At first when it was announced I thought the Real Bedford thing would be one of these fly by night takeovers where McCormack was completely over promising with grand statements about making them an EFL club and " Cryptos football club" only to disappear 3 months later.

But it seems like he's made it work and got serious investors too.
  • McCormack is a bit of a ****end but he is making a success at running a football club. The investment they have for a 7th tier side is ridiculous and the rivalry between them and Bedford Town (despite not yet playing) seems to have helped the latter too, who have now gone up to the National League North for the first time in 19 years.

McCormack does a fair bit of good with a decent chunk of investment in the grassroots game in Bedford for both boys and girls but spoils it all with his comments at times.

Their biggest challenge will be their ground. It won’t be up to standard for higher divisions and the mayor is seemingly anti letting them build anything in a decent location in town, whilst it already seems that the Rugby club and Bedford Town won’t be ground sharing. I think they’ll probably do well in the 7th tier, going up first time or if not second time, but the 6th tier may be were they first start to linger for a while

Great away trip for the fans but would imagine it’ll cost the club a few quid.
  • Do Jersey cover all costs for away teams?
  • Do Jersey cover all costs for away teams?
As far as I'm aware yes , same as Guernsey
  • Chelmsford city playing arsenal today (u18s probably) in their last preseason friendly. They've recently come into some money with a new owner, who is a long term fan, and have turned professional. I think all but one player is new, and got a newanager as well. Will be an interesting to see how quickly, if at all, it gels together

The football league need to be held responsible, but that would be far too simplistic.
What is the actual point of this freeloading clan
How can you describe the chairman as being capable
When you say the Football League do you mean The FA or National League? Hopefully the Football Regulator will be able to do something on this in the future. However, I am not sure what the regulators of the competitions can actually do other than close down clubs from competitions. If you recall, at one stage Duchatalet was calling for the EFL to buy Charlton and presumably pass his ownership on to someone else, not sure if there is anything else the regulators could do and I doubt we would want the regulators to become the brokers of club sales at any level.

Maybe others who were involved in the CARD  activity have a greater idea of what could be done in the immediate situation other than expelling clubs from competitions, in these extreme situations.

    https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c24zn043d6qo

As the headline says Lisa Nandy has written to the owner telling him to sell the club.

Also, the academy manager has said all the academy players are still there and won't be released until the club actually folds (which could be any day now). If the sale actually goes through the academy players are likely to get a game as most of the players have left.
  • Great day for Charlton, good day for Hamlet

    Hamlet 4 Dartford 0
  • Shocking result that for Dartford. Welling lost 4-2 at Cheshunt, so not much better.
  • Farcical end to Welling v Aveley tonight. Wings were 1 0 down in the 6th minute of 7 in injury time and the floodlights failed. After about 15 minutes to ref blew the final whistle and I thought the game was ended but apparently he abandoned it.

    Welling were fucking awful

It would be ridiculous to have to replay that game.

Yeah, although would be funny given all the time wasting Aveley were up to. In saying that, the ref had no control over it and was hopeless all night. If you thought refs in league 1 were poor, this guy took it to another level.
  • Bit belated but good result for Ebbsfleet Saturday away at Dagenham.

I vaguely remember being at Ebbsfleet vs western supermare (?) for a midweek game. The floodlights failed at some point and there was a 30 min wait until they were fixed only for them to fail again and the game was abandoned. Got to feel for those away fans. God knows how late they got back home.

  • Who can forget the maidstone away game In the cup when the floodlights failed a few mins from the end. Spookily enough, I saw ebbsfleet there around the same seasons and they failed a few minutes from the end on a couple of occasions when the fleet were winning.

Fortunately they were restarted, coincidence not so sure.

It kept them away from Weston for a bit longer, it's not the best of places.  Every cloud and all that.

  • A new takeover deal has been agreed between Morecambe owners Bond Group and prospective buyers Panjab Warriors in a bid to save the beleaguered National League club.

"This agreement reflects the willingness of both sides to compromise in the best interests of Morecambe FC, its supporters, and the wider community," Panjab Warriors and Bond Group, led by Whittingham, said in a joint statement., external

"It paves the way for continued stability and a positive future both on and off the pitch,

"Final legal documentation will now be prepared, with immediate steps being taken to inform key stakeholders, including the National League and the club's management team.

"Both Panjab Warriors and Bond Group would like to thank all parties involved for their patience and support during this process, and we look forward to a new chapter in the club's history."

The new owners could be having a press conference and I'd still have doubts about it... Whittingham is ESI level dodgy and I hope this is actually it.

    Have their players hung around?
  • I didn't have the time to go to Bristol today, so off to watch Dartford play at St Albans. Two teams expected to be fighting for promotion...
  • Lewis Page playing for St Albans today.
  • Another 10 man defeat for the Darts. I couldn't see whether the handball was unlucky or a deliberate attempt at preventing a goal scoring opportunity,  but going 1-0 down and down to 10 men just before half time killed the contest.

Proper non league ground . The excellent Mad Squirrel craft ales helped numb the pain,  while they also had Chicken George.
