Guess the score at close of play tonight, assuming no more stoppages & they go on until 7.30 (light permitting).

Probably around 20 overs. 3 an over approx.

    60 runs. 2 wickets.

    Spread......

    Good.   50 for 3 or 4
    Bad       80 for 0 or 1.
    So 70/2.

Evens. Or India's session ?  3 drops didnt help.

Why is Dawson our sub fielder anyway? Haven't they got a local gun fielder who could be out there?
All the others are quicks - Archer, Carse and Cook - and they are probably too delicate to risk.
I mean having a local Surrey youngster. A  Gary Pratt type.
I appreciate that they are used, on occasions, but there is even more pressure on them than there is an England international. In the same way as Pratt is remembered for running Ponting out, a youngster would carry a drop like Dawson's wherever he went, even more so if the player in question went on to make a big score. Those England squad players are paid tens of thousands whereas a young kid would probably be lucky to get a selfie!!!

Seriously, how do we get to a situation in August where an England international (and a batter at that) has played one red ball game all season and that was six weeks ago? Bethell might be capable of producing the goods without previous time in the middle but we really aren't giving him the best tools with which to prove himself.
How do we get to the situation when the main test series has to be crammed into a ridiculously short period of time with far too short a rest period between tests. No wonder Stokes, Woakes etc have injuries - its not good for the players well-being
Woakes' injury can't really be out down to playing too many Tests in a short period of time.
Maybe, maybe not. Tiredness and stress on the body makes it much less resilient, even to a fall. It can't be good for any of the players to be cramming in such intense cricket in such a short time. It is disgraceful
But Woakes' injury can't be put down to playing too many Tests in a short period of time.
It's not just about Woakes and yes, it could still have contributed

Bad news for England's depleted bowling attack that tomorrow is bright and rain free, as they could have done with the rain breaks of the last 2 days to give their bowlers a rest.

I think we're in trouble by say 12:30, when we're having to rely on Bethell or Root to hold an end.

Explain to me how Woakes' injury could have been down to playing too many Tests in a short period of time.

It's clear that stress injuries or mental or physical exhaustion might be caused by too much intense cricket. For example Ben Stokes missing the current Test.

But not an awkward fall while chasing a ball. That's not caused by the fact he played last week as well.

Feel for Tongue here. Bowling well. LBW not out on umpires call. Next ball Crawley drops a relatively easy one.

4 drops in this innings already. Just catch the flipping thing

No wickets in the first hour ?  I'm off out soon & wont be back until 1.30. Last Sat when that happened Woakes got 2 in 2....

(You can thank me later) 😉

Bowling is shit. Even at only 4ft 11, I would fancy batting against our  bowlers.

Why have we just not moved gully to a 5th slip position as that's where everything is going?

    Breakthrough. Finally.

And fair play to Overton. Taken a bit of stick here but 9th over of his spell and his pace is still well up in the mid-high eighties.

Stoke on a rainy night in November is not much to miss.

England's squad management can definitely be questioned.  Playing both Carse and Archer at OT, then resting both here was odd. Not getting overs into the reserve bowlers by letting them play either.

This is actually turning out to be an entertaining Test.
    All 3 results still possible.

If Tongue could bowl successfully at the stumps more than occasionally, he would be very good.
