Another poor night in Europe for Celtic.

Can't see them getting anything in Kazakhstan.
Fans were chanting 'Sack the board'
    Sums up the fanbase really.

    13 titles in 14 years.
Won 21 of the last 27 domestic trophies available.
Started this season with 3 wins from 3.

Draw 1 game and they want to sack the board. Clowns.
The fan base are well aware that the team can probably coast along in the Scottish Premiership and the domestic cups and carry on winning them.

What they aren’t happy about is the perceived lack of ambition of the board to spend the money they’ve been generating for the last few seasons from domestic/European pots and major player sales on building a squad that can compete in the Champions League. The current board seem content to be just one point ahead of Rangers, but it seems obvious that Rodgers is just as frustrated as the fans.

Celtic could probably spend 50m and not be able to compete in the Champions league though, because they're going up against teams who can spend more than that on 1 player.

The other night though they still had a 9m striker and brought on an 11m sub.

It’s more about building a base squad over several seasons and scouting for those relative bargains, which they have managed to dig up previously.  Yes, they’ll sell them on and will likely miss out on the bigger fees paid in other leagues (think Van Dijk, Jeremiah Frimpong), but they seem to the fans to have let the manager down this close season after losing a number of key players in recent months.  The extended CL format gives them great opportunities, but the board seem oblivious to that.

I was surprised when they signed Idah. I’m an Irishman. I want him to do well, but he was never worth the fee paid and that’s been evident so far.  Haven’t really been paying attention recently, so not sure why Engels isn’t starting.

Clean sheet win for Celtic yesterday.

Good domestically, not good enough in Europe.

Lucky to even get the draw as St Mirren were on top for long periods of the 2nd half and missed some great chances.

I will say that Ibroxonia has to be one of the best chants in world football atm.
  • Madness how Rangers had 3 months to decide on a manager after Clement left and they've ended up with Russell Martin. He seems more focused on possession and the number of passes his team can make (usually backwards or sideways), than actually trying to get it forward and create chances.

Still think this is a side that needs at least 4 players of decent quality especially with the Jota and Johnstone injuries. It’s not good enough from the board to cruise along and simply be happy that Rangers are continuing to look a mess, so another title looks likely. I’m glad the fans and manager are putting pressure on the board to open the strings on a well filled purse!

He’s not concentrating on defending that’s for sure. Watching Charlton and Rangers defences every week is like chalk and cheese at the moment!

Was shocked to watch Martin’s post match interview where it was confirmed Igamane refused to play, even though he was on the bench.

Awful performance by Celtic in both games, Madeda missed a chance at the end of normal time. Young Kairat keepers saves 3 pens in the shootout and go through.

Not shocked tbh. Body language was shocking. Terrible indictment of Scottish football when Celtic are their best team by a mile.

Going forward I wonder if Rodgers walks as he, like the fans, is hugely frustrated by the lack of investment.

Celtic are leading by example, 0 (zero) wins out of 5 in Kazakhstan now.

At least they (and probably Rangers) won't be facing the nigels next. 😃

If it was in League One, yes. But they are in League Two and we are in the Championship!

Almaty have spent big in the summer and are hard to beat at home.

    Told you Almaty were good.

Terrible result for Celtic football wise and even worse financially, especially with Rangers guaranteed to progress to the league stage
  • Celtic entered qualifying a month after Rangers and still got eliminated first.

The fifth consecutive time that Celtic have failed in the qualifiers and now Kairat Almaty join the illustrious list of teams who've eliminated Celtic in recent years:

    Legia Warsaw
    Maribor
    Malmo
    AEK Athens
    Cluj
    Ferencvaros
    Midtjylland
    Kairat

  • There is some good news for Celtic though, they now go directly into the Europa League phase so they don't have to play any more qualifiers.

Good' to see the Celtic haters in good form again. Doesn't support rangers though.  I hate rangers but couldn't tell you who they played last weekend.

Celtic have put in an appeal to UEFA after it has emerged the part time gas fitter who scored the winning penalty tonight wasn’t CORGI registered 😉

Corgi registered gas engineers were around when the first rangers were. It’s gas safe now.

Must be hard now to win the major European trophy only One Scottish club has won. Plus not many English teams.

Six English teams (more than any other nation) have won it a total of 15 times. Not too shabby is it?
