Not bothered, he had his moments but he was a left footer playing on the right. We can sign someone more suited to that role and he was never going to dislodge Edwards
Sat on that for a week, never ITK but was told by two different people that Preston were offering Thierry between 10-11k a week to sign him and that he already agreed to it in the last week.
I didn't want to say incase they were wrong, but once I read all the Preston fans say about their offer, and how likely he was to accept it, all the dots joined up, and is why I was saying we aren't paying the going rate, specifically for him.
Apparently we couldn't get near what they were offering, or at least we weren't willing to match it. Had we offered Thierry what they did, he would have stayed. It was just about money from what I have heard.
I'm gutted personally as he has so much resale value, he fit in with the team, and he was a good player for us.
He’s a strange one. Bags of talent and easy to forget he’s only 20 but was very frustrating to watch, the best and worst player on the pitch every 5 mins
Fuck him. Doesn't want to be part of the journey and is far too inconsistent for the championship anyway. I will enjoy Preston's relegation even more when he's out of favour up there by January
Disappointed in Thierry himself as well really. Yes I know footballers have every right to try and make as much dough as they want but I thought he may have a bit more loyal to the club that gave him a chance when his career was going nowhere but oh well
That's life (and especially football) though - Blackpool gave Sonny Carey a chance when he was playing non-league and offered him a new contract, should he have been a bit more loyal to them?
Players move on, it's a shame in this instance but I don't see a player seeing out his agreed contract period as disloyal - we signed him for 18 months, he played those 18 months and gave his all, then moved on.
It's not really. Even though they're pretty shit, Preston are still an established Championship side and they've been able to give him a better offer. That combined with him likely being able to move back to his natural position has probably made it a no brainer of a decision for him.
It's disappointing of course but we moved on after losing Dobson, May and CBT so i'm not overly bothered about this.

I hope Thierry doesnt regret it either then, as he's seemingly chased the money a few times in his career - I dont say that bitterly either, I genuinely hope he goes on to have a great career, but his decisions have been a tad questionable.
Agree about the resale value, for FFP to count so much now, losing a player like him on compensation is a big blow.

Thanks for sharing. I’m not sure I think he’s worth that much per week to be honest - so I don’t necessarily blame ‘the board’ (and I’m sure NJ would have had a say in it as well. But as you mention, he may have ended up getting us a massive sell on.
As ever time will tell.
If Small reverts back to the mean of his pre Charlton career, just like CBT did, then it’s a massive waste of money by PNE.
This might be a bit controversial, but I thought that he was too prone to too mistakes and lapses in control, running the ball out, misplaced passes. He had potential, but I'm not overly sorry that he's off. Good luck to him.
Gutted that Thierry has gone to Preston. I assumed if he left he would go to a bigger club but the 4 year contract that PNE is offering must guzump the offer from Cafc.
Shame to see him go but not surprised, and not someone I’d call irreplaceable. His career shows he has plenty of belief in himself and is very comfortable moving clubs.
He has pace, strength, tricks, can beat players, use both feet and can play anywhere down either wing - so much potential if he can become more consistent, improve his decision making and show more end product.
It’ll be interesting to see where Preston play him. I liked him on the right, he was less predictable, and it was an important change in moving us from a mid table side into a promotion winning one.
I can’t see us signing like for like, but hopefully a good replacement or two isn’t far away.
I think fans are too harsh on lower league footballers. It’s a short career, and can end at any time. He may have been offered £500-750k more over that four year contract. But even an extra £100-200k more isn’t to be sniffed at.
It’s the players that already have £10m plus in the back that should be criticised more. And managers. Pep could have gone anywhere & was already set for life, before taking the City job.
Agree with this - look at someone like Reece Oxford, leaving his club at 26 after basically 3 years out injured.
You're one bad injury away from this being a last contract, it's understandable to go for the biggest offer.
I'm just honestly surprised if Preston are the biggest offer - hoped he'd stay, but if he didn't, feel like he could have done better elsewhere.
So will Ramsay go RWB and a new RCB comes in...... Or Ramsay stays RCB and we bring in a new RWB?
Second option, Ramsay is too good at RCB to shift him back out
Only way I see Ramsay back at RWB, is if Zach Mitchell is so good during Pre-Season, it becomes impossible to leave him out - Does anyone know how bad Zach's injury was at St. Johnstone or should he be back for Pre-Season?
He played a full part in our promotion so I salute him for that 🫡. He has pace which is always dangerous, but two goals from an attacking player is very disappointing. Went missing quite frequently and his first touch was doubtful at times.
He could burst into action and make mugs of defenders, but I am not convinced he will be able to do this with sufficient consistency for this league.
Good luck to the lad, but I think he will miss his mentor.
Good player for us. Bit of a gamechanger at times, especially in the second leg at home to Wycombe. Good luck to him, nice payday, doubt he’ll regret it, Preston are a decent club.

Would have been a massive asset but it is what it is, still been a really positive day.

It is why I was a bit gung-ho on the wages cause I was told that was the major stumbling block. It's why I also keep saying top league 1 players will be the strategy, if we can't afford to pay Thierry that, it's given me the impression that will be the theme for this window.
Great business by Preston, the funny thing is, a lot of their lot don't even believe it would have happened unless we played them in the FA cup. It was that performance that made them persist, typical if that really is the case.

When NJ came to Charlton he said players would leave that would upset the fans. But to judge him on their replacements. May and Dobson left giving most of us the hump. We then got promoted. Small has now left but before we all get annoyed let's see who comes in and how we do next season. Keep the faith.

When did he? He was at Everton as a kid but turned down their pro offer as he felt he wouldn't get much game time, so went to Southampton where he turned out he got no game time there either, and then signed for us.
This is the first time he's seemingly moved somewhere for the money.

Hope the replacement is on par otherwise we're down a talented threat down the right-hand side that was still improving.

Think we'll go in a different direction in terms of his replacement probably someone more in the Edwards ilk.
