Where were all of the 1000+ Charlton fans attending this one at Bolton and Burton away this season?
Sorry you’ve missed out Eric, particularly as it seems there’s a bug with your account. On a wider point, sadly with these smaller allocations and bigger demand we’ll see increasing numbers of previous away travellers being usurped by Valley Gold :-(Also a bit hacked off with those who keep knocking VG. I’ve been a season ticket holder since Selhurst days, including the 10 year (when there was no guarantee we’d be around) and VG since the start. Priority ranking was always one of the benefits for supporting the club in this way. It’s been a long term commitment, but I suspect the club have to weigh up the potential loss of backers should that priority be removed.
Anyway…hopefully won’t be an issue with the bigger allocation at most grounds in the Championship. Although I dread to think of the carnage on here when we’re discussing Bournemouth & Brentford allocations the season after!!! 😉4 -

By my calculations, I should have 575 points:
Every home game from Cheltenham Town last season
Season ticket this season
Four away games last season
7 cup games this season (minus one as I was sat with the Southend fans)
17 away league games this season (minus one as I was sat with the Orient fans)
That should have made me eligible for phase 6 and would have allowed me to just about get a ticket. However, I had to wait for phase 9 and these tickets didn't even reach phase 7.1 -

Some of us having been doing it non stop our whole lives
It's not a competition you know. I havn't been to an away game all season but during the seven seasons in the PL I missed one, for example. One day you will stop going too.1 -

A solution to the problem when there is a small away allocation might be give a VG member 150 Loyalty points a season & if we are to get promoted reintroduce the' Away Season Ticket ' for the people who intend to attend all or nearly every away game similar to the scheme ran by our friends from SE16, see belowTo be able to purchase an Away Season Ticket, you will also need to be a Home Season Ticket Holder. A registration fee of £25 will apply.
As an Away Season Ticket Holder you will benefit from:Every away League and Cup ticket guaranteed (booking fees apply)
No hassle with making payments, simply register your details and we'll process the payment and send your ticket so you're ready for the next big match
Cancellation
Away Season Ticket Holders can cancel their tickets up to three times per season.

Unfortunately, I had to end over ten years without missing a single men's first team game at The Valley for a family emergency that saw me miss half the season.
None of that counts for anything as only the current and previous season count towards loyalty points.2 -

I've always felt VG should come in just above the 460 points level enough to supplement having a season ticket and maybe a handful of aways, somewhere around the 500 points mark would always feel about right to me. It should never be a 100% guarantee or you may as well just re-brand it as an away tickets membership scheme.3 -

Without pre-empting Eric's answer it does seem to me that there is no time between the announcement of tickets going on sale and them actually going on sale. If you were away for a couple of days and not going online you could easily miss out even if eligible.
Some of us, even those who travel to away games regularly fail to see these announcements until clive puts them up on here.
SO many needless emails sent out by the club re season tickets etc to those who are already have them yet NO notification directly regarding the imminent sale of away match tickets !
Surely the already addickted should be the first to know about these dates especially when sales are on a points priority basis !
Is there any wonder that loyal fans miss out time after time?
I'm totally in favour of someone pushing the right buttons !

It looks as though Cambridge are not maximising their revenue as a football club with a stadium that holds about 8k people. They have reallocated the old south stand, which held 1,500 away fans to be a family stand for home fans and now have a maximum away capacity of 1036. This, on the basis of £20 a ticket, is probably costing them £9500 per game before food and drink sales. They will recoup some of that with away fans buying in the home end, but with their performance this season, are unlikely to sell out their home seats. Being in the relegation slots they should try and maximise revenue.
As someone who lives 14 miles from the abbey stadium and who cant get a ticket in the away end, it saddens me to watch local teams shoot themselves in the foot.3 -

I would agree with a previous poster though that it's ridiculous how short the notice is when tickets go on sale. There's no reason why the ticket sale can't be announced a couple of days before the process starts, rather than on the same day.3 -

Can’t see the request for more being successful0

I do think the tickets are always a bit short notice, there should be an announcement that they're going to be relased, that way people who genuinely 'deserve' them have enough adequate time to buy theirs.
No complaints with the points system for me, Valley Gold really helps the club, I am of the view there should be a high points system first, then valley gold and a 2nd tier of points, and then the points without, but it's never going to be perfect.
For context I have 810 points, yet the first wave was Valley Gold and 640 points. Seems a bit imbalanced that over 170 points more (which is approx 400+ quid if you use away tickets as measurements) is outweighed by Valley Gold.
Luckily I don't have to worry about that too much yet, and when we do I'll probably just sign up to Valley Gold.
Again though, no system is perfect and I can see why they do the incentive.0 -
I also do think for games that are going to be obvious sell outs like Wrexham, Leyton Orient, Cambridge etc, should be 1 per person for at least 3 of the phases unless the +1 is a child, helper or is of some necessity.
Me buying a ticket for one of my cousins for instance who have been avoiding long away days this season is taking the mick a bit.
I of course will though if they want one as they're family and have no chance otherwise.
I would like them to look into that as at a fair few aways I've seen people who don't appear to be Charlton fans based on their interactions, and I'm a proper noise snob and want every Charlton fan making a bit of racket.6 -

Someone with say 600 points can buy 2 tickets and take Someone with him who has no points.
Someone like me with 550 points then misses out.
Don't seem right.4 -

I don't go to as many games as I'd like these days for various reasons. I'll admit I signed up to Valley Gold largely because of the benefit of getting higher priority for games where there are fewer tickets or higher demand. Ultimately there's never going to be an ideal way of doing it as long as there are more people who want to go than there are tickets I guess0
