MATCH THREAD/PREVIEW : Wycombe Wanderers V Charlton Athletic : Easter Mon 21st April 2025 : KO 15:00

Posted up a bit earlier today as no preview...so lets discuss...

So, A very good morning/Afternoon to you all, what are we gonna do today...correct answer WIN!!!...

Today we travel up to Adams Park for the  much awaited and huge encounter with Wycombe Wanderers, with a real chance to move to within two points of second spot, dependent of course on other results going our way, what's to say Blackpool can't inflict a defeat on Wrexham 🤷‍♂️...

Ashley Maynard-Brewer returned to Nathan Jones' matchday squad on Friday, while the in-form Macaulay Gillesphey missed Friday's victory due to muscle stiffness, let's hope everything has loosened up before todays game then eh, Miles Leaburn remains sidelined for the Addicks.

The hosts, who will be without Shamal George and Dan Harvie, are one point above third-placed Wrexham 😂, and have won their last three fixtures on the spin without conceding, including a 2-0 win at Bolton Wanderers on Good Friday courtesy of second-half strikes from Caleb Taylor and Luke Leahy, so an interesting encounter...

We've locked horns on 14 previous occasions winning eight, the Chairboys four and the remaining two meetings ending all square, we ran out 2-1 victors in the reverse fixture at The Valley in December thanks to Miles Leaburn's brilliant brace...

The Addicks who will be wearing their yellow away kit in Buckinghamshire. will be cheered on by another sold-out away end after tickets were snapped up at great speed by our wonderful travelling Addicks...

Here we go then...

Team news...

Macaulay Gillesphey will return to the Charlton line-up for this afternoon’s game against Wycombe Wanderers.

The centre-half missed Friday’s win over Northampton Town with muscle stiffness and replaces Tom McIntyre, while Danny Hylton returns to the substitutes bench in place of Gassan Ahadme.

Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones and Gillesphey will start in a back three in front of goalkeeper Will Mannion.

Thierry Small and Josh Edwards will operate as wing-backs. Conor Coventry, Luke Berry, who scored on Good Friday, and captain Greg Docherty will make up a midfield three.

Matty Godden, who scored his 18th goal of the season in the Addicks' win over Northampton, once again partners Tyreece Campbell up front.

Hylton is joined on the substitutes bench by  Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Tennai Watson, Karoy Anderson, Alex Gilbert, Chuks Aneke and Micah Mbick.

Charlton: Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Small, Coventry, Berry, Docherty (c), Edwards; Godden, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Watson, Anderson, Gilbert, Hylton, Aneke, Mbick

  • Really have no idea about the outcome today. More twists and turns to deal with. Not in our own hands but need to win three massive games starting today. UTA
  • No pressure on us as playoffs secured which is more than we could have hope for in December. Play our game and we will get the 3 points I’m confident that Blackpool will beat Wrexham so the league could look very different tonight

  • Chance of rain around 3pm so best Charlton fans play safe to avoid it and aim to get in the ground by about 2.30 and start making some noise whilst the two teams are doing their pre-match warm up on the pitch.
  • A draw is no good to either team, so expect a grandstand finish if teams are level after 80 minutes or so...

Hopefully Macca is back (for Macca), and Dixon on he bench if as feared Chuks is out for the season.

    COYA!
  • Charlton 20/1 to finish in top 2 today as of this morning…

  • our rivals for 2nd spot have some tricky games left this season, as do we t b h .. no complacency please while the outside chance of auto promotion is still alive .. League One - Scores & Fixtures - Football - BBC Sport

REALLY looking forward to this game, I reckon both teams will be going for it .. full strength line-up for us please
  • I’m pretty relaxed about it to be fair. Have confidence in the boss/team that we can win, and will. If we don’t then at least we have the play offs to fall back on which I never imagined possible for a lot of the season. Think it’ll start off very cagey but could all end a bit frantic. 2-1 to the Charlton boys.
  • This is one of the First “finals” until the end of the season, playoffs incluides. So we have to play as much focused as possible.
Team has show that they can be competitivos, so now is time to prove it again!!
    Up the Addicks!
Saludos desde Madrid as usual 😉💪🏻😎

We'll be fine today, for some reason I am more relaxed than normal for todays game, and can see us getting the three points to keep up the pressure on those above us, now all we need is Blackpool and Huddersfield to do their bit as we need that as well with Bloody Wrexham and Stockpot...🤞
  • Anxious about this one, and hoping the result will be positive especially with the pyschological advantage it will bring.
Strangely conflicted as I'd love another Wembley win as it's shared with 50,000 fellow Addicks, rather than 24,000 at the Valley (vs Burton) if we get automatic.

They look like they’ve probably sold out in the home ends, there wasn’t that many left as at 5pm Saturday according to their website and they’ve asked their fans to paint  the place blue so basically it looks nicely set for the Charlton team and 1800 Addicks to burst their balloons. 0-2 to Charlton, Godden again and TC.

  • Feeling tense for the first time before a game in what feels like an age. Absolutely massive game. Can see it being tight and scrappy with a late goal winner, no idea who gets it though

  • Draw for me and get this second place nonsense out of our heads.
Time to hunker down for the playoffs.
  • We beat them 2-1 in December, I'll go for another 2-1 win to us today.
  • A must win.
  • Nothing to lose, we're the outsiders. Hopefully we've just had our game looking nervous. They've just got themselves back into the top 2, all in their hands, they should be the nervous ones.

Let's get into them, put the pressure on, and see how they handle it. Don't expect there to be much in it but both teams need the win, so could be end to end late on if it's level.

Play the high press with Anderson instead of Berry to start. We can't let our midfield be bullied as they were on Saturday. Get in their faces and stay there. If we need to, bring on Chuks and Mbick near the end to terrify their defence, as we did with Chuks and Leaburn at Orient. Simple game really. Oh, and let TC and Small swap sides occasionally to confuse their full backs.

I'd rather lose this game than draw it. Fuck Wrexham
No doubt we will be going for a winner if it’s level with 10-15 mins left… reckon NJ still wants 2nd.

No one has a better defensive record at home than Wycombe (only 11 conceded, four less than us) so it’s going to be very tough for us to score today.

We will need to keep it tight at the back ourselves and steal away with a one nil victory.
