Misinformation and disinformation still somehow managing to reach my parents despite me trying to help them filter out rubbish from their social media. What happened to not believing everything you read!
My Father in Law was a sane man at one stage, then got a Twitter account & has essentially been radicalised by the right, he bangs on constantly about Reform, Tommy Robinson & all kinds of Trump related propaganda - worse thing he ever did getting Twitter
Same has happened to my Dad. Ironic really as when I was a child he wouldn't stop saying things like "you can't believe everything you read online" and "the internet will rot your brain" and that's exactly whats happened to him.
I have got mates who are the same. Currently debating with some of them about Lucy Connelly. One said that she was arrested the day she tweeted and in court straight away, another claimed she had "no previous". When I pointed them to the facts, one went quiet the other claimed they meant no previous convictions, the other vile tweets didn't count . So I linked him to a page explaining the sentencing guidelines the judge followed, but she's still a political prisoner apparently. There's no budging them once a complete stranger has confirmed their prejudices...  Thinking about it, they are/I am probably the same age as your dad.
  • Misinformation is becoming dangerous, there were people arguing yesterday about the heat alerts, saying 'it's summer' and it's the Government trying to control us. I saw some posts claiming that sun cream & wearing sun glasses is dangerous. I saw another that said that rape seed oil is in everything and is being used to fry us. It beggars belief that people actually believe this rubbish.

Sadly it is my generation that seems to be the one that is most likely to fall for misinformation and science is ignored.

Many social media posts in my opinion are either attention seeking or rage bait.

Commuter trains with no vents or air con. Dread to think what the temp is in this sauna but have sweat dropping off my head.

Borderline dangerous tbh if we hit an issue. Poor pregnant woman opposite me
Madness with how much train fares are these days that trains don't have basic AC, or at the very least windows throughout the carriages that can open more than 5cm.
06:37 to Cannon St from Grove Park this morning.

Old train with those twisty round air vents.
Pushes out a similar volume of air as a farting wasp.

Dreading train on way home tonight 😫

Any chance of moving on to more general 'fun' things rather than re-hashing quasi-political stuff from the free speech thread. Thanks.
Cmon now mate, you’re really asking a lot of some people…..

Why is it almost almost impossible to get a proper pint of bitter in pubs.I went to a pub yesterday I had not visited before, there must have been 6-7 choices of lager and one choice of amber  ale.
Was it bloody Doom Bar? The most boring ale on the market, pretty much.
And the choice of quasi Italian/French/Belgian/American lagers will doubtless all have been brewed in the same giant stainless steel tanks in Staffordshire, with largely identical ingredients. Don't go back to that pub, is my advice.
I did visit one pub in Waltham Abbey where the landlord, when asked what bitters he had, proudly declared none, it's all lager in here. Or Guinness.
Deeming it unworthy of my trade, I insisted to my very thirsty lager drinking companion that we leave immediately. Some pubs deserve to close.
Yes it was,Doom Bar proper bitter when you can get it is fine, but this amber ale was crap.
  • Air conditioning, its never quite right for me and I don't get to decide what it should be set at. The train this morning wasn't too bad, I get into work and they couldn't get it colder. I bet the train this afternoon won't have any.

    What did you settle on?

I had the amber ale as I dont drink lager, but it was a struggle to drink it.

You'll be annoyed when you find out your office is moving to Shepherds Bush

I remember, as a child, VAT was introduced at 10%. At least Jaffa cakes are still exempted.
  • My missus losing shit!! - Goes to work this morning, she cant find her stethoscope, thinking she's left it at home... the latest item of many that she "misplaces" - I pull apart the living room in this f**king heat, trying to find it for her, as she thinks she's left it at home.

Just had a message... "Found it"  :|:|

I know how you feel mate my mother in law is the same. She genuinely thinks ALL immigrants are terrorists coming here to kill her and Trump is literally a God. It’s fucking infuriating

The 60 mph limit on the M1 near Luton and Dunstable and the bullsh*t reasons given for the limit. This evening heading South I hit the limit,  the condescending sign tells me the limit is due to congestion. Absolute rubbish, very few cars on the road for 19:00 they even turned off the hardshoulder it was that quiet. Why can't they be honest and either say we need some cash, or want to reduce pollution?
I've seen the same reason in the middle of the night.
Nothing worse than being told bullsh*t, and especially the completely unbelievable kind.

Second thing, modern white line paint is rubbish. Lasts a week and starts wearing out.
  • The amount of ladies (particularly those that are so vocal about misogyny) going to see convicted woman beater Chris Brown is concert over the last couple of weeks.

    The hypocrisy is rife.

    Be kind, right?

  • Easy peelers from Sainsburys, absolutely no need for then and they are tasteless. And the tasteless bit I would extend to a lot of our supermarket fruit & veg. They all look the right shape colour and size but lack the important taste factor. I think they are obviously imported unripe. The Europeans must have a chuckle when they crate up their produce and ship it off to us.

havent had a decent orange for years, nice and pristine externally, inside a dry, juiceless husk.

Bought a bag yesterday for the office desk. Dry and tasteless- usually not the case so maybe just a bad batch…
