Play off first leg

Controversial opinion maybe... but I think we are better off having the first leg at home. We have shown on a couple of occasions recently that we can win 3 or 4 nil at home. I worry about a performance like today, Peterboro or Rotherham. I feel more confident about us holding a lead than pulling one back... Just me?

how did i get my wish? i'm asking if we are better off getting a big win or at least a lead to hold onto rather than risking a potential insurmountable defeceit.

If we win next Saturday, and Wycombe or Stockport win, we'll get 4th

I think this result has put 3rd beyond us
  • Stevenage second leg was at home...
    When did we play Stevenage?
Sorry I meant Doncaster, my heads all in a spin today...

So if we win next week we will probably be away in the first leg to Wycombe or Stockport whichever one of them loses. If they draw we will be home to Wycombe. So to avoid Wycombe, they have to win but I'm not bothered about home or away first, I'd prefer to play Wycombe and that looks the most likely outcome to me. We won't be playing Leyton Orient now in the semi final.

Don’t care, just hope it’s Wycombe and not Stockport
And not just because Wycombe are out of form. The Stockport home fans generated a great atmosphere, whereas the Wycombe ones are armchair supporters. A second leg there won't be at all hostile
  • i maintain, we are better at holding a lead than pulling one back. I bet NJ wants a home first leg

     Without doubt

We've only won twice I believe from a losing position. Bolton and Orient.

Well crucially we have the better head to head record vs Wycombe.

so if we win 5-0 next week and Wycombe draw 0-0. We would finish with the same number of goals and points BUT we would finish 4th and get the 2nd leg at home.

    like I said. Crucial.  :D

    Both 90 minute games though.
  • If Stockport v Wycombe is a draw then we will end up 5th & will play Wycombe at home 1st leg, no matter what we do.

If we win, and there is a winner in the above match, then we will end up 4th & play the loser of that match and will be away 1st leg.

Not strictly true, a 5-0 win against Burton and we will finish 4th if there’s a draw in the other game
  • Don’t think the Stockport v Wycombe game ends in a draw anyway

Win by 6 or 7 and we finish 3rd with a draw in the other game. Not a prediction, and it aint happening, but it's in the range of what's mathematically possible.
