  • Just discovered Poker Face on Sky. Same director as Knives Out. Only watched a couple, but enjoying it so far.
I’ve just started it as well - read a glowing review of the new series, so thought I’d start it. First couple of episodes have got me hooked.
  • Not enjoying the 2nd series of The Last of Us anywhere near as much as the 1st.
  • Not enjoying the 2nd series of The Last of Us anywhere near as much as the 1st.

I personally prefer season 2. Thought season 1 had some extremely boring episodes (for example Left Behind).
Thoroughly enjoyed every single episode of season 2.

There's parts I like (usually bits with the zombies), but I'm just not invested in the characters very much. Dina's a good actress but I just can't get on board with this season as much.
  • They will need to stretch it out, I thought they did a really good job with the first game and the first season. This one will need several seasons if they are going to stay true to the source material and there is no reason why they wouldn't given how strong it is.

The Abby stuff is worth a season on its own. I sound like I'm picking on her but I think they have got the casting really wrong with Bella Ramsay as Ellie. She is a good actor and I lover her in game of thrones but I cannot see her as Ellie.

I think they've taken the attitude too far with her on the show. Game Ellie is stubborn, show Ellie is just a brat. Also doesn't help that she always looks like she's struggling to take a shit.

My missus was trying to describe Bella Ramsey to me, before we'd started watching TLOU (I hadn't seen Game of Thrones, so she was new to me). She settled on "she's got a face and body like a jelly baby". Now I've seen exactly what she meant. Uncanny.

Edit: Managed to get TLOU wrong first time. F'ks sake.
  • Just working my way through Benidorm again (insomnia is a bugger!). Nonsense of course but well observed comedy and a stellar cast.
  • Finished Andor last night, really good.

Have binged Andor over the last couple of weeks, and just seen the final episode.

Agree with the comments above, that's Star Wars... and that is going to be very tough for Star Wars to beat

They'll no doubt try, they'll no doubt fail drastically. Its also a very good example of there being nothing wrong with strong female leads (Bix, Dedra, Maarva, Kleya, Val, Mothma were all excellent). Like everything else, it just needs good writing to go with it!!
  • Mobland back to its best this week. Brilliant ending to the episode!

It was beyond brilliant. In terms of the wider storytelling set in that world it showed you have so much scope to tell solid, deep stories, to plant seeds and see the pay off. Also the lack of jedis and lighsavres shows how important those dudes are to have around.

The comparison with WW2 era Maxi Germany was palpable especially with planet France, what happened to Partagas, the empires war of obliteration.

Truly epic and I'm really grateful to the people running it for how it wasn't rushed or toshed. And whoever said about strong female leads is spot on. Nobody pays attention to what gender strong characters are or what they look like when the character is strong, the story is strong and it all comes together. Nothing felt wasted at all. As a good objective review my missus loved it and she would draw the curtains if star wars was going on in the back garden.

Also that absolute house banger from episode 3. Solid

  • I am loving this season of TLOU, think every episode of this season has been very good or ar least good.

I think the criticism of Bella Ramsay is so harsh, seems a really sweet woman off camera and I think she's doing well.

I've now played a bit of the game and if anything, Pedro Pascal as Joel is the poor casting choice. In the game he's pure Southern, can barely hear it in the show. Although, he's a good actor so he's suiting the role anyway.

I'm loving Ellie and Dinas chemistry.

What Andor has also done is added to Rogue One as a film which was already absolutely brilliant. It was done so well the way they started to add in characters and references from the film for the continuity.

Every single person nailed their roles in Andor too. Not a wasted character at all.

Gilroy has set the bar impossibly high for whoever has the next Star Wars project.
  • Andor was unreal, best Star Wars show hands down, and it rolled right into Rogue One so well. Watched that again at the weekend following the show and loved it just as much as the first time I saw it. The show has added extra depth to the characters, especially Cassian of course.

Really feels like that was peak Star Wars that we'll never surpass right now.

I was thinking about this. Its like a patchwork quilt is how I'm thinking about the star wars stuff now.

The big, almost cartoonish excitement is definitely the mandalorian and without that and the success of that none of the other stuff gets off the ground. And that show has given some great moments that even as a bit of a plastic fan I am fully there for. Then you have the more speculative stuff like skeleton crew and the acolyte that give moments but I think are really there for the hardcore fans.

Then you have Andor, that has made use of material from the animated series, from novels, from comics as well as the films and led brilliantly into the film Rogue one. It has stuff for the 45 year fans but also didn't make things hard for those who are just along for the ride. The acting was really good, the writing was watertight and the action scenes were great. I'm glad this series is getting a lot of critical attention and really hope the people who run things and own the intellectual property are sensible about doing this with other stuff. They really ballsed up what could have been amazing with the acolyte by being provocative about it being woke. Fuck sake Andor, how many strong female characters did that have? Vel, Cintha Bix, Mon, Dedra, Kleya all top tier. Boba Fett was mostly crap and was only saved by some cameos the essentially turning into a bonus season of the madalorian

Hopefully thats set the bar now anyway, the films I get have to be snappy and quick but in this golden age of TV this level of detail and writing has to be the bar
