2024-2025 average L1 home attendance

I saw this chart, assuming it is accurate, that average league attendance isn’t that great though obviously a lot better than most in the division. Saturday’s game will clearly push our average over 15k but it will still mean that the average number of empty seats for league matches has been 12k over the season. Whichever division we are in next season the aim has got to be to challenge for promotion.

  • Some of us remember being in the third tier when the average home gate would have been 5,000-6,000. Well that's what the "official" crowd was anyway!
  • That's horrendous from Wycombe!
  • Bolton have already sold 14,000 season tickets for next season, i doubt we have sold 5,000 st's at the moment.

  • Just checked and the average for those chaps down the road isn’t that great either, and probably worse when you consider the away support in the Championship would have been a lot higher than we’ve seen this season in L1.

  • Without that dip last autumn, we would be a lot higher
  • What’s our average without the Wrexham game?
  • How much would actually match attendance be I wonder, without ST absences and comps. Obviously comps is known by the club but ST absence can only be speculated on. Certainly during the seasons down time in Autumn there appeared a disparity between announced attendance and subjective view from thr ground.
  • Palace’s figures not that impressive either given that most of their ‘support’ will be just there for the PL opposition. Obviously the ground capacity puts a cap on how many they could get but I didn’t realise there are only two grounds smaller than theirs in the PL

  • The financial people ought to realise more than they do that part of the Charlton Athletic business you can actually grow is bums on seats.
In recent years there has been some movement in that direction, and maybe it is the little things like clean toilets, ease of access, decent and affordable refreshments, travel to matches that can be improved.
I sometimes think that the effort to sell lounges and boxes might come at the expense of selling ordinary seats.
Of course football success sells better than anything else.

Not checked the maths but, presumably anything over 22k on Saturday will mean Charlton will average a higher attendance for the season despite being in a lower division and fewer away fans, as it should be

  • That Bolton average is very impressive.

Do they do very cheap tickets?

     This season, season ticket prices.

    Early bird

    Phase Two
  • Without that dip last autumn, we would be a lot higher
but the true average attendance is much lower ... many games mid season with probably 4,000 less than published in actual attendance
  • Can't remember the exact figure but Bradford in L2 get around 25K. Thats an achievement

  • Bradford have been selling very cheap tickets recently, ground is packed and looks great

Pushing for promotion and probably think having lots of fans backing them will help. Clearly not an unsporting tactic we would ever stoop to…

Bradford have been selling cheap tickets for years, and have been stuck in L2 for years...
Nearly got ‘NFT’ backing, been changing their manager a bit too frequently but now seem to have got the right one who has got them into the play offs…sounds familiar

As a stat geek, can I ask where this is from. Because some sites, like Football Web Pages, often use different metrics. FWP or asking AI for example, include all home matches to calculate a home average rather than league average, so that includes cup games attended by one man and his dog. This looks like it only includes league matches. Thanks.

It's also Bradford. What else is there to do?

Top of the tifo league though.

    Ok got the number wrong.
    1) nearly double next best club
    2) bigger attendances than us
    3) Bigger attendances than most of L1
  • In fairness, Bradford is a one-club city, with a population of just under 550,000 at the last census. Leeds is 15 miles away and Huddersfield is also in West Yorkshire, but they have a good catchment area.

As someone observed, they’ve had a cheap ticket policy for many years and that’s undoubtedly helped keep the gates up during their lengthy stay in League 2.
  • So we are averaging more home fans than Millwall when they are on the brink of the prem and we have only been good for half a season 👍

Anything over 23K by my calculation.
  • Our figures are meaningless as they are simply not accurate and padded with freebies. Whether all other clubs do the same I don’t know, but I doubt to the extent of difference between our announced figures and attending and purchasing spectators.
All clubs will have some freebies. And I think all clubs include season ticket holders who don't turn up, so I don't think our numbers are that distorted when compared to other clubs.
    I think they are.

What would you guess the real average is, closer to 11-12k?
