It was quite simple, walked up to the counter and said 2 adults and 2 children please. If I can do that waking up in Germany, not sure where the problem exists?..
It’s been commonplace for the last 20 years or so since online sales started, that they withdraw online ticketing purchases a few hours before the match to allow walk ups. Most likely to avoid duplicate sales and pissed off customers.
Not sure why this is such a big problem, pretty much every club in the country does it
How many games are there likely to be where we sell so many tickets online in the three hours before kick off that there wouldn't be enough seats left for walk ups? It's not like we're going to sell out every week, even in this division. I also suspect that a fair number of the people buying online in the last 3 hours would be people that might otherwise be walk ups, making it even less of an issue. And as @valleynick66 says above, duplicate sales surely wouldn't be an issue either.
It's an absolute credit to all the pre internet fans, that used to schlep down to the ground week in week out to pay on the gate, despite having no guarantee of getting in. Heroes one and all.

Agree. I still don’t know who it was that was on the video talking about the crowd we were hoping for and then about the ground improvements. I’m assuming he is in a witness protection programme.

My son's friend rang on Friday at 9pm and wanted to come so i bought him a ticket (I have a season ticket) his mates often buy their tickets at the main box office 30mins before the match, when there are no ticket restrictions with no problems ever. As for Valley catering & bars, I don't bother, north stand fans bar isn't great lets be honest and bars if you call it that in East Stand are over priced and long queues with average food. Yesterday 14 of us meet in Viva Cafe about 1/2 a mile away as one of our party is disabled so we needed space in the cafe and parking close by. Then after the match we all meet up for drinks in the Pilot pub on North Greenwich pensulia, great pub 1/2 Charlton 1/2 Watford, free parking which suited us as two of our party were Watford fans who had sat in the away end. Wonderful day at the Valley before, during and after...... COYA's.

Yeah Watford selling out the away end put it on restricted sale. Which I can see happening for most Saturday home games this season even with the spate of 1230 KOs (cheers Sky for no home 3pms until the end of September)
Agreed, next two games are 12.30 KO and Millwall on Sept 13th will be 100% restrictive and the club aren't selling nearest blocks in ES + WS, limiting sales. I have a season ticket so its not a problem, I believe Valley Gold allows you to buy match tickets on restrictive sale?

Tickets have more or less always gone off sale 3 hours before kickoff, with them then available to purchase at the ground on the day.

It's not "that fucking difficult" to buy a ticket.
They've been on sale for ages and if your son has only decided to go this morning, but can't be arsed to get down to The Valley to queue up, then he can't be that arsed actually seeing the game can he?
Still, have to find something to moan about I guess.
My son has decided he wants to go today, but the website says tickets are unavailable for sale (despite there being lots of seats free) and when I ring the ticket office it's closed, despite the recorded message going on to say it's open from 10.30am on a home matchday. Result = one less seat sold , and one potential fan lost (have been desperately trying to get him back into Charlton for years now.)

In this day and age, why is it not possible to buy a print at home ticket digitally two hours before kick off?
Why was the ticket office advertised as being open from 10.30am but still shut at 10.50? So I couldn't buy one to be picked up.
We surely want to make it as easy as possible for lapsed supporters to come back? Especially when there were thousands of empty seats. Surely that is something we all can agree on?
In this instance we failed. And I've been working bloody hard to try and get him back into the fold.

I suspect it's the difficulty in tieing up online sales with in person sales at the same time.
Don’t know, but years back they were worried about the system falling over in the run-up to kick-off. Due to the Meire tax, they do have to change the pricing. I’m not sure how far that is a factor.

So for it to be the case that you cannot buy online on the day of the match, and instead they want everyone to queue up and be served which is increasing costs seems odd. Last time we played Leeds (who had sold out) at home I got a ticket on the day of the game.....though I did show a membership card.

I done 4 games last season, had tickets for another 3 away games and had paid train tickets. Didn't do the 3 away games. Even the play off semi final, if the boy hadn't been going I was not going to bother.
