From where I stood 5 rows back behind and just to the right of our r/hand post, I knew Luke's shot was going in as soon as he hit it, what I didn't appreciate was just how hard he hit it .. Karoy's goal, debatably not just the icing on a very sweet n tasty cake, but also i m o, the best of the four aesthetically .. great cross from Thierry bisecting their central defenders, a perfectly timed run inro the box and a towering header. I've said on here previously that I reckon Karoy could develop into a decent striker, I hope that's put to the test some day. One for the future, their 20, Cameron Humphreys on loan from Ipswich is one to watch next season whoever he's playing for
I was part of the holy triumvirate of Charlton Life royalty where I sat, myself ,AFKA and Nicholas , 3 wise old stooges with their families jumping up and down in complete delirium, also thanks to Nicholas for moving around so little shit could see the game. good day out but it’s never enough , we needed another goal to close the GD on Wycombe 🤪 my heart won’t be able to take the play offs please let us go up . I can’t stand any more league one guffness
saw Chuks waiting in car park and third choice keeper walking away from the ground after the game .
Oohaah are you the silver haired fella who used to sit in the NW in the prem days with a fella called Matt, electrician?
Flint House by the station did a decent job as a pre match venue, but then it hits you how far from the station the ground is. After side stepping the scagheads begging for £2, we picked up a 7-seater from the station and it come to £20 to the ground. Arranged a pick up for after so sorted.
Game was unreal, I keep expecting things to go wrong but this team over the last few months are so resilient and just never let you down. Jones goal was out of nowhere then Berry’s screamer had a wow factor to it. What a step up week he has had.
Godden’s goal was one of those mistakes you see every week on the EFL highlights show and you think ‘why do we never get those mistakes?’, and Karoy’s goal was the icing on the cake and a proper limbs moment. So nice to have a couple of goals in front of the travelling fans and to be able to enjoy the last 20 mins of a game.
Fair play to Wycombe, they are playing at or above their ceiling. Their ground’s position, road structure and facilities is just not designed to cope with crowds or higher level football. The away end holds over 1,800 yet its one urinal can only manage 6 people, and the bottleneck of that road after is just unworkable. Took our taxi over half hour to get from the gate just to the roundabout, and we had both Chuks and Ahadme walk past us making better progress. Chuks was politely stopping for selfies with those who asked.
Get back to the station and even the platform is a mile away. Fast train back was hot, packed and poodled slower than Gemma Collins attempting the marathon. No one seemed bothered but everyone seemed drained and knackered when back at Marylebone.
Saw dozens of people from this forum yesterday and all round It was just a great day. Been lucky enough to see all 4 of the recent away wins and I could quite easily get used to this!
Playing them again yesterday in that non league ground and it being such a massive game such a stark reminder of how ridiculous our status is, when compared with our fans on Friday and today.
Have felt until yesterday like automatic would be an impossible bonus, 100-1 shot; after yesterday’s result I will now be gutted assuming we don’t get it… feels like that result and performance alone was a promotion winning one… but we are still a long way from that dream

I think you must have been stood very near me. Was also 5 rows back and to the right of our post. As you say was right behind it and always looked like it was flying in.

we might have made contact and didn't know .. I sure hugged and embraced a few 'strangers' yesterday .. b t w I am a VERY handsome, modest old geezer, was wearing a blue raincoat and a 'paper boy' cap .. sitting next to me was a little lady (Lin) who has bright red hair (natural of course), wearing a red jacket, next to her was her hubby and my sidekick Keith, white hair and wearing a blue windcheater.. say hello should we 'meet' again
Dodds comes across as a PE teacher who is screwing up Matt Bloomfield’s work. His team were well beaten and he knows it. But whatever. Good luck to him. I just hope we get out of this poxy division asap.
I’m still walking on air after yesterday - our support and singing ALL MATCH LONG - was incredible - I quite simply am so proud my late Dad gave me no choice but to support Charlton Athletic - yeah, lots of crud - but when we play like yesterday, and I’m there, going mental with my best mate - fucking hell, orgasmic
My mates and I off to Wrexham this coming w/e - staying overnight on Saturday night - however on 8.30am train out of London (thanks Sky 🙄) - going for curry post match
And you know what - we are better than Wrexham - and we will win
Dad is up in The Valley Memorial Garden, looking down, and he will be nodding his head and saying ‘yes, we have a proper Charlton Athletic team here, go on lads, just fucking do it’

To be fair it was when he took TCs place a few games ago.
I've been supporting this club for about 60 years and I've seen us play at around 90 different grounds. Plenty of great days out along with Plenty of not so great days out. Yesterday's performance considering what was at stake was right up there with the best of them.
We could almost start a new thread on this.
Yesterday's game would definitely be the best I’ve seen in this division.
The 4-3s away at Villa and Newcastle are the two immediate ones that spring to mind as the very best.

Not sure if already posted, but some very complimentary comments on the Wycombe forum about us. Just a sample:
"Yesterday we had our limitations fully exposed by a quality football team that were better than us in all aspects of the game. They showed us the standard we need to reach if we are to progress to, and survive in the Championship."
" I don’t think anything else can be said other than we lost to a team that set up very well against us. They were better than us in every aspect and their fans were magnificent. From the moment that Kone got smashed by Jones, you just knew how the game would pan out. They won absolutely everything. That’s what I meant when I said “I don’t think we played that badly”, I just think they were better, smarter, stronger, quicker, fitter and more clinical in every way. You don’t have to be “up against the ropes” to lose a match. We never were - yet we got knocked out by a tactical masterclass."
"Charlton by far and away the best team to come to AP. If we’re both in the play offs we have no hope.
6 points needed now. I really think Charlton beat Wrexham on Saturday, so 6 points would still do it. Tiny glimmer of hope."
"Charlton are going up automatically if they play that way again against Wrexham.
Wrexham aren’t that great as a team, but they do have some great players. Charlton are a fantastic team."
Funny enough that moment reminded me of Lloyd's namesake's 'reducer' on Steve McMahon early in the 88 cup final.
I'm sure Lloyd's effort wasn't as cold bloodily planned out as Vinnie's, but the effect was very similar. Neither McMahon or Kone seemed to fancy it afterwards.

Correct: We missed Tyreece big time in that first half against Lincoln and Karoy struggled and was rightly subbed at HT. Anderson isn't a wide forward or a striker, he's a midfielder who had an impressive sub performance for the injured Berry when Wycombe were on the ropes and scored a header from a peach of a cross from Small.

Maybe some of these should have a word with their deadbeat manager, and put him straight on a few things...
Haven't listened to the interview admittedly but given we may play them in the playoffs soon he was never going to come out after a game and say they were second best and we played excellently etc. always going to be excuses.

Article in Football League World (also on Charlton OS) says we are only 11th for paying wages in League 1.
It isn't on our OS at all and the FLW "article" is based off nothing but speculation from a website that guesses wages, it has Cambridge above us who have one of the smallest budgets in the league!
Some people like to complain about 'hoofball'. But big factors in our success are, Jones's 40 yard headers out of defence, Edwards's 30 yard throws and Gillesphey's 70 yard lateral crosses. Between them they shift defence to attack very quickly.
As a isolated tactic in specific circumstances ie counter attack this is true. As general "modus operandi "- it relies on accuracy pace and muscle of attacking players. However it's more likely a get out of trouble "no thought, little/low skill option". If it's so good why isn't it a frequent tactic in the premier league where some of the best players in the world play? Because it's easy to defend and gives away posession. It works in L1 as players aren't so good.
Our tactics are being very successful in L1. Some teams have more ambitious aims- but they carry more risk and need greater skill to carry them out. We put the ball up in the air as more skilful teams are negated- their football on the grass is bypassed. If they try and bring the ball down and control it- thats a risk as at this level mis-control is common and can be cause of loss of the ball.
Look at the defence- "foot through the ball"-reduces the risk of a misplaced pass to midfield. Lloyd Jones has flourished without the responsibility of bringing the ball down and passing in pressure situations. (Remember misplaced passes last season)
Its the role of midfield/attack to. win the ball and keep it in the attacking third.
Godden has been feeding off scraps the season. He has the ability to score more has been limited by the few chances we create as we frequently lose the ball .
If he had been in a footballing team -say Birmingham or Bolton (in previous seasons) he would have had more goal opportunities and scored more.
So we are a hoof ball team being successful through being ultra competitive and physical fast and strong. Foot through the ball- few goals conceded avoiding unnecessary mistakes. Goals "for" OK- due to talented strikers particularly Godden ( and Leaburn when fit) feeding off scraps.
My concerns are - we will be outplayed by more skilful teams . Whether we meet them this season or next (in the Championship?) thats when we will struggle. -will we be able to attract skilful players in the next transfer window. We will need another major rebuild if we change our "style", if we don't we have another short stay . - will we be able to attract good academy talent (if they watch the first team play)
In short we are heading up a blind alley.A false dawn. Sure a transfer window flush with money and good player selection could change that.

I think this summer we should be in a great place to pick up quality youth players falling out of PL clubs.
show them the improvements in Small, Ramsey, Coventry, Campbell and Edwards in one season under NJ. Show them the opportunities we give young players to thrive and rebuild careers.
Show them the team spirit. Show them the ones that have left before and gone on to great things. It adds up to a pretty compelling argument imo.
Maybe we won’t pick up the small tricky players but Jones won’t want them anyway.

We all know that the skill/performance gaps between the divisions grows wider every season, promoted clubs are always likely to go straight down again. No-one knows how a terrific (say) L1 plyer will get on in the Championship until after he plays a few games there. IF (when) promoted we will need strengthening, i m o, especially in midfield and attack. Unfortunately Matt Godden and Luke Berry aren't getting any younger and we can't rely on Dixon and Mbick to take up that slack immediately. Our defence is solid and I reckon can do a job in the Champ. Also, it's a fairly young set. Will Mannion has improved outta sight as a reliable keeper. (Playing behind a rock solid, consistent defence always makes a keeper's job 'easier')
As said, investment in the team and careful recruitment will be vital to retain our hard fought Champ spot. MONEY and how it's spent as ever will be absolutely vital. Staying up for the first season is imperative. Charlton Athletic is a BIG club and given shrewd ownership and management I reckon we will thrive over the coming seasons
If we manage to get promoted this year I’m confident that we will strengthen to be able to hold our own in the championship. Regardless of what some might say our ownership is far from skint and they ain’t about to get relegated due to lack of investment their model is based on turning our club around and getting a ROI they won’t be doing that by not investing
