    Northampton you've been SUNK!!

I enjoy opening all the post-match threads purely to see this GIF 🤣
Does anyone know what ship that is?
well this one is the Iowa and its from the same class so its one of four
Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri, Wisconsin- the last was still active in 1992 and all four are preserved if you wanna go see, but they don't do this anymore as it tends to rattle too many windows.
    Thanks Hal.👍

Could it be that NJ comments were aimed at certain internal people as well?

Unfortunately wasnt there yesterday due to work commitment's, but spoke to a mate after the game and first thing he said was how bad the ref was.

Just read a good majority of the players marks and amazed to see marks for the ref by a good majority of contributors as 6 and 7 and words like he was ok,

Was he bad or was he good.

    He was bad.
If we never see him again it will be too soon.

Pwr…… is it just me or is it we don’t seem at our best or comfortable against teams that press high?
And their midfield seemed a bit more mobile and anticipatory at picking up 2nd and loose balls?
Up to 4th though so can’t be bad….. good substitutions which really helped so well done NJ, CF and whoever.

Hard fought win, but we won so.... Yeah that's all that matters.

McIntyre is such a strange player, was looking alright up until the volleyball moment but that brain fart left him shot to pieces.

Nice to see Aneke effecting games again after looking like a sad sack charity case in his first 10 or so games back.

Godden, what a finisher. Proper classy forward.

Desperate for second as I couldn't take watching that let alone the nerves of playoff's, plus, wouldn't it be lovely to destroy the wanxam love in.

I wonder sometimes if people forget that playing to the same intensity and levels each week is near on impossible.

Their midfield was better than ours for long periods yesterday. They clicked really well and we were more disjointed and patchy than usual. It happens. It doesn’t suddenly mean they have a better midfield than us. It means we didn’t play very well in the middle third on that particular day.

Way too much overanalysing going on. We found a way to win. Monday will be a totally different game

I had no idea Tariq Fosu played for them until he was substituted. He was an excellent player for us not that long ago yet doesn’t seem to register any form of hate / like association when our paths crossed. It’s like he never played for us
I liked him when he was with us, partly because my mates son trained him in the close seasons and when he was without a club. Had a tough time since leaving us. Was part of Brentfords promotion push but never got a look in in the Prem. Took a while getting a contract before Northampton signed him.

Only Aneke left from his time at the Valley and they both had a hug and chat at full time which was nice to see.
As did Nolan, can see Aneke ending up there next season

McIntyre error for the penalty was shocking. Errors like that in a playoff game could blow our season. He just can’t be relied on right now, and we missed Gillesphey.
To be fair, he did have the opposition player who was jumping for the ball alongside him pushing down on his shoulder. Those fouls go unseen but they are fouls. You can’t beat another player to a header if he’s using you as leverage for his own jump.

It was handball but was it really voluntary? I’m not so sure. If you’re being pushed down on one side then doesn’t the opposite arm needs to go up to compensate?

I find it funny that 6 months ago I was defending Gillesphey, and now there’s a new over criticised player for whom Gillesphey is wanted as a replacement.

McIntyre isn’t as good as Gillesphey on the ball, so we struggled to play out when Northampton were pressing us yesterday
I feel that to balance my last post I’d like to point out that I absolutely agree with this. Gillesphey is a great passer of the ball. In fact I consider him like the TAA of League One.

That was great fun Dad and I loved it when the crowd were singing and seemed happy when Charlton scored goals but why did the old people start moaning during large parts of that match ?

Out of curiosity, was your 5 year old named after Lyle Taylor?

On the Fosu/Aneke hug thing, didn’t Fosu train with us to get fit before he signed for Northampton?

He was so bad that I felt impelled to go on the match thread and say so several times, using profane language. It was that or smash something in the house.

Being practical, if not exactly reasonable; we have to accept that refs often don't give things because they haven't seen things. They need more help for that, be it the other officials being more proactive, or more tech. Yep,  some VFR, just not the way it is used in the PL.

But cards are another matter. By definition the ref has seen something, and had a chance to make a decision. He booked Coventry in the 12th minute for a pretty feeble attempt to hold back a player, near the centre circle, with plenty of his defenders behind him. The Northampton player got free but then dived over. I mean, real pantomime stuff, with the ref 5 yards away. Coventry then has to play 88 minutes plus while on a yellow, which is a significant disadvantage for his game. I think there should be the possibility to appeal yellow cards, maybe max  3 per season. That'll make some of them think more carefully. Especially if the evaluation system (do we even know how that works currently?) is overhauled. Refs should be paid a bit more per game, but some of that extra should be bonus money. If a card is overturned, deduction from bonus money. Also the assessor should mark for "consistency", i.e. one player gets a yellow, others do to from both sides for a similar offence. That addresses the main complaint from fans (and Brownie btw, favourite complaint of his. BTW, more ex-players as assessors. As for the time-keeping variations, the modern tech-enabled solutions are staring the game in the face. Don't tell me there isn't the money for all of these things.

The booking for Ramsay for time-wasting seemed literally seconds after he blew to restart play.

While it was harsh, I could understand the booking for Coventry, as referees will (correctly) always penalise you more for pulling back a player, rather than a mistimed tackle when you are at least trying to get the ball. And while it wasn't a super dangerous break, it was a break and Northampton could have created something dangerous.

BUT in the second half a Northampton player did exactly the same thing in front of the Curbs stand, in very similar circumstances, with a Charlton player trying to run forward, and wasn't booked. The lack of consistency was poor.

Nah all good... the missus suggested going away camping for a few days over Easter I thought as a compromise it would be better to miss yesterday's match that Mondays  :D

    We all make mistakes 🤦🏻‍♂️

Just like the Newcastle fan who had the massive tattoo of Andy Cole a week before he was sold to man utd🤷🏻‍♂️

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and having a 'Lyle Taylor Baby' tattoo with his pink hair cut seemed a good idea at the time.
I have to wear a snood in all weathers when I'm out and about. Not great when I go swimming !

Was going to post this. I think the foul was on TC around the half way line.

I dont generally mention the ref & never mark them on the ratings thread (apart from one we had recently who was the worst of the worst) but this one was a 3 out of 10.

When will we get the ones that Wrexham get ?

I wondered why he wasn't at least booked, too. It wasn't an unlucky flailing arm, it was a deliberate handball.

He should have been booked. The double jeopardy rule change means you aren’t sent off for a genuine attempt to play the ball which prevents a goal scoring opportunity and results in a penalty, as I understand it. It doesn’t seem to reference handball one way or the other.

I can’t see how it wasn’t a goal scoring opportunity, which appears to have been the ref’s get-out.

'Too easy to be self righteous today'.... then proceeds to bang on and be self righteous. Good manager and done unbelievable since Crawley but a absolute knobhead very frequently with his comments.

One day it'll click that most people were not pissed off with who he signed, but who he sold. I know it's all in the past, but he's made these points himself after wins on multiple occasions.

He should have been sent off. He wasn’t making a genuine attempt to play the ball. He was in the six yard box, had an opponent jumping to try and head the ball home so was obviously denying a goal scoring opportunity. For the ref to tell Nolan that wasn’t the case was obviously wrong. We got away with one there.

He has come good after deserved criticism earlier in the season. On that basis, I'm glad we have him at the moment, but he is a very difficult individual to warm to.
