TC was excellent and needs to be protected before a muscle injury (but we have experts in this area now rather than message board physio assessments).
Ramsay is a playmaker from our defence and alongside Small, can alter the momentum of a game in a flick.
LJ and Macca are looking as solid as we will see at this level. Edwards too although I'd like to see him show some more adventure at times.
Coventry was lucky to avoid a yellow yesterday. Played well and a good strike. Berry fluffing chance after chance was frustrating. An up and coming Luke Berry would be perfect and feel we may have him in Gilbert.
Godden grafted and put a solid shift in. Leaburn's last two cameos have seen him 'angry' and put himself about.
I was hyper critical of Jones earlier in the season but that interview shows the manager that I want for the club. All credit to him. Should we fall just short I am now confident that given the tools he’s going to progress next season. Brilliant.
Anyone else think it's painful watching Chuks these days when he comes on?
He was only on for a few minutes. And is often trying too hard. But our record while he is on the pitch is outstanding and his strength scares opponents. I still want him on that pitch if we’re 1-0 down more than anyone else.
I feel quite the opposite : I don’t think he’s worth his place on the bench. If you think he ’scares’ opponents then he really is just a circus act (my 14 year old son was laughing at him yesterday).
He did cause a bit of a nuisance last night (and against Peterborough)but that’s as far as it goes. Take any fit, determined, heavyweight striker from tier seven upwards, and tell him to cause a nuisance and you’d get the same result. Aneke doesn’t actually do anything with the ball; he just bullies but with no tangible effect on the game.
Ahadme makes it pretty clear that this isn't the case. While Aneke may not be the player he was a few years ago, he still makes an impact when he's on the pitch.
If we're trailing 1-0 with five minutes to go, I'd much rather see Aneke coming off the bench than the strikers most other League One clubs (aside from Birmingham) have to offer from their benches.
Charlton version March 2025 played Charlton version Sep-Nov 2024 aka Barnsley. Charlton version March 2025 won 1-0 with a competent all around performance. Charlton version Sep-Nov 2024 aka Barnsley showed glimpses of a side that could develop into Charlton version March 2025 but have probably left it too late for this season.
Fantastic result. Beating Barsnley is never an easy task, they always play decent football in spells, and they've always got a handful of decent players in their side. Season defining type of win.
I never really felt too worried, but I did feel we were lacking something at times. So many wasted opportunities in the box where someone couldn't get a foot in, or chances where we should have scored, think Berry had a decent chance (again) and Leaburn should have buried TC's excellent pass.
It's been an amazing few months now, too soon to say where we will land, but it's far more enjoyable than what was going on last season. This is the best we have looked in this league since we were relegated. This team is the real deal now.

TC is developing into a very good player. If he can work on his finishing, he won't be in league1 much longer. His work rates are amazing and he must be a joy to manage.
Small, Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey, and Edwards. There can't be a better back 5 than that in the league. So comfortable watching that combination. A massive credit to Gillesphey, believe he's been a victim of being in a shit team previously. He clearly can handle himself when he has assured, quality players around him. 3 goals in 5 games and 3 very, very important goals. 2 match winners and an equaliser. Fair play to him.
Finally the Covered End. Such a good atmosphere. If all stands could make that type of effort, the ground would be electric. Some decent support all around towards the end, but that stand well done.
Just the one mainly, Chuks. I think even Gassan could do more, he looked absolutely useless. No pace, no control and doesn't even bully people anymore.
It's actually quite sad to see but he has no business even being on the bench in such an important run in, we need players who are going to come on and allows us to continue with the press like TC and Godden do, can't have a complete passenger.
Sorry if that's harsh (he will probably score the winner vs Stockport now)
Fitness levels throughout the team are amazing. Coventry looked stronger in the last five minutes than he did in the first five. The team is building up momentum, and when Charlton teams do that they invariably feature in a Wembley play off. Agree with some comments about seeing more of Gilbert (if only for his corner taking), and less of TC who was brilliant throughout but looked tired in mind and body near the end and needs to be nurtured. Jones and Macca are looking very solid (apart from that weird ducking by Jones in the first half). First time I have seen a free kick go under a wall for a goal since the days of Mark Kinsella!

err? how many Charltons what now?
Two. The current/actual Charlton; and the Barnsley version of our team earlier in the season where we often looked good and might do something but were often easily contained, frustrated and outplayed…and didn’t win
Bit of an odd one for me. Got on the wrong branch of the northern line, which meant much stress and missing the beginning of the game. So at least missed the tykes dominant start. But wasnt feeling 100% and even Macca ‘goal machine’ Gillesphey’s goal didn’t change things. My watch told me my heart was racing (145bpm) and I sadly couldn’t put that down to the excitement of the match.
Lasted til about 70 mins but had to head home.
Heart rate was going from 38-165bpm, so saw the doc this morning. Atrial fibrillation confirmed after ECG at the GPs. Now on blood thinners and beta blockers. Life’s a b*tch sometimes. 😩 I imagine there’ll be quite a few Lifers with similar issues, so I’m in good company! Thought they all played well in the second half especially. Listened to the commentary on Charlton TV after leaving, and the final whistle blew while I was at London Bridge Station. Another big three points, which again takes some of the pressure off for the Stockport game.
Was going to PM you but seems I can’t. Just experienced similar to you. I bought a new smartwatch and discovered my heart rate was around 145bpm. Had an ECG at the GP and been confirmed as having an atrial flutter. Was already on blood thinners but the dose has been doubled and I’m going on beta blockers too. Have had an echocardiogram too to ensure nothing else going on. If after six weeks the tablets have not brought it down they will shock my heart back into rhythm. Scary times. Difference is I had no symptoms at all and my consultant said that ultimately the new watch may have saved my life.
Glad your getting treatment and hopefully we will both be fully sorted very soon.
I’d drink to that Large, but I’m not sure I’m supposed to.
Good luck with your treatment.
I’m thinking of upgrading my Fitbit watch to a smartwatch.
Well, it wasn't the greatest game to watch, and we never looked completely convincing, but it was a very important win and a great battling performance.
I am not sure what was wrong with our midfield in the first half, but Barnsley bossed it. We were giving them too much space and time and seemed slow to press. It improved second half, but still nowhere near our best performance.
I really think it is time to rest Luke Berry. He seems to have lost his shooting boots, and he gets knocked off the ball much too easily. The close range header miss against Orient was a shocker. Time for Alex Gilbert to be given a start I think.
I think we will need to play better than that against Stockport if we want to get anything from the game, but I think we will up our game for what is another crucial game.
Coventry was a one man midfield in the first half. Berry probably does need a rest but i was watching Docherty and just couldn't see how he was contributing. Their player who did the dribble and shot waltzed past him so easily and he hardly ever shows for the ball. There were a few times he was available for a pass and Ramsey ignored him. Not surprised as he nearly always goes backwards into safety. Again, not surprised as if he tries to retain the ball and go forward he normally loses it and he's never capable of an instant forward pass as it isn't til he's got the ball that he thinks what he's going to do with it. Sorry if that is a bit scathing and of course, its only my opinion but he's an incredibly limited player, despite his apparent upturn in form lately. I'd have Anderson back in Saturday in the box to box role.
I was woken at 6.30 this morning by my young lad who couldn't sleep any more, so excited was he at the fact we are in the play off spots and wanting me to confirm we would be in then end of season.
He was 6 when we went to Wembley and had our last decent season so this is all a bit new to him. I am just hoping he is able to focus on school through his day dreaming of promotion! 🤣
People were saying Chuks didn't do anything against Orient but his hold up play was instrumental in the move that led to the corner for the first goal. I am usually quite vocal about who should be playing or not when we are doing badly, but the run we have been on surely we just go along with what the manager decides. Yes, he can still get things wrong but results are showing that overall he is getting the big calls right.

Hi @JamesSeed I was diagnosed with AF in 2014. I've been on various tablets since, but they all do the same job. I was discharged by my cardiologist in Aug 23, i just take a few tabs now, they've reduced over the years, you can lead a normal life, just need to be sensible, everything in moderation.

Guys, I've pasted a reply in the "Medication?" thread. 👍

This team has some real steel about it now, and the credit must go to NJ. Everyone has stepped up. Ok, maybe Chuks is the exception, but maybe that's his fragility catching up with him? But there seems to be a great team spirit.
Personally pleased that Macca has had such a good run. I wasn't convinced in him either, but I didn't agree with the level of some of the criticism.
However, I particularly liked this one at the time, after he'd suffered a head injury and the physio came on:
"Physio: "Macca... Do you know where you are, who you are?"
Macca: "Yeah I'm a Footballer for Charlton"
Physio: "Yup, this is serious, lets get him off, he's clearly concussed".
Points accrued in the last 12 games, Wrexham = 20, Wycombe Wanderers = 20, Charlton Athletic = 28. If that current form continued, Wycombe would be promoted on goal difference, so it's imperative that we beat them 15-0 at their place.

The Lad cannot run, he cannot score. Sorry to say, he is not good enough.
That's the truth , it's not personal , he is not even Charlton Park level.
I have to say he looked like someone who didn't seem to know what to when he had the ball, Miles played him in and the hash he made of it was embarrassing, the best thing he is offering is holding the ball up. I still think he will be on the bench for the rest of the season just for his ability to add strength to the forward line.

Yeah, I felt bad for him in that moment. He looked like someone learning to ice skate.
I was sitting quite close to Nathan Jones for this one and it was fascinating to get a bit of a window into how he operates on the touchline. Of course we can all seen him jump up and down from wherever you're sitting in the ground - but sitting up close you get to hear just how angry he is!
What made me laugh was how often he screamed "Fuck Off" at any misplaced pass or when someone is slightly out of position. I remember a moment in the first half where we put a ball in to the back post and Small would have had a pretty simple finish if he made the run - Jones instantly turned round to the analyst and quite aggressively shouted at him to clip that and spent the next minute ranting and raving about how often he tells Small to make that run.
You can really see how he's created a pressure cooker at the training ground, never letting levels drop and constantly trying to improve every part of the team. We're extremely lucky to have him.
Some of the Aneke comments are very over the top - he came on and made a decent impact at Orient just a few days ago! His contributions are always going to be limited but I'd rather have him than Ahadme or whoever
Just the one mainly, Chuks. I think even Gassan could do more, he looked absolutely useless. No pace, no control and doesn't even bully people anymore.

I think Jones’ rationale is tiring defenders must look at a 6’4 battering ram like Chuks coming on at 75mins and think ‘ffs not him’. Agree though, it looks like the end of his career is near.
It would be fantastic if he helped us to promotion with these cameos then bowed out.

Its great to see him doing well though, especially as he's not really put a foot wrong since that Blackpool error
Other Footballers could really have a downturn in form after something like that

Plenty of positive contributions in there.
