How does a lucky loser get into the second round? Surely once the tournament starts, that's it?0

Norrie out in straight sets. Radacanu comfortable winner in straight sets.1

Draper wins fairly comfortably against world no. 46.6-1 6-42

Fearnely v Berrettini on now. Jake narrowly lost the first set but a break up in the 2nd
Very entertaining tennis. I can see Jake getting into the top 50 and maybe a few places better in the not too distant future. Pretty quick rise up the rankings so far
'7 Oct 2024 — Fearnley's climb from 646th to 98th in the world rankings in 2024 is the fifth biggest annual rise into the top 100 since 2000, according to ATP statistics.'
Current ranking 570 -
Fearnley serves for the set at 5-3. Drops two set points and then gets broken to the delight of the Italian crowd. Back on serve at 5-4.0
-
Lost the resulting tie break 7-0. Crumbled in the face of his opponent and a raucous home crowd.0

HIs rise to 52 (as he will be on Monday) since last year has been very quick, so maybe still getting used to the intensity of the matches against top 50 opponents?1 -
Great win by Raducanu after a close first set when she was serving for the set 5 -7 6 -0 6-1 despite a shocking first serve percentage3

With Fritz losing his first match of the tournament, Draper is creeping up on that world no. 4 spot.
165 points behind Fritz currently. Will reduce that to 115 points if he beats world no. 92 Kopriva today.2 -

I agree.
Since Boulter rose to the mid 20's, her form has been poor and now down to the 40's whereas Raducanu is looking really competitive and fit; long may it last but Coco Gauff may be a round too far in Rome.
Emma has a chance if Coco's serve is off.2 -
Draper wins 6-4 6-3. Will play world no. 83 Moutet in the last 16.
Raducanu’s last 16 opponent is Coco Gauff.

I watched some of the match and it was a good quality clay court game.0 -

Raducanu was beaten by Gauff 6-1 6-2.
If Draper beats Moutet tomorrow, he will reduce the deficit to world no. 4 Fritz to only 15 points.0 -
Moutet wins the first set against Draper 6-10

Murray and Djokovic end their partnership. I wonder what Murray will do next, there are plenty of talented British players now if he is interested.2

Draper wins 1-6 6-4 6-3 against a tricky opponent.
He will play a QF against the winner of Alcaraz and Khachanov, currently 5-5 in a deciding set.2 -

Didn't see Draper win yesterday but sounded like he was bamboozled in the 1st set but found a way to win during the next two sets.
Alcaraz, favourite to win on Clay but after a narrow 7-5 win in the 3rd set his game isn't at it's peak at the moment.
Saw most of Raducanu's match against Gauff and felt Emma won plenty of points but couldn't convert it into games. Had plenty of game points on her own and Coco serve but couldn't win the big points unfortunately.1 -

Talking of game time - good to see Raducanu has entered Stuttgart as she wants more game time - hopefully that means getting the new fitness coach means she is not only fitter but also more robust as worrying less about too much match time will lead to more injuries.
Agree about the match against Gauff too. Clearly second best but it was closer than the score suggests. She's definitely making progress, particularly when clay is not her surface, so hopefully will get into the top 30 idc. Is top 30 or even better this year if things carry on?1 -
Around the top 30 and her body stays fit will be good progress for Emma this season.
Staying in the top 5 for Jack and picking his schedule carefully will be good progress for Draper. Mentally and physically he goes through the ringer most matches. In comparison Sinner can win more matches with less strain on his body, or so it seems. Being an ex Skier obviously has helped Sinner* reach his optimum fitness.
Definitely would like to see Jack improve his Wimbledon record and get to the 2nd week at least.
Semi final should be doable if fit and healthy.
Five set matches with a day in-between has been a problem so some early round 3 set wins will be paramount for Draper to reach the business end of Slams.
* I want to believe him !1 -
