  • Foreign language: Tehran. Couldn’t be more current - it is an Israeli series about an agent undercover in Iran. I didn’t find it very bias and was just very eye opening and liked characters from both ‘sides’. First two series on Apple TV but series 3 isn’t and was halted due to October 7th etc. Series 3 has aired in Israel though and you can find it elsewhere online. If you like modern day espionage - this is one for you.

Would love to know any other recommendations people have for these types of series? I’m thinking Homeland, Fauda, Day of the Jakal, Deutschland 83, Le Burreau etc.
Homeland is great, with English actors who you wouldn't guess were Brits. Ditto The Wire. Sopranos a classic, the two thugs tempted into a snowy forest in inadequate clothing is a  favourite but also the sub-titled Spiral, the Bridge, and the Killing. Under the radar We Hunt Together, Hermione Corfield is gorgeous.
The Spy with Sasha Baron-Cohen excellent in a straight role as an Israeli agent undercover in Syria. Really good.

  • The second series of Mobland has been given the nod.
  • The Assembly on ITV. Just watch it.

The Danny Dyer episode is incredible. The song at the end that they all join in on brought a tear to the eye. Not an easy thing to do when I am dead inside.
  • Thank you for suggesting the Assembly, would have gone under my radar.

Danny Dyer is sometimes labelled marmite, but he’s a fucking decent human being.

Can’t decide if the world has changed or he has, every time I see him he comes across so well and seems a genuinely good guy.

Used to think he was a complete dickhead but the more I see of him I have to say he does seem a decent and funny guy.

I've really been enjoying The Gold, although it does feel slightly weird having my childhood era featuring in a period drama. While series 2 is a lot more fictional than series 1, the Charlie Miller character appears to be partly based on Charlie Wilson, who was one of the Great Train Robbers - my Dad used to work with one of his cousins, so recognised some of the elements of his story.
Although while he did lose a couple of million quid of the money, I have my doubts that it was by getting scammed by a pretty woman in an airport lounge bar

I'm close to giving up on s2. I really enjoyed s1 but I'm struggling with some of the new characters and story lines
  • Another shout of thanks for all the Assembly recommendations.

never would have watched it but glad I did.
  • Gold series 2 was pants.

  • Finally got round to finishing Industry series 3.
    Franetic as always. Great watch
  • Looks like Department Q on Netflix is going to be a good watch. Basically a Stuart MacBride novel in visual form. Properly dark Tartan Noir
Up to episode 6 and enjoying it

Quite enjoyed it some of it filmed in Hastings (Isle of Man) and seeing the Millwall fan getting conned and chased was good.
