Bradford are 299 for an adult, so not exactly giving them away like people are making out. Very cheap though, admittedly and I'd buy one today if we had the same pricing.
I don't think it would double and you'd have lots of frequent stay awayers but you'd up the crowds a fair bit I think with much lower pricing - benefit from more wider stuff around sales at ground, beers club shop etc and just more fan engagement
I do think the mindset of having a season ticket is very significant in getting people in more often, real crowds up etc - i know a lot of people who go occasionally but have bought - but I think if they could buy a season ticket for the equivalent of 8-10 home matchday tickets they'd probably get one for the sake of it and then be more likely to come out on a tuesday night when it's "free" Vs just decide to give it a miss and watch on telly in the warm
but ultimately it's all, always, so heavily based on the team / performance.. we could have 20,000 STs but if we're playing like we were in november there'd still be 8,000 at crawley home on a tuesday night... if we're playing well and winning then probably we'd be getting genuine 16,000 - 20,000 crowds every week even at L1 level - and regardless of pricing or no of STs sold
The last thing any club (particularly London clubs) wants now is a stadium plan sold out to ST holders. Most of the additional spend comes from tourists and occasional visitors.

It's only about £50 more expensive in the covered end tbf...and you're not in Bradford
Edit i think Bradford did a promotion years ago and sold adult season tickets for £100 or something. I guess the prices have gone up, but seems like the fans have remained.

Is isn't always about money. Are there 24,000 Charlton fans willing to commit to at least 13 visits to the Valley (to make any ST worthwhile) for League One football? History says not.

Id happily pay that 345 for the upper, just have zero desire to be in the lower stand.
I would be very cautious about assuming the benefit from more people spending on other things outweighs the ticket revenue. Much of the revenue from “other” is eaten up by cost of sales (and VAT). The point about ticket revenue is that after VAT there is almost no extra cost.
Can we charge £30 a ticket and give away beer and merch for free then ?
That would be nuts as you’d massively increase the overall cost of sale without price as a limitation.

Charlton’s zone 3 tickets and family stand are currently on sale at £325 adult (for renewals) or £345 for new ST holders. Also it’s London and one (two?) divisions higher.
At least people can get a ST. At Liverpool there's people who've been on their waiting list for 25 years and they haven't even reopened the list to add new people since 2011.

Great if you want to bring a child to every game, but not for the average punter. Id end up having to upgrade my seat 20 times if I got my 6 year old a ticket.

That's such an insane stat.
Have we ever had a waiting list? And if so how long was it?

We sold everything we were able to sell in 1998/99 and pretty much until the Covered End was rebuilt.
Our figures are meaningless as they are simply not accurate and padded with freebies. Whether all other clubs do the same I don’t know, but I doubt to the extent of difference between our announced figures and attending and purchasing spectators.
All clubs will have some freebies. And I think all clubs include season ticket holders who don't turn up, so I don't think our numbers are that distorted when compared to other clubs.
I think they are.
Yes they are. We wouldn’t give away that many comps because we just don’t have that many spare seats. Even if we’re only getting 15k home fans at a game there will only be a spare couple of thousand seats in the home ends tops. Probably less.
As mentioned Charlton would have over 12k empty home seats this season and are well known to give out a hell of a lot of comps because of it. (Wasn’t there a load of freebies sitting on a bar in a local pub somewhere a couple of seasons ago? )
We had 11 sell outs last season. We haven’t done quite as well this season but we still not in a position to give out thousands of comps every game.
What about all the empty seats in the parts of the ground that are never open? Millwall must be losing so much money from not selling these. I know these are in the away stand, but why build a stadium with seats that can't be sold?

They do allow some clubs to use the lower tier. Millwall’s highest gate this season was 18,385 v Sunderland. A home sell-out, plus 3,000 Sunderland fans. Which is still not all the seats, but there is some segregation at most grounds tbf. I think the top tier allows an allocation of 2,000 odd, with most bringing less than that. So not losing money as such, only for the likes of Leeds maybe, as they would bring 4,000, but are restricted to 2,000.
Sorry to butt in @MillwallFan - but surrounded by Lions fans in my family (other half, maternal granddad, uncles & cousins) 😭
I know they’ve had a few ‘sell-outs’ of 16-17,000, which is a bit stupid, as you say.

I think the recent surge in form and results and gates tells you that the ‘product’ is more important than the price -some people won’t attend even if they’ve bought a season ticket if the football is rubbish - same with free or cheap tickets

Yeah most clubs get the lower tier these days. Obviously the likes of Leeds won’t but I could even see that changing over the next few seasons.

Be good if we are allowed back in lower tier when we play you next season 😀
Just checked and the average for those chaps down the road isn’t that great either, and probably worse when you consider the away support in the Championship would have been a lot higher than we’ve seen this season in L1.
Not checked the maths but, presumably anything over 22k on Saturday will mean Charlton will average a higher attendance for the season despite being in a lower division and fewer away fans, as it should be

Anything over 23K by my calculation.
Upper north, north west and lower west getting greyed/faded out.
£299 in Bradford vs just renewed for £325 in London at a club in the league above. I don’t think the price of tickets is the main issue. It’s more that we have stagnated in League One and up until recently it’s been pretty dire to watch.
I agree over £600 for highest price ticket is crazy but no one has to pay that as there are plenty of other seats to choose from.
Simplifying to say £500 cap for most expensive season ticket and £25 per match ticket for anywhere in the ground might help but you’d like to think that someone at the club models these things to project revenue implications.

They no doubt do but modelling for a half empty stadium on most match days surely must be telling the senior management, Board and owners that the model they are using just might need tweaking

If our 325 seats were popular, they wouldn't be 325
