  • Nathan Jones really wasn't joking when he said that now's the best time to be a Charlton fan at Boxpark after Wembley, this is a fantastic statement of intent from the owners and management of the club. An utterly brilliant deal, take that Wrexham!

What's it got to do with Wrexham 😂
I just like the fact they're struggling to get some young players in their team! Got a Wrexham fan at work (a real one, not hollywood) and he was insistent that Wrexham were going to steal him last minute.. so damn happy that isn't the case

Hopefully the journey we're on now leads to the return to the Premier League, it certainly seems like that's the goal from the current ownership for sure now. I'm keeping my expectations low for this season, but for the first time in so many years I feel like we're doing the right things as a club.

  • Yet another good signing!

The next ch-apter for our club feels more promising by the day.

(apologies if chapter has already been done)
We’re at the epilogue now with that joke

  • Something something APT song.
  • Some really interesting points on today's NTT20 newsletter about Apter (it's on the paid tier so I can't copy direct so will just summise, got shot maps etc on the actual piece as well as a link to their very good 21 under 21 piece on him from last season)

+ Love him as a player but asks the question where is he going to play , they've got him in the Small role but would see it as ballsy for a side that's going to be an underdog in most games

    - Concerns about power 1v1 Vs championship defenders , scored a lot of his goals last season from similar areas and can he get to those in the championship.

    NEW BLOG:

Another one I didn't really want to write. I used to not mind Charlton - now I'm double locking my doors in case they come and nick my stereo and telly.

Rob Apter was a lot of fun - I will miss the lad. Good luck to him!

Well that is an enjoyable read I was genuinely concerned when Small left that I had lost the player that got me off my seat in expectation of what he might do ! From that blog it seems my concern was in vain bring Watford on !!

More fabulous writing to follow the Carey one. I should probably read this blog regardless of whether there's a new Charlton signing involved

Another fantastic piece. Interesting that he mentions the potential of him moving inside to play as a 10 too. Still have no idea where Jones wants to play him and suspect we won't get a clue until Wealdstone on Wednesday
  • I'm not going all the way to Blackpool for a stereo

    What about for the tv?

  • Quality Blog that.

This reads well for being a 10 later down the line

"All of this leaves me wondering if his future might see him come inside. He's so good in a crowd that the open space of the wing seems a waste in some ways. He needs more time though - he's not yet wise enough to be that fulcrum of team, to know when precisely to give and when to go - there's still development to be done - it's just a case of enough football in his legs, enough games running through his memory. "

From what I've seen of him he reminds be a bit of a Jack Grealish but on the other side.

Not super quick but skilful and good in tight spaces.

Apter mentions Grealish (and Countinho) in a quote on Cawley’s recent article about the move. He said he tries to play like him, and the article points out he even wears his socks in the same way.

There you go then, Grealish it is, still available and pretty good so i've heard...🙄

I'm going to watch some Videos of Apter because I assumed Rob beat players with pace and  Grealish is skilful but slow and because Jack doesn't have pace to leave his defenders behind he would get fouled more than any players going when he actually got on the pitch.
Jack Grealish has brilliant feet so if he has 50% of his skill we have a bargain; I just hope Apter has more pace !

    Videos here I come 👍🏻
  • I wouldn’t call Apter fast. He’s no slouch, but he’s certainly not the type to burst past defenders with pace and power like Thierry Small.

That’s the concern with him playing the unorthodox RWB role that Small filled. Apter will have to carry the ball from deep, but he’s a player who comes alive around the box - which, funnily enough, is the complete opposite of Small.

More importantly I have complete faith Nathan Jones knows exactly what he's doing and what's required for the level.

  • One of Apters strengths as I understand it, is his first touch and ability to retain possession in tight spaces. That’s an asset that can be invaluable when you’re defending and looking for an outlet that doesn’t come straight back at you. Of course Apters been brought in primarily for his offensive potential but I can see him being very useful in other ways.

He hits his top speed exceptionally quickly but you're right, his top speed isn't that of Small's. His tricky is better though, Small was quite flashy and fun to watch but his stepovers and flicks weren't hugely consistent

I understand what covered end Junior meant.
Grealish is a right footer playing on the left and Apter is very left footed mainly playing on the right after seeing the video of him at Tranmere and Blackpool.
Better end product than Small but Thierry could go past defenders on the inside or on the outside or just run the ball out !

If you were a Championship defenders playing on the left you really shouldn't be fooled so easy as the defenders lower down the pyramid were in letting Rob cut in on his left every time from the right side.

Looks a good signing with a higher ceiling.

  • I can't see Apter fulfilling the Small role, he doesn't appear athletic enough.

I think it will be 343 with TC and Apter either side of a striker, or a 3412 and Apter will play in the 10 or maybe even do what TC does and drift out wide as a striker.

I can't see any scenario where he is up and down the right flank all game, I will be surprised if that isn't Ramsay now based on our transfer business so far, or maybe Costello, but I think he will be pairing Coventry in the middle.
