Has anyone from the club actually said that our budget for the coming season is going to be poor/low/Div 1/or has in any other way suggested it wont be enough/very good, or is this just assumed speculation ?
No, they haven't.
Carter spoke about being sustainable which many took to mean not throwing loads of money at it but nothing was specified as far as I can remember.
Some have decided we spent little last season despite the club stating we had the 4th or 5th biggest budget according to Methven.
The club has just appointed an ex-EPL CEO which doesn't suggest penny pinching.
IMHO we will spend but the nature of the division means we'll be in the bottom half or even bottom quarter budget wise.
Exactly this. Spending big by our standards in comparison to most of the Championship is going to be the equivalent of Burnley spending big compared to Man City and Liverpool.

Your last line is key Henry, we're going from a league where half the league doesn't spend a transfer fee to a league where £2-4m is the norm for most of the league to spend on one player and there's a lot of sides that are more than happy to splash the cash.
Yes I accept that there are gems to be plucked out of league one but we need to be signing out of contract Championship players as our staple, not just league one. Good players in league one don’t always equate to good players in The Championship. We load those hopes and expectations onto too many of our recruits and we might come seriously unstuck. Chapple and Jones are shrewd I’ve no doubt but so are the rest of the division. We can’t outbid most of our rivals and we can’t just think we can outsmart them. Yes I know our squad is nowhere near complete but as we stand I can only see about six players that will possibly make the cut. That for me leaves a minimum of 8 Championship quality players required.
Unless the players were misinformed ahead of the final, as I have said before, one told me that the owners were explicit that they are going to give the Championship a real go, we would not be going up if we did manage promotion, to make up the numbers.
What giving it a real go looks like is anybody’s guess but suspect the wages budget has been healthily increased and funds are available for transfers which will be in millions (total) rather than tens of millions that the likes of Birmingham, Wrexham etc will shell out.
As with Oxford, Pompey etc in recent times I am expecting us to blend the best of what we have across positions with some higher standard new blood, those just below the cut kept amongst the squad, those quite far off Champ standard sold if under contract.
We have a very long way to go in the transfer dealing this summer but there has been a lot of noise around a few having been lined up already. What I am hoping is that one or two of those are attached to fees and for this reason alone we are holding back atm knowing that as soon as others suss we have a bit of cash to play with for a change, all fee demands will increase. Perhaps wishful thinking, but wouldn’t be surprised as we as a club now manage these processes very smartly and close to our chests as we do injury updates etc.
if there are no significant funds, what would be the point in recruiting Phil Chapple and a CEO who signed 20 players in a window.
Who said there “no “ funds ….. the owners said there will be funds available to make us competitive and we’re very open to fans about their ambition for getting us back in the big league .. not going to get there by having “no “ funds

You are arguing with someone making the same point as you.... Classic Ronnie behaviour, you absolute melon

No need to be rude to other fans. Just move on or don’t read posts from people who’s opinion you disagree with.

An interesting post from someone who regularly calls other fans bed wetters
Another element this season is that we need nine players on the bench. One of Nathan's rationales for reducing the squad last season was that he didn't want to have too many players outside the match day squad.
With the extra two places , this means that he needs twenty rather than eighteen as his core squad. He can now always have an extra striker , but doesn't need to lose defensive cover to accommodate this.
Played 109 games over the last 3 seasons. Stats look like he isn't hugely strong in the air but is decent in the tackle. Passing looks pretty accurate too. Young, played 26 games in the Championship and out of contract

Reading fans rate him very highly. Would be very happy if that happens 👍
I'm lazy, so don't take these as my thoughts, but here's some speculation on who would be good targets from The ChatGPT A.I.
Charlton Athletic, returning to the Championship with a small budget, will need to be smart in the transfer market—focusing on free agents, loans from Premier League and top Championship clubs, and undervalued talent from League One, League Two, or Europe. Here's a realistic and strategic shortlist across positions:
16 year old CB according to this, so would have moved up to our u18s this coming season. The link says his birthday is in February so we couldn’t have tied him down to a pro contract until 2026.
It worries me that Preston, mid-table for ages, crowds in the teens, have outbid us for Small. He was one of our better players bar the defence, and seemed to like it here.

Made 7 starts plus a couple of sub apps for our u18s last season (last two games are missing from the stats).

I think we will still be shopping at Lidl.
