So Soton set to sign an attacking midfielder for £10m that isn't JRS.
Leaves the slightest of possibilities that, if no one else buys him, he can join Charlton on loan
The move also opens up possibilities for Alex Gilbert at Boro to fill the vacant slot in their midfield.1 -
A blow for Boro that, losing a key player after a good start to the season0
-
Anyone else think we should look at someone like Caleb Taylor at West Brom?0
-
Should’ve gone for Hills now at Stockport13
-
West Brom have already rejected 2.5M from Millwall for Taylor and Hills cost Stockport 1M with 1M addons and a sell on. Far too much money for a squad neither of those get in over Jones or Ramsay3
-
Burkes a weird one because from the outside it doesn’t look like a ‘bargain bin’ signing. The knowledge that he had severe injury record was there. The whole thing is so od2

Taking your point, but with free transfers it will no doubt be interesting how much is spent on a player's signing on fee etc.

Actually nothing odd about it. Just another member of the Nathan Jones mutual support group for Luton rejects.
Nathan Jones took such a pasting as manager at Stoke and Southampton that he has developed a siege mentality, stubborn and closed to advice from outsiders. "My way or the highway". He wants to surround himself with yes-men and is more comfortable with those who remind him of his glory years at Luton. This is such a common pattern with public figures, politicians, entertainers and military leaders it is easily recognizable.
Sometimes it works. Stalin got the job done. Hitler didn't. It has worked for Nathan Jones so far. Much as I would like to see us at least try to play football, I realize it could be very dangerous to change strategy now. I think we are stuck with it, at least until the end of the season. I do not think we will get relegated, and we do have a very remote chance of making top 6. Keep your fingers crossed!17 -

Garrymanilow said:I wonder if the plan had been to keep Alex Mitchell but he wanted to go and play somewhere. He was useful to have around as someone who could play RCB or CB and is generally fit. That allowed him to cover for Ramsay, Jones and Burke, all of whom have injury history. If we're going to properly cover Ramsay though it will need to be someone who is naturally comfortable covering RB when Apter goes forward as well as being strong. Can't be that many of those knocking about, especially one who is happy to be a backup. It's not as easy as it was in L1 where you can take an unwanted Championship defender where their parent club doesn't really care if they play or not. Premier League sides will be wanting their youngsters to play and Championship sides are less likely to let you beg poverty and improve your side potentially at their expense2
