Will We Win the Playoffs?

  • The bookies have Stockport as slight favourites above us and I think that's about right. I would certainly fancy us more against Orient at Wembley if we both get there. We aren't there yet though and I'm sure Wycombe will prove tougher opponents than some are predicting, but on current form we should get through.
  • Everytime Ali backs us to win, we have a shocker. Delighted he's gone for Stockport.
Unfortunately he backed us to get past Wycombe..!

    ...reached the playoffs.

If this team can do that, this team can do anything.
Incredible that in that 9 game spell between mid September and late November where we only won one game, that win was against…

    111 point runaway champions Birmingham.

  • We have only choked three times since December, against Birmingham, Wrexham and Blackpool (Peterboro we threw away)
On that basis the chances of this team choking twice in a row now against Wycombe are slim.
  • Or in vision, the L1 section.

Both of them are really confident that we'll beat Wycombe. Yes there are no easy games, blah blah, but avoiding Stockport AND Orient in the semis is a massive bonus.
  • In terms of the Wembley crowd, it would be better to play Stockport, rather than Orient, as you imagine that lots of once a year Orient supporters (who actually support West Ham or Spurs) will fill their section, whereas Stockport won't have thousands of casuals coming down from Manchester.
  • Do Stockport still have a hooligan element?
  • If it's us and Orient in the final the Jubilee Line will be a nightmare.

We won't win without Berry, Small and Jones
Ok? At least 2 of them rested for the final game of the season, Berry is the one that hasn't trained for a few days but we have a week to get him back up to speed
Jones was limping when he walked up to get his award on Saturday.
Where were you sitting to see that happening? Because he wasn't limping at all as he walked up to collect trophy and walked back to the group.
    in the west stand upper.
  • 25% chance at the moment
  • Wasn't too sure what thread to put this on but here is NJ's rallying cry post Burton

    Did they ever?
  • I hope we play in red on Sunday
  • Well that's jnxed it, what between braziliance and elfsborg we may as well all book vacation for the 25th as we either won't be there or will lose 3-0

Ah mate don't worry I've talked us down a fair bit and said we have had our luck at Wembley etc.

Elfsborg has been taking the piss, can't believe how sure he is we will beat Wycombe, fair play 😂
  • Every other side is going to play the underdog card against us, especially in the final, where both Stockport and Orient were in the National League not so long ago.

"The pressure is on Charlton, as the ex Premier League club, not going up would be a massive failure for them etc"

I know my football, we will glide past Wycombe.

Arghh, a pox be upon you if we lose
  • Some of the Pundits have the Final as Stockport vs. Charlton with Stockport going on to win it. What do they know! It's all on the day and the whole day can get to teams. I almost think form goes out the window as it is knockout football. If we make it I'll be flying back as I did in 2019. COYR!

We can certainly do it, and us v orient in the final would be a great atmosphere.

I think we could probably even finish the away leg a goal down and overhaul it at the valley tbh.  A draw or better and I think the odds of not going forward drop dramatically.

My biggest fear is getting tonked 6-0 or something, rendering the home leg moot.
  • 2 things that are weird. Orient having a bigger pitch than Wembley and the fact that there isn’t just a standard size!

Lots of the “pundits” when covering League One are awful, essentially journalists who spend 99% of their life focused on the (top of the) Premier League and when making playoff predictions will just be looking at how the league table finished.

I’ll probably be completely wrong, but I actually have a feeling Orient might beat Stockport.
  • I went on some podcast thing today in Manchester, it was a play-off style cast, a fan from each team in the play-offs. Something GreeneKing have been doing.

Let me tell you, the Wycombe fan has 0 confidence they'll get past us. He thinks it will be the highest aggregate score in play-off history.

The Stockport fan very modest and thinks we will win the play-offs, says he can already see our name on the Wembley board saying congratulations, is hoping Wycombe beat us.

The Orient fan was also quite modest but believes its Stockports to win, and think if we play Orient, they owe us one for the fouls on their keeper at their place leading to our goals. Can't say I remember any fouls if I'm honest, but she was nice enough.

Stockport fan also said a lot of the people he speaks with at games thinks it's ours to win/we are the team to avoid.

Between that confidence, us winning at Wembley twice already and having a good record against 2 of the 3 of them. It makes me worry we won't do it, law of averages etc 😂
Our of interest what is the highest?

League One couple of seasons ago must be up there. Sheffield Wednesday Peterborough was 6-5 over two legs.

According to Grok it's Crawley Town Vs Milton Keynes.

Crawley won 3-0 at home and then 5-1 away. 8-1 aggregate and a 7 goal swing.

I can't see that being topped anytime soon
