Doc is one of our better players and wasn't wanted by Hull who narrowly avoided relegation.
Gillesphey couldn't get a game at Plymouth who were relegated.
I think Edwards, Jones, Ramsey, Coventry, Small and TC all could step up. Doc & Godden would be fine squad players. Leaburn it's unclear. We would need 10-15 new players on top which would be a sea change of investment for our owners whilst also ensuring we passed FFP rules.
But unfair to tarnish him with the record of a team he doesn’t play for anymore isn’t it?
Docherty made 40 apps there when they finished 19th, 14 points clear of relegation. And then 35 apps the following season when they finished 15th. Reckon we would all take that for the next couple of years.
He only played 15 times when they finished 7th in 23/24. But he played zero times for their 24/25 team that just avoided getting relegated that you reference.
Finished 19th and 15th when he played for them and I assume they considered him to be a weaker player so let him go.
Sure, can't blame him for their relegation, but that is not the track record of a player I would want as a key player in our squad if we are promoted. We would need better imo.

And I wouldn't classify Docherty as one of our better players anyway.
Jones, TC, Godden, Ramsay, Coventry, Edwards would all be ahead of him, and probably Small and Gillesphey too.
I was talking to a Wrexham fan today and asked him how many players he thought they need to make the step up to the championship he thought 4 which surprised me as I think a lot more. if we get promoted how many of our current squad can be competitive? I think maybe 7
Wrexham need a lot more than 4. Rodriguez and Fletcher are ancient. Very shrewd signings to get them out of League 1 but not gonna cut it in the Championship anymore.
They built a squad in the National League that was good enough to be competitive in League 1. They've tweaked it since then. Putting aside all the irritating showbiz stuff, it's a very well run club. But we've played to our potential since Christmas and have been better than them. If we'd found our feet a month earlier we'd be going up in second.
We will struggle next year if we go up, as I don't think we'll be throwing money at it. And I hope someone's warned Wrexham's owners about the financial differences between League 1 in the Championship, because they'll struggle as well without major investment. I don't see many in their squad that I think world make a big difference for us next year.
Having said that, and possibly contradicting myself a bit, if you look at the sides that finished between 15th and 21st in the Championship this year, you don't need to spend millions to be in an even fight with them to stay out of the bottom three.
Wrexham are already a financial powerhouse and that’s not just the money the owners are pouring into the club. Their financial results last year (League 2) had them at £39m in sponsorship alone, with the likes of TikTok, Aviatior Gin and United Airlines. That was four times more than the nearest League 1 club. Then they have the money from the Disney+ doc, I’m sure some healthy merch sales and a match day revenue with no freebie tickets. Financially, they will be able to compete in the Championship. Goes to show how well we did to keep up with them with a much reduced budget and only half a season of form.
I think it's a bit pointless to ask about how big the step up is when you can't take into account the effect of momentum, a positive environment, consistency and atmosphere. Look at Luton as an example. They blasted their way up the leagues thanks in no small part to Nathan Jones having a very clear and consistent way of playing, and he got them up the table in the Championship before Rob Edwards completed the job. Momentum, togetherness and consistency meant they got into the Premier League with players like Tom Lockyer and Alfie Doughty who not long before had been relegated from the Championship, Dan Potts, Jordan Clark, Pelly Mpanzu who travelled up from non-league with them and is now at Rotherham in L1and the great Allan Campbell. Those are not top players as we recently learned in some cases, but everything was in place for them to succeed beyond their means. After a season of getting battered in the Premier League though a lot of those same players, plus a number of apparently better players have just finished 22nd in the Championship and been relegated to L1. There's a lot of players in that team who could end up playing in a different division every year for 4 years for Luton because even though it's the same players the momentum swing has been so wild it's meant that it's been the defining factor more than the players' talent a lot of the time. Wrexham have paid big money to upgrade their squad in places but it's still Parky getting players like O'Connell, Dobson and Elliot Lee to a 92 point season in L1. We even saw it with our team in the Championship before the injuries with Phillips, Purrington, Leko, Pratley and Williams looking like gods until the fun wore off, the injuries stalled the momentum and the players reverted to their level.
Players can really shock you with their ability to step up off the back of a positive season. It's the season after that where you really want to worry about an overhaul.

What Wexham need to do as well as strengthening their squad, is to upgrade the Racecourse Ground, which right now lacks good basic facilities like catering and toilets
So if we stay down, there's gonna be a mass exodus of players, but if we go up, no ones good enough....
I think if we stay down we risk losing some of the 6-8 that people have identified on here as being good enough to perform in the Championship if we go up. So all seems consistent.

I'm quite confident we'll keep hold of the majority... We've already turned down offers for Jones / Campbell / Leaburn in recent windows if rumours are to believed
We seem to be a club that thankfully don't piss ourselves with excitement when we hear another club say: "We want to buy..." anymore.
May was the exception, but that seems to have been part of a bigger picture, where he potentially didn't fit into the style of play that Nathan wanted to adopt. Only one I'm truly resigned to losing if we don't go up is Small - Any others, and we'll just have to wait and see what happens, Campbell is possibly one we might lose if the right offer comes in, but if we lose Small as well I can see Jones digging his heels in.
But Campbell being sold could also be the sort of sale in League One that copies the Jenkinson departure, and works out better for us in the long term.

It's FLW so pinch of salt needed but they're saying Preston, Blackburn, Millwall, Derby and Oxford are all interested in Small. It's believable and you can see why he'd go, Derby would be good for him location wise
Doc, Golden and berry dropped to league one because they weren’t good enough to start in the championship. Nice role players at that level but not starters. Neither mannion or Gillephrey are good enough to start. That’s five starters with striker and attacking midfield being the most critical. Whether we have the budget to do that is going to be partly dependent on whether we can offload ahadme, Taylor. What were we really paying chuks(thanks JJ). It also wouldn’t surprise me if one of the elder statesman on big wages might move on. A lot is going to depend on how much we spend on a striker as we know how expensive that position is in fees and wages

Who are the Allyn family? Wrexham's new US investors profiled after big announcement
