Loads of things get said when things are going badly. I’d bet a lot of those comments were made within 15 minutes of the final whistle after another woeful performance at the time. Personally, I’ve tried to stay optimistic with all our managers – including Appleton – maybe with the exception of Atkins. That said, I had it in for Jonesy a couple of times back then too.
I wonder if Nathan was being interfered with past couple of weeks? Whatever it was that caused that dip in effort and form, let's hope we kick on now... But we've seen all too many false dawns.
Hardly a turnaround is it, one win after three defeats. Let’s take yesterday’s tactics, energy, and teamwork into the next three or four games and win them.
Thats a turnaround
It's absolutely a turnaround just based on the level of performance. Whether we can sustain it or was it just a one off, that really is down to the next few games.
What do we reckon folks
He's proving to be no better than the last 5 or six managers. In fact i'd take Holden back in a heartbeat.
Would you still take Holden back?
Proper weird trawling back through the thread to dig out other posters when we were playing some of the worst football known to man and losing to shite like Crawley @ home when those sorts of comments were posted. As Chunes said, you didn’t want Appleton sacked ffs.
I honestly don't care that much how it looks given some of the weird grief I got around the same time for backing him.
Sorry to the people who's posts I picked out - it wasn't personal.
Plenty were more than happy to @ Callum in the middle of match threads when we conceded or call him deluded for not agreeing that this is the worst Charlton team in history back in December. It got quite nasty at times, I think he can have this
It was a bit cringe and at one stage you had to remind yourself it was the semi-finals, rather than the final! As long as we win games, am absolutely fine.
What was the rant about when the ball went out for a throw in the West stand?

Crawley was bad, but it was that trophy game against (ironically) Orient that did it for me. It wasn't our full side of course but we still had the likes of Small, Godden, Docherty, Leaburn etc playing that night and they absolutely murdered us, had something like 25 shots.
I couldn't see a way back after that, we were truly dire. 6 months is a long time in football!!
He's is genuinely passionate about his work, our club and our team. Whilst he may express that in a manner dissimilar to others, he has started something really quite special. Supporting Charlton has often been a hard slog over the last decade or more.
Last night was one of the most special moments I have experienced supporting Charlton, the buzz around the ground reminded me of the better times under Curbs. We all had one purpose last night, to support our team and help then achieve.
The fact they reacted to that expectation, the fact they fed of the positivity of the occasion. They could have got weighed down by the expectation , but they didn't. The team found a way, and it gives us a chance of the Championship.
I can't wait for the final, it will be a fantastic occasion.
The turnaround he has achieved is quite astonishing. I was told that NJ teams are better in the second half of the season by a few friendly Luton fans, but I was not quite ready for this. The players are mentally and physically stronger than I have seen in a Charlton team for a very long while, when other teams start to struggle the lads bring it up a notch. When the opposition lose their concentration in the box we are there ready to grab the opportunity.
I wouldn't want to play us never mind in a final with all the support we will bring.
That is really interesting to hear from the Wycombe fan , sounds like Dodds might be another of these head coach types that is a very good coach at age group level or as a first team coach but just lacks that certain something to be a No1. Agree that his touchline demeanour was very Appleton!
He's an intense, highly strung character who takes the responsibilities of the job extremely seriously. I think he has great confidence in his own abilities and when he knows he's right about something, he takes exception when he then gets criticized and sometimes even mocked (eg Alfie May/Godden transaction). Some call that being over sensitive, others would describe it as him being brutally honest, and straight talking ! I have no problem with him singing his own praises when he gets proved to have been correct about something. I, like many others, was cursing his decision to substitute Small last night, but it turned out to be a great decision, and a very courageous decision by Jones. I don't think there was any playing to the camera's last night, I think it was an outpouring of emotion and pent up tension.

The rant was in Injury time and the fan threw the ball back so quickly he lost his shit. That fan was the 12th man and didn’t do their job properly . Could have nicked the ball, thrown it further back in the stand etc

I did think that, but didn't appreciate seeing a fan of ours being shouted at quite wildly.
