    If Carlsberg did Saturdays
Who’s the fella standing next to Matt Allwright?
  • KAMINSKI: Indecision should have lead to a penalty but I think once he settles he’ll be a big player for us.

RAMSAY: Carried on where he left off, no worries about him at this level at all.

JONES: An absolute colossus of a man, like Ramsey I’ve no doubts he’ll step up and he did great today. (Also won the header at the back post for the goal)

BELL: A couple of moments where I thought he was about to lose it but he didn’t, overall an impressive debut.

APTER: Looks a player, in another day he has a goal or 2 and an assist. Some lovely balls into the box and a couple of decent efforts at goal.

CAREY: Impressive debut, I expect Knibbs will take his spot in the long run but he put in a real shift today.

COVENTRY: His usual self, got around the pitch and composed on the ball.

DOCHERTY: Probably the weak link in midfield as expected, good out of possession but I think we could do with someone more comfortable in possession there as the side evolves into a more established championship side. Maybe that is JRC.

EDWARDS: Handled Bah well, again no concerns with him making the step up.

KELMAN: Needs to be stronger and link up better. Early days though and he didn’t have an awful lot to work with. Godden also didn’t look great during his first few games last year.

CAMPBELL: Bloody frustrating, a few runs that scared Watford but his passing was dreadful. At least 3 occasions he just gave it straight to them and Watford countered.

Leaburn: Made a nuisance of himself, good to see him back out there.

Knibbs: Pressed and scored, can see him being our biggest goal threat this year.

Gillesphey: Can consider himself unlucky to be dropped but I think Jones did make the right call. The extra pace that Bell offers us will be important.

Olaofe: He’s gonna cause sides problems, especially when coming off the bench. Looked powerful and quick. One particular run down the left hand side where they tried dragging him back but he still got through.

My take was we started well and should have got an early goal. Watford sorted themselves out and grew into the game but they didn't look clinical at any stage. There were opportunities that didn't amount to anything but could of with a bit of composure but we were the team creating the decent chances. I was thinking we would score if we didn't concede and still felt it into added time. They visibly stopped going for three points with 10 mins to go although Kaminski fell asleep and nearly let them in but I think that approach helped us.

In the west upper it seems that the law about drinking in sight of a football game has changed. Quite a few bringing pints in.

Being a 12.30 ko on a Saturday it was always unlikely I'd be able to listen to it all.
Finished cleaning the cottage in time to tune into Brownie getting emosh about Sir Chrissys return to The Valley & then us getting right stuck in for 30mins. The covered end sounded amazing 🤩
Then the guests turned up & that was the end of that until I sat down with a cuppa to see Knibbsy win it in the last minute.
I bet my Bruv went mental lol
God, how good does it feel like to be a somewhat normal football club again?
    We deserve this everyone ❤️

I imagine Edwards was gutted to be taken off as he had played so well. I saw Curtis Fleming having an extended word with him.

Fair play to the Watford Manager, doesnt have a bitch and whinge about the penalty they should have had, I know we should have had at least one ourselves, but wouldn't have blamed him, had he brought it up

Reaction: Pezzolano On Charlton - Watford FC
Disappointed they didn’t ask him where he got his white shirt from or why he sits on a milk crate.
    Liked his sneakers too

Was it an injury ? He had been on the ground getting treatment before being taken off. Certainly hope not.

It was the physio who signalled for the sub. Hopefully just as a precaution

Edwards went down on the deck after he had seen off Baah. Good sub with Macca coming on and Bell going to Josh's position.

I said we would use 16 players to either win it or hold on but just the 15 today with Miles, Tanto, Macca and Harvey all playing good cameos.

Bizarre conversation with a Watford fan on the train. I said I thought we deserved to win. He said, ‘If you think you deserved to win that then you’re in for a long hard season’. I tried to make sense of that but I couldn’t. I said, ‘Not only did we score, but we worked your goalie several times’.
Him: ‘Shots on target mean nothing in this league. Wait till you play the top teams. Wait till you play Leeds’
Me: ‘Leeds are in the premier league, mate’.
Him: ‘Okay then, Sheffield United. They don’t even need shots on target’.
Me: ‘Well presumably they need at least one’.
Him: ‘No. That’s the thing. They don’t’.

Unfortunately we arrived at London Bridge then, so I never got to find out how the top teams are so good that they don’t need shots on target to win games.

There is a lot of inbreeding up there!

Just seen the replay of the game, I think we should’ve got a penalty, Ngakia makes no attempt to play the ball and takes Edward’s out.
But then again their penalty shout late on was an absolute stonewaller, turns out the refs don’t get any better in the championship.

Should have binned off your plans for the rest of the afternoon, and carried on the conversation with him, even as far as Watford if needbe. I'm going to be awake all night now, trying to work out what the f**k he was on about as a result, so thanks for that :D

Am I off the mark thinking Ramsey’s potential can’t be far short, if at all, of what Gomez was showing at the same stage in his career.

Enjoyed that. The intensity was very different to a L1 game, as was the concentration from a Charlton team from many seasons back.

Really impressed with the ability, craft, and desire of every player. It's hard to focus on individuals when NJ is building a non-individual based team.

An excellent start to the season.

In all seriousness, he did have a bit of a Habsburg look about him.

The thing Ramsay has against him is Father Time, he's 25 in October so needs to push on soon to stake a claim at a Prem team, if that's his ceiling

Delighted to hear about today's match.

Few things better than nicking a win at the death and seems like we competed well and matched Watford a team likely to be mid table contenders in my opinion.

I'll take 21st now but if we can go better than that I'll obviously take it.

    COYR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
