I enjoyed Stockport more than I was expecting, the place was a lot nicer than many of the other towns around Manchester, and had quite an interesting layout in the centre with the low level underbank and the higher streets above it. I visited the air raid shelters on Saturday morning before the game.
Ref was absolute shite, but I’m he was at least fairly consistently shite for both sides and didn’t significantly favour one or the other. I all for letting games flow and encouraging players to stay in their feet by not giving too many soft free kicks, but once the two defences realised anything from shirt pulling to strangulation was acceptable it was extremely difficult for either set of forwards to really get on top. The two midfields cancelled each other out and that was that. The wind didn’t help either but I honestly think a slightly less whistle-shy ref might have helped make a bit more of a game too.
It’s exactly the kind of game that shows why defences win you promotions and attacks win you games. One of the keys to success over a season is, especially in games like this one, if you can’t win then don’t lose. In recent seasons we’d have definitely lost that match but our determined, resilient, and organised defence secured us a point and prevented a rival from gaining anything on us. Results elsewhere could’ve been worse for us too so it wasn’t a bad day overall.
Having seen the photos of the Stockport railway viaduct, a few important facts for those railway Addicks. The first is that it is the biggest brick structure in Europe, as stated, with 13 million bricks. Second, and more interesting, is that every train that passes though Stockport has to stop. This is because the local council, who paid for the viaduct, stipulated in the legistation, that if they built the viaduct, to bring more money into Stockport, then every train has to stop at the station, to allow passengers to revel in the delights of Stockport!
Sometimes you get a better feeling about the result after a sleep or two. I am thinking that it was a better result for us than for them but we need to take advantage by winning tomorrow. That won't be easy but it is doable for us. I'd like to see us on the front foot.
We get on top of teams normally with our high press they nullified that by going long. Just one of those games where both teams cancelled each other out. It was a must not lose game and we didn’t. Now onto the next must win game tomorrow!

A bit like Birmingham did in the first half. Now I know a bit better being a Charlton fan but I'll say it anyway. Our fixtures don't look hard until our 3rd and 2nd from last ones, but these are against teams looking at second. If we can get ourself in a position where we are close when we get to them, they are the teams you want to play.
My slight worry is that we are ok, but not as convincing away as we are at the Valley. We have to improve that. I don't see any reason why we can't looking at the players we have but we still have to get another 5% from the lads in the away games I think. This applies to the games leading up to Wrexham and Wycombe. Those games will look after themselves. The key games are Crawley, Posh, Mansfield and Cambridge.
If Macca had scored that chance I'd have probably dished out a 10 in player marks just on the sheer vibes of it. Ah well
That was so frustrating, he worked the space so well, but just couldn't keep it on target, that would have been great in front of the travelling Addicks...
It was a really tough chance though, the sort of header where you have to flick in onwards and hope it goes in, rather than one where you can bullet it in (like the 2 last Saturday)

Agree with this but i think Jones the messiah has a cunning plan. Come the fixtures that really matter he will have gilbert play more and teams wont have worked out how to deal with his crossing thereby increasing our goal tally.
First vlog in a few months, no Fred (camera cousin) and tbh, I was feeling quite anxious. Not that that's a cry for help or anything, just explaining some of the cuts and why it may not feel too engaging compared to some better vlogs. But I wanted to get the ball rolling again. Think it's because it's been a a few months I was feeling a bit unsure.
Anyway, here it is, I'll be doing them again now for the rest of the season, life just got in the way a tad.

Enjoyed that mate - loved the old blokes sat on the wall - turgid game of football, but everyone you spoke with called it right - tight game - personally, the atmosphere element (for us) was hampered by an open away end
Lovely weather though !!!
Great away day yesterday, interrupted by 90’ish minutes of rubbish football
On to Crawley - I’m there with my best mate on Tuesday - beat them, well what a run of results since Brum away …….
Cheers Gents.
LFH- I also loved the old blokes sitting down on the wall, seemed quite old school, imagine the tenants of the property weren't too happy though haha.
Regarding the weather, my mate has been on my case about mentioning it so much 😂 apparently I'm a very simple bloke who is fascinated by sunlight. I'll now the opposite when it rains haha.
I think it's the lack of drummer as well. Some fans will knock the drummer, but it encourages fans to start singing. We certainly miss him when he's not there and it must be some effort lugging the thing around.
Excellent vlog Braziliance, well pleased you're back keep up the excellent work, looking forward to your Crawley one coming up. Personally I love to hear the Charlton chanting if you can get some of that in will be well pleased!

So do I mate, wasn't much opportunity to get that though 😂 hopefully tomorrow

Last season in 12 away games I endured, I saw ZERO clean sheets, which really shows how soft we were at the back last season.
