Relax, it's coming from Alan Nixon.
It would be a strange one for Nixon to comment on if there wasn’t at least some truth in it?
  • It worries me that Preston, mid-table for ages, crowds in the teens, have outbid us for Small. He was one of our better players bar the defence, and seemed to like it here.

I think we will still be shopping at Lidl.
I think it's easy to forget that football clubs are businesses. If Charlton thinks he is worth twice what his 24/25 salary was, but Preston thinks it's quadruple, then Charlton may be making a rational business decision. It may be a good decision, it may be a bad decision. It's not simply a case of Preston being willing to spend more on a salary than Charlton. It may be they value him higher than Charlton, or Charlton has someone better up their sleeve for the same/less money. Let's wait and see what happens when the season kicks off.

You simply cannot disrupt the Charlton Life status quo.

Agreed, but to the best of my knowledge he has never been first to report a correct story. There's always a first time to break his cherry I guess.

It's fine, only another week of nonsense and panic attacks until the window opens up again...

Ironically Small's the exact type of player who we should be looking to sign from other clubs. Young talent who've made a splash, run down their contract and are looking for their first relatively big pay day and a stepping stone to the top flight. There's a lot of mileage both on the pitch and financially in those type of signings.

People are forgetting that Thierry Small has in his short career and age 20 been at more clubs than many seasoned pros. His agent has it would seem consistently moved him about. He’s chased the £ and fair enough. Whether PNE is a better career option than Charlton remains to be seen but I’d suggest that Preston are exactly the sort of club that Charlton needs to target to be above next season. I’m having a small bet with myself that Thierry isn’t a regular starter and his move rather than progressing his career turns out in fact to be a stalling. As far as I can see the only club and manager that TS has thrived under has been Charlton and Nathan Jones.

It doesn't really matter. We've lost a talented but very replaceable player. It's not like we lost Lloyd Jones.

Derby outbid us for CBT, Wrexham outbid us on Dobson, and Birmingham definitely offered May a salary increase. And look at us now........
    Favourites for relegation 😂

Signings will be the focus at The Valley, but it seems prospect Reuben Gokah is heading out the exit door.

Writing on his Patreon, reporter Alan Nixon has said that Premier League side Everton have swooped for the Charlton Athletic talent.

Aged only 16, the Toffees view centre-back Gokah as a big talent for the future and have moved to secure his services early. A deal has been sorted and he seems poised to make the move to Bramley Moore Dock.

It is not said what sort of fee CAFC will be getting from the sale if they are to land one, but it will be expected that a sum is involved as they bid farewell to one of their brighter youth prodigies.

Find it hard to believe that both Sean Roughan and Paudie O'Connor are gonna end up in League1 again with Huddersfield and Wycombe.

Especially O'Connor, we should be all over him if we persist with a back 5, he's literally Lloydys twin.

Just speculating but maybe O'Connor is aware he might not get much game time ahead of Jones. Obviously all players back themselves and love a challenge but plenty are realistic with this stuff too
I would say more so it's cause we probably aren't interested.

Which is a shame as he would probably start for us or at the very least be good cover in a championship squad. Him and Lloyd as 2 of your back 3 centre backs, good luck with any type of aerial threat.
Maybe get Piergianni in and complete the trio. :-)
One of the highest rated players in the league for the third successive season, imagine my shock.

Only Jones & O'Connor above him statistically for defenders. Piergianni is a top, top defender.
for a middling League 1 club
If he was 6 years younger, he wouldn't be at Stevenage, he's been a late bloomer and worked his way up the football leagues, fair play to him.

A very good defender. Whether or not he could play at a higher level we probably won't know.

But every stat he has suggests he could, and there have been far worse players that have played championship football as a centre back. I could name you a fair few for Charlton alone.

Anyway, not much point discussing. It's a bait comment and not entirely relevant.
Have read the same thing many times from you, so is relevant, he's bang average

Yeah it is, I just hadn’t seen any mention of him playing for England youth sides before.

Pretty sure this is the lad they’ve been chasing all year.  From successful family so money shouldn’t  really sway him.
Charlie was fighting back on this and refusing to bow down to their offers because he is such a good player and talent.

really pissed off with this one.  He was better than Gomez at that age apparently.

    This boy will go far

I have no idea how deals of this nature are agreed or any potential amounts involved but this is where I think there should be a minimum fee introduced if a Premier League side snatches a youngster away, say £10m. Peanuts to them if they can see significant potential in a player so why not make them pay an amount that will mean a lot to the club that developed the player.
