personally find doubles excruciatingly boring. And don’t get me started on the US OPEN doubles
This also reminds me of the time a friend of mine, Gavin Hamilton, played his one and only game for England. I absolutely loved telling people and boring them about his talent for all sports and how proud I was to have had an extremely minor part in his development (he opened for the team I captained at at the age of 12). Gavin had already been out caught for a duck by Pollock off the bowling of Donald and his second innings of the match coincided with me being on the coach of the annual trip to Newbury races organised by Mike Wren (AKA Chirpy and Riviera). I was listening to commentary but he was out for a duck, caught Pollock, bowled Donald once again and had bagged a pair. He never played for England again even though he was a far better white ball all rounder than red and after a mandatory four-year wait returned to playing for Scotland. It hurt to see the way things worked out for him. No one will ever take away from him though the fact that he played for England and Scotland at international level.

Women's tennis is so inconsistent - so many seeds out in the Canadian Open, some quite early on. And Osaka doing well yet she lost to Raducanu in Washington1

Raducanu has just lost the first set against Sabalenka on a tie break (7-3). Raducanu was very much in the set throughout until that tie break - but then Sabalenka has won 14 tie breaks on the bounce.
It was interesting to see that Raducanu's new coach was, at one point, talking to her after virtually every point and many times telling her to stay calm. The umpire even told her off for going to him at the end of a game specifically as the coach is not allowed to get off his chair to approach the player. She claimed that she couldn't hear him so the umpire told her to ask him to talk louder to which Radacanu responded by asking the umpire to get someone to tell him that!2 -

Raducanu takes the second set 6-4 - that's the first time she's taken a set off Sabalenka.2
-
Sabalenka's serve has been poor and she's been all over the place with 51 unforced errors to Radacanu's 32 so far.
3-3 in the final set.0 -
Raducanu just held serve in a 23 minute game after 13 deuces. 4-42
-
She's certainly giving it a good go.
I think the coach is a great appointment - how long do we think it will take for the new coach to make a difference? As I think he will. A couple of months?1 -
So intense. Played so well. Pity she couldn't quite pull it off0

Raducanu served really poorly in the final set and got very few first serves in - it's a pity she couldn't clinch victory over a clearly out of sorts Sabalenka.
The draw didn't do Emma any favours.0 -

I still think she is currently on an upwards trajectory0 -

I have my doubts about the new coach if he's too vocal as Emma has stated in the past she doesn't like that.
Shame the serve started to let her down and she served double faults as earlier she was serving well and Sabalenka didn't even have a break point for many service games.
I didn't see the whole match but did see the 23 minute service game from Raducanu with 13 deuces which She finally won for 4-4.
Raducanu, if she stays fit is a top 20 player but I just have doubts in the slams that her body won't let her down to stop her getting to a Q Final or beyond.
I would love to be proved wrong and her success in the USA slam at 18 wasn't just a freak result when she played 17 year old Leylah Fernandez in the final.

I agree about the top 20. Last year she seemed more robust (well less fragile) and more so this year, so something has changed/improved0 -

Good question about the new coach or should we call him an interim coach !
Francisco Roig had spent time coaching Rafa Nadal so it could be a short but productive period in Emma's career.
We know that with Mark Petchey, a part time coach now and Tennis pundit along with Jane O'Donoghue her former junior coach turned successful financier who took time off work to support Emma, she was at her happiest off the court and appeared happy on court as well.

I can't see she (and he dad) are that bad to work with otherwise O'Donoghue, Cavaday and Petchey (and I think at least 1 other) wouldn't have gone back to coaching her again0 -
Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool have reached the semifinals of the Cincinnati Open men’s doubles. If they win their semifinal they could meet Joe Salisbury and Neil Skupski in the final as they are contesting the other semifinal1
