I vaguely remember something about Brits preferring brown eggs because they thought they were healthier.
Is that not actually the case?
    No

    so called double yolks
That would be a twin yolk
  • Dark yolk is the holy grail, shell colour is irrelevant to me.
Although I prefer shells not covered in shite
I don't think it matters about the colour of the egg yolk. If it's a dark orange it just looks better than a light yellow yolk but taste wise I think they're about the same.
Farmers use feed with various colouring agents (marigolds are one) to change the colour of the yolk.
Does it make much of a difference in taste?

Makes them a bit rubbery 😉

White eggs reminds me of American TV shows, so yeah, I sort of do think brown eggs are healthier.

Colour of egg yolk depends on what they feed.

The public will believe anything the media tells them.

    Take politics, for example.
    And Brown eggs 🙂

Whatever you feed the chooks comes though in the taste. I’ve never tried a dark yoke next to a light one though.
Some people give their chooks garlic in their feed as it’s meant to be good for them (farmers won’t as it’s too dear. Apparently the taste comes though 🤢

Saves adding it afterwards when you're cooking them for the Sunday roast. :o

We've given our chickens garlic granules before as a general tonic.  Can't say I've noticed the flavour difference in their eggs, though.

Yeah, but afterwards nobody kissed you.
    Didn't you notice?

  • I’m going to say for anyone over the age of about 50, white eggs were the norm. Brown eggs were a novelty when they started to come around the early 80s?

not seen a double yolker for decades ..  when I were a nipper, they were not that uncommon
Still being laid, but supermarkets won’t sell them !
  • Bloody brown eggs coming over here taking breakfast jobs away from the white eggs
This is basically the freedom of speech thread
  • I prefer Cadbury's Creme eggs meself...
  • White shells are thinner so whilst easier to crack they will shatter into the omelette. I prefer a blue egg to confuse my wife

I prefer most things not covered in shite.
