Excited by this one. Looking forward to seeing what's to come.

    Love the GK jersey too.
  • Looks a brilliant signing.

    More of this please!!

I'm expecting a lot more shots on target next season so a keeper who is good at keeping them out seems an excellent choice
    13K a week & he can't even catch the ball  :D
  • Just seems a really good signing. He is at the very least a proven championship player, and we shouldn't have to worry about his performances based on the highlights.

From what I can tell he is an excellent 'shot stopper' but apparently he isn't great at claiming high balls or distribution. I would always prioritise a keeper who just keeps a ball out of the net though tbh.

The fee is apparently 800k? Which is good cause it shows there is a willingness to spend now. Wages allegedly 13k a week, which is about the going rate for a good championship keeper, so fair play to the club for shelling it out, they had to to make us competitive.

This signing replicates what Pompey and Oxford did, and I would be more than happy to see us emulate either of their seasons.

Welcome Thomas, hope we have an incredible 3 years with you where I feel we have missed a proper no.1 for a very long time.
    Richard Cawley said 7 figures.

Really happy with this signing. Luton fans seem livid we only supposedly paid 1 mil for him.
I don't see why. He was supposedly going to Turkey for free.
He stuffed the turkey and roasted it...😉

Which would be spot on 1 million as reported. I've seen 1 million euros as well which is 857k, and I've also seen 1 million gbp. Club said undisclosed so we won't know.

Either way, it's only 100 odd thousand difference which is pennies in the champ.

It is still nice to see us sign an actual championship quality player.
Agree, think it’s a quality signing and hoping for more of this standard.

Interesting take from a Luton fan on their message board...

Anyone who leaves Luton for a pisspot champ clubPosted by Fake Jindlay on 1/7/2025, 15:13:28like Derby or Charlton, is basically saying “I am better than this league one shitshow”.Well the facts indicate otherwise. Off you fuck.
They really are a bitter lot...🤦‍♂️
Their season in the sunshine gave them more than a bit of a self importance boost to say the least. Charlton and Derby are both vastly bigger clubs than Luton Town. I hope they enjoy their slice of League 1 next season- it certainly knocks the Billy big bollocks out of clubs over time. Welcome Thomas!

Just extend the airport over the whole town
  • Seems like an ambitious signing, good start, much more required.

A good signing but my 2 observations are he’s an international but has played 1 game at the age of 32 and Luton still got relegated last season….but as others have said if this shows what we are preparing to spend we should give it a good next season.

Welcome to the league one shitshow. I expect you will be enjoying it for a few years.
Actually quite difficult to screw up leaving League One when still getting premier league parachute payments...

Never seen him play, hopefully as good as all the reports.
Same, at least not that I can remember.

Reports from Luton fans online seem to be really good shot stopper, terrible on crosses etc.

Interesting that him and Mannion may have opposite strengths.

It should have been quite difficult to screw up at least surviving in the Championship with parachute payments too, yet here they are. As we found out the hard way sometimes it's very tricky to get out of a bad spiral downwards.
I believe that they hardly spent anything last season principally because they directed a fair proportion of their parachute payment towards funding their new stadium

That is a fair point but still means they've been left with a pretty stale and demotivated squad. Throwing money at it CAN work (as Birmingham proved) but its far from guaranteed. If the fans/players etc have lost a bit of faith then it can become self-perpetuating - as happened to us. The cynicism and lack of genuine belief won't be fixed just by signing a 20 goal striker or imperious centre back, they look like needing a total overhaul and starting from scratch.

    They call him dracula
  • Great signing and good to get it done before pre-season.

One of the most important positions in the team. If you've got a good keeper that the defence trusts then it's always a good thing.

Probably a bit harsh on Mannion as he was great last season, but this is a level up and football is ruthless.
  • Tbf to PH he wasn't competing with Courtois over the last 2 years as Courtois refused to play for Tedescu.

Looks a solid signing, shame for Mannion as he helped us get promoted, but as Jones said there's no room for sentimentality.

Slight concern was that he seemed to push the ball back out into the box in some of those highlights, but statistically he looks to be a good upgrade for us.

Throwing money at it in League One will definitely work. It’s generally a poor league. Fill your squad with quality and you’ll go up. Championship is a different thing altogether.

Keeping it out of the net will be more important .  Kiely wasn’t brilliant at patrolling his box , admittedly in a different era , but defenders knew what he was going to do and it didn’t create havoc .  He was also the best goalkeeper in my Charlton lifetime .

Are you expecting him to play over Courtois ?

no as I'm not that dense but I was pointing out the "international" tag is a bit of a fable when he's played about 20 mins for an international side in a friendly against Ireland. and he still got relegated from the championship. its amazing this forum not allowed to have an opinion unless its positive all the time.
Not even that, he played 7 minutes. Must be one of the shortest international careers of all time.

But still a good achievement to reach that level given their other keepers.

It's also worth noting that he played for Belgium at multiple youth levels from U15s to U21s.
