Improvement on Small? Time will tell...
Having watched him a few times, I think that in terms of raw pace, power and ability to muscle himself into a position... no he isn't. Although he is quick.

In terms of playing as part of a team, running all game, intelligence of pass and shot... yes he is.

I am really happy with this one and think he'll fit perfectly into a Nathan Jones team.

What position is he gonna play though?

I've heard that he's terrible when required to make any tackles... He tends to take chunks out of the opposition

He scored 8 goals last season & 13 when on loan at Tranmere. So a big improvement on Small. Don't care if he cant defend, that's the job of the 10+ defenders we have.

Can’t say I followed him much last season, but he’s the player that stands out to me as the most impressive I saw at The Valley last season.

Gave Thierry Small such a terrible time we took him off after 30 odd minutes and never saw him at Left Back again.

This seems a really exciting signing.

    The transfer fee is undisclosed.
We (I) won’t really know if he is any good until we see him playing in the flesh for half a dozen games.
I don’t think he will be a dud, but it is not unknown in our recent experience what with Charlie Kirk, Ben Reeves and Gassan Ahadme as examples.
I hope Rob is so tricky opponents nearly dislocate their hips trying to stop him.

Excited by this one, sounds like we have finally signed a player who can take on a defender, beat him and get a cross in

Great signing. Excited to see him in a Charlton shirt. I’m glad we can leave the poor Blackpool fans alone, what a weird bunch, it’s amazing what one season in the prem can do to a club. Most deluded lot I’ve come across. Anyway DKD next?

Interesting that there's absolutely no reference to his position in the interview, either with Jones or in the narrative. Jones described Bell as a left-sided centre back and JRC as a centre mid so we know how they'll generally be used but other than Apter apparently fitting the structure well there's nothing. Maybe Jones doesn't even know exactly where he'll use him yet
I can’t see there not being a plan, NJ doesn’t work that way. Can’t see the board signing off an expensive signing if we only have a vague idea how he’ll fit in.

It might suggest RWB, as it would look odd if he comes in and NJ immediately talks about sticking a goalscoring winger at WB. But we know if he plays there he’ll have a lot of freedom and we’d be switching to a back four when in possession.

Looking forward to seeing him play.
Yep, I'm sure there's a plan, but I also wonder if it's a situation where he's earmarked to play RWB but they're also thinking about playing him further up in a 343 or at 10 in a 3421 and will change that based on how he does in training and what the prevailing wind is for the team. His versatility will definitely be a strength

Ben Reeves of all people? You had more than a decade of absolutely criminal signings and you went with a free transfer who played just shy of 30 games a season, contributed consistently in a promotion season and popped up with some useful goals despite rarely playing in a system that suited him? We signed Leon Best, Sullay Kaikai and Joe Dodoo that same season!

    We could stay up !!
    some potentially exciting signings
will need to see with my own eyes to cast an opinion that actually matters,  rather than the usual tug fest over every being that we sign

Signing a winger rarely goes well for us.

    Prove me wrong Rob!

I read somewhere that Rob Apter has good workrate.

NJ will want him to press and track back.
Lacking the physique of Small, Apter will play a similar role in a slightly different way, using quick feet and guile - but with end product.

Look forward to seeing him play as I do with all the new signings, can’t say I know much about any of them but for some reason, unlike the last 10 years, I have much more confidence in the decision making at the club. Can’t wait for the season to start.
  • He seems more effective kicking right to left.

As you say possibly sacrificing a little defensive side for a bit more attacking,a Blackpool fan made a nice post on the other forum wishing him well and that his best position will be in a 10 someday and we shouldn't play him rwb as he reckons he's not that good there but of course it's down to our set up how he plays and develops.
