Brownie gets a lot of stick for his co-comms but I find it quite endearing. He’s like our own club Mark Lawrenson.
I just can't get over how much he roots for the opposition absolutely every game.
Why would someone who virtually only played for one club in his career, has helped set up a Former Players Association, works on the clubs own streaming service be rooting for the opposition?

Can't beat Brownie. Yes he waffles on sometimes but his Chartlon frustrations echo my frustrations with the team. He wants us to be better and move up the leagues just as much as we all do.
The main difference is I don't mainly have a clue on professional football but Brownie does, played at the highest level and knows what he is talking about.
When it does get too much, cause I'm as annoyed as he is about the shite that is sent to my eyeballs I mix up a vodka martini and think that it only needs to click for Jones for us to be back up there.
I really miss the pre op half time and post matches shows. Quite pissed off they got rid of them
  • Brownie says it how it is. And fair play to him for doing so. He analyses the game well, giving much more insite into tactics and individual performances than most football commentators do. I wish some of the comments by the expert summarisers on Sky and TNT gave as much insight as Steve Brown. Only Gary Nevill comes close. But of course we will never se him on MoD, Sky or TNT, because he wasn't a top player. If he sounds negative when we are playing badly, then so be it. Some Lifers think his comments are long winded, but if you are trying to analyse a particular move, you can't do it in one sentence, when the play might have involved several passes leading up to a goal.
  • I just want to listen to the commentary. Happy for him to go on and on at half time but poor Terry a d Greg have to try and interrupt him when something happens. Brown is not good for audio.
  • I really like Steve Brown's contributions to Charlton TV - including the commentary. I was restricted to audio only for the Southend game, so wondered if I'd realise why so many people seem to be so wound up by him... I enjoyed his comms just as much. Hey ho!

I also think Terry - and particularly Greg - are excellent, too.

Steve Brown says it like it is, then says it again, then brings it up the next time, then repeats it, then he reminds you of what it is he says it about.
  • Funny how everyone likes Brownie for saying it as it is yet Golfie gets pelters

    My Analysis is that’s it’s SHIT…..

Browine says 500 words that basically says it’s SHIT, but explains why it’s SHIT.

Sadly he does not say it like it is. The complete opposite really. He spends so so much of the limited air time focusing on scenarios and passages of play he thinks should have happened.

Ultimately it’s just his conjecture and adds absolutely nothing to whats happening in the actual game.

Like a time our defender essentially forced a player onto their weaker foot, who then shot wide, and Steve Brown choose to focus on someone (who was off camera) defending on the back post - for a cross in a scenario that didn’t even happen.

I said in the previous match thread in all my time watching and listening to football I’ve never heard someone talk about how a match is unfolding like he does - and that for me says something.

If you can put up with that fine, but for me it just has grounded me down.

The frustrating thing with Brown is that it doesn't seem like he wants to improve as a co-commentator. He must surely be aware that people think he goes on for too long about things, but it never changes. Can imagine the frustration for anyone only listening to audio.

Really good show again tonight. Here's hoping for the previous format to return for next season so we can have a proper match experience on the TV

I hope they film it every 2 weeks next season. I think after every game is probably a bit much and curbs probably won't be there half the time.

Charlton TV is helping the club more than its probably aware of and Minto is doing a good job for us.

I hope guest appearances occur. Bowyer and Chris powell can join the 4 of them on the odd occasion.

They know the Championship well enough and provide important analysis.

I get the impression, not least from contact with Tom Rubashow in the run -up to the play off final, that the club knows it perfectly well. It has been completely shafted by the new Sky deal. It works best around a live game and we can't show legally show them any more to the domestic audience. We can't even show the highlights with our own team's commentary. That's how pathetic this deal is.

I'm referring specifically to the typically 9 minute highlights which are offered soon after the match finishes. It always has the vanilla Sky commentary. And I can see no good reason why the clowns who negotiated the latest contract thought it necessary to agree to that. What's the big loss to Sky if Charlton put out that highlights package with Terry and Greg on it?

Greg, Terry and Steve look a lot different, I suppose along with a bigger budget league comes the need and pressure  for plastic surgery. I mean apparently we've got to keep up with Preston

Paul Mullin can't get a spot in the side so he's moved to the Wrexham TV studio instead.

Charlton TV is incredibly important to those of us who are now expats, and the quality and presentation is brilliant. I miss the pre-game shows, for me it's the time to crack a beer and get excited for the game.

With the numbers that were at Wembley, compared to the numbers for the home games, there's a market for the service to be as it was prior to the changes last season. I hope the club revisit this.

My only gripe is that the full match replay isn't loaded onto the platform until days later.

If its just the subscribers that have access to the service, why not load it up for the following day? I pay to watch the games for the season, why can't I watch when it suits me?

I want to wake up, not see the result, and stick the game on. With the time zones being late night or early am hour game times for many of us, it's not possible to watch live.

Would there be a contractual issue (sky) for the club not being able to do this? I'd like to know the reasoning.
