JRS is a player who instinctively cuts in on his left. Of his many talents I don't think versatility was one of them when he played for us; he was all at sea playing up front for us on the few occasions he did it and he's definitely not a wingback. If you replaced Campbell with him you'd be robbing him of his best move which is cutting in on his strong foot to attack the goal. Both Campbell and Tanto do that from the left on their right foot at the moment. So if you wanted JRS to play in the wide striker role he'd either have to be cutting inside on his weak foot in a way he's not as comfortable with or you'd have to flip the line-up and have a more defensive right footed RWB - which we don't currently have - and take Apter out as well as putting a right footed more attacking player in place of Edwards on the left. The balance we have with inverted players at RWB and on the left up front is currently very important. Maybe in the time since he last played for us JRS is much more comfortable playing across the pitch but it would be interesting to see if we were able to get the best of him in our current setup. He's definitely a 2 footed player, I think 4 of his 15 goals for us were with his right foot but he's clearly more comfortable operating from the right hand side and can look very ordinary when he's not in his preferred position.

Can't see JRS.. Apter started so well, and wouldn't put something in front of Campbell...

I would say wingback, and another big forward is what he is looking at.
Wing back is obvious, on strikers NJ has said we have enough, so I could only see another one joining if we have a long term injury or someone leaves (excluding Kanu on loan).

I wonder if someone like JRS would be an exception though, being seen as too good to turn down. If he comes in on loan I could only se him playing TCs role.
If (and it’s a huge and very unlikely if) we got JRS I think we’d probably change to 3-4-2-1 and have him on the right of the 2 and then Carey/Knibbs/TC on the left behind one of our strikers

I’m not sure we’d be willing to pay the finances required for JRS, not that we can’t afford it but are we really willing to pay what could be a 7 figure loan fee and a decent chunk of wages on a loan player? I think we are willing to pay fees for players we think we can develop and increase their value, not for a player that we will only get on loan.

JRS is one of those players you sign if you have the chance and figure out some of the issues after I think. He's too good a talent for us to turn down. He could work well as one of the two 10's behind a lone striker in the system we saw in some of the pre season friendlies, he would have freedom to drift

Even if Palace sign a direct replacement for Eze, it may take time for them to settle in. They'd be mad to let Rak-Sakyi go at the moment.
Sounds like it will be El Khanouss from Leicester which is a bonus for us tomorrow!!

If JRS goes anywhere it will be deadline day.
Rumours are that Spurs are trying to hijack the move for El Khanouss.

So I fully expect him to sign for Palace.

Didn't think I'd ever say this.....but we have no need for JRS, unless Raptor got injured.

Cover for Ramsay is the position I think NJ wants. Anything else is a Brucie Bonus.

I would love JRS back at the valley kid has magic In those boots on his day.
  • On a sort of related note I watched Aldershot vs. Eastleigh on Wednesday evening and was surprised to see Jordan Cousins playing for Eastleigh, wasn't he in L1 last season? a really quick fall and tbh he didn't really stand out either, not sure we'll see much of him again.

Even stranger was that five or so seats down was Louie Watson, watching his brother play (Luke, ex Palarse) sadly for both of them he didn't get on.
  • JRS where would he fit in IF we signed him.
tough one to call. TC role maybe. Be great if we get him …sort of transfer that would happen on last day transfer window

Made 28 appearances for Cambridge in League One last season, and 35 appearances the season before. He's only 31 years old, but not sure what effect injuries have had on him.

Is there a real link to JRS or is it just some posters fanaticising about an unlikely return ?

What I like about this window is the early business

Originally I felt in January Nathan had trimmed the squad too much, in particular I did worry about REG being sold to a promotion rival

This time any deadline day signings will be boosts to an already strong group

In terms of loan I could see them being the likes of JRS who would greatly benefit us in terms of quality or other players like Lembikisa or Duffy who are in their last year of contract where like Terry Taylor with Northampton a loan would see out their time with a parent club and could potentially sign full time for us afterwards.

Surprised Sheffield Wednesday haven't tried to emergency sign AMB. Sounds like they're signing Ethan Horvath from Cardiff instead.
loads of other keepers out there, champ standard

Started by someone who worded it as if they had heard we’re definitely interested though.

Have Reece Burke and Z.Mitchell in terms of  wide centrebacks who have the technical quality in order to shift as a right back in possession to cover Ramsay. Besides Apter and TC we don’t have another player who can fill in a winger/wingback role at the club. A well rounded wingback who can go forward to still offer that threat in possession but also has some defensive capabilities who we can sub on for Apter last 10 mins would be the signing we need the most

It is obvious who we are going for: Shinnosuke Fukuda. The final piece to complete the jigsaw. Charlton and Kyoto Sanga are in a staring-down match to see who cracks first. If Kyoto  do not sell him before his contract expires they will lose a large fee (maybe 550,000 dollars). Our good start to the season should convince Fukuda he would not be joining relegation fodder.

JRS was outstanding for us playing in a very mediocre team…would love to see him back with this group of players

Indeed I do. Thank you, Callumafc. What a stupid mistake. I have corrected my post above to spare the time of any other alert and helpful posters.

What a Mickey Mouse league that must be, to allow two players with the same surname to play in the same season. The EFL would never allow that.

Maybe I’m being greedy but hopefully we could bring in a cb on a season long loan to allow Z.Mitchell to head out and get a full season of consistent football to aid his development as well as a RWB

Don't see that happening as a PL club would want guaranteed minutes and that means displacing Ramsay or Jones

Yeah, I expect Chapple made the same mistake. Easily done.  :s
