  • The Style Councillors at Colchester Art Centre last night aka the inside of a church!

A very impressive performance,  9 piece band, excellent DC Lee impersonator.
Isn’t it an offence to impersonate detective constable Lee?

    I love Colchester Arts Centre!

I'm photographing Bludfest at Milton Keynes Bowl today. It must be okay because I've never heard of anyone on the lineup! Very much one for the kids. Billy Idol is making a special appearance during Yungblud's set though, so that's keeping me happy...

    I’m pleased Yungblud has recovered.
He’s had tonsilitis the last 2 weeks.

Really like Yungblud … be interesting with Billy Idol

He's a really nice bloke, with lots of ideas and positive energy.

Yungblud seems to be a really genuine guy who actually cares about his fans. I'm old and cynical, but he's created a festival that is truly inclusive and genuinely. It has to be applauded. Absolutely brilliant live.

Billy Idol came on and sang White Wedding. Bucket list item ticked.

That must have been so good.

The documentary awhile back about Yungblud showed what a really genuine  … and nice … guy he is.
  • Seeing Bastille at The 100 Club next month.

Tried to get a ticket this morning but the presale code didn't let me in. A real treat.

That’s odd. I thought I’d mucked up as I’d clicked “apply” on the code a couple of times just before midday and it said I’d tried too many times and I’d have to wait 5 mins! Logged out, back in and it worked first time.

Pixies at Brixton Academy and PIL Margate this week
  • It's Pixies  ;)
  • We've got Linkin Park at Wembley Stadium tomorrow.
  • Just seen Olivia Rodrigo with the daughter at Hyde park, good gig, and got to see easily over the tops of all the teenage girls heads. Did feel slightly out of place, but got tickets to see prodigy and Carl Cox at Wembley arena next year to make up for it!
  • It's Pixies  ;)
    Suitably edited!

    Both were great
  • Went to the former on the recommendation of a mate and have essentially started listening to them since the gig

    .

  • Guns N Roses at Wembley Stadium a couple of days ago.

Always been a massive fan, and this is my 3rd time seeing the reunited lineup.

Axl’s voice does struggle in places but the energy and effort he puts in makes up for it. As a band they actually get better as it goes on. Ended up being a 3 hour set covering 30+ songs. They definitely try to give people their money’s worth.

The only thing is that it means the show started at 7, whilst the stadium was still only half full.

Slash was incredible as usual. Doesn’t miss a beat.

  • Fontaines DC at Finsbury Park next for me. Saturday next week.
  • Have sworn off stadium and O2 Dome gigs and I’m only going to smaller venues.

Sick of paying ludicrous prices, if lucky enough to get a ticket, for what is essentially a poor overall experience. Loathe the O2 Dome with a vengeance (although have been to some memorable gigs there). The whole thing stinks. Overpriced tickets, overpriced drinks, overpriced parking and then watching artists who you can often barely see.

On Tuesday, at the hall by the sea in Margate, we were a couple of yards from the stage. Even at the back downstairs at the Brixton Academy for Pixies 🧚‍♂️ there was loads more atmosphere (although having repeatedly show your ticket every time you returned from the foyer was a pain).

Next gig is Christone “Kingfish” Ingham in Kentish Town.

Why did you keep going to the foyer?
There are bars at the back and a toilet in the small room off the back of the auditorium.
There is also a "gents" on the left hand side as you look at the stage (towards the front).
You don't need to show your ticket at all if you exit the auditorium on the right hand side as you exit and go into the attached room with a bar and toilets.
You do need to show ticket every time if you exit via left side into auditorium.
  • Linkin Park were brilliant last night 9/10.

Yes I know but it was easier getting a pint in the foyer, less of a queue

I don’t understand why, once you go in through the initial security, which was greatly beefed up, you then have to have further checks - seems a little pointless. That’s said last time I went to Brixton was pre Covid - Mastodon - and overall I this time was far better organised after the reopening.

My favourite London venue is the Roundhouse - Saw Killing Joke
  • Having ranted about larger venues I brought standing tickets for the Damned at Wembley Arena - Last went there in 1981
  • Maiden at the Olympic Stadium last night. Cracking set including the full 15 minute rendition of the Rime of the Ancient Mariner. Bloody hot though!

    Cracking show. Great setlist.

Bloody nightmare to get out of after though.

It's because there is the circle upstairs and they don't want circle ticket holders in the stalls.
I prefer the better view at Brixton with the sloped floor.

I need to post this on the "Things that make you feel old thread". Just seen it's their 50 year anniversary show. I was at both their 10 year anniversary shows at Finsbury Park.
