IN all fairness, you would say that. You're not the one having Millwall come to town.MillwallFan said:

Sorry to hear this. Can I ask you how long ago that was? Can only say our away crowds are nothing like they was 10 or 20 years ago. I’d be very surprised if there was any trouble around this fixture in a couple of weeks. Of course both clubs still have a ‘risk’ group, and I think they’ve had a few clashes over the years (and I recall some straight going Millwall fans got attacked by some Charlton in a pub at London Bridge a few years back, resulting in prison sentences for the Charlton fans so it can work both ways). But by and large this isn’t a fixtures that gets the hooligan element excited. They’re still about. But very much in the minority these days. And they rarely cause trouble in or around the ground. When it does happen it’s usually miles from the ground and with like minded individuals. I’ve said on here before, I can’t remember the last time I saw trouble in or in the vicinity of the ground at any of our away games and we more often than not will mingle with opposition fans.jose said:The only drag is that having been on the receiving end of violence from Millwall fans in the past (the only other time was ironically Luton fans) I will avoid the train and seek a different journey to and from the Valley.
The attendance number isn’t an issue for me, the only issue is trying to get a point or three from the match.
So I can understand people's nervousness to travel on crowded routes.5 -
Bizarre perception. I've been to every Charlton Millwall game in the last 30 years including friendlies and there's almost always some kind of agro whether it's in the ground or outside or both, and primarily (albeit not exclusively) instigated by Millwall fans from what I've seenMillwallFan said:

Last time we had a 'proper' home game against Millwall, five odd years ago, there were a crew of about thirty boozed-up Millwall yobs circling the ground looking for trouble, surrounded by a bunch of cops. I did feel sorry for those 'specials' having to manage these fans. I don't recall violence at the train station afterwards.MillwallFan said:

Not violent as such, but before the game I was standing near the Sam Bartram statue, when three anonymous fans caught my eye. The disabled gate was opened up to let a wheelchair through and these guys hurtled through, elbowing everyone aside. Later, at half time, the same group ran around the pitch and jumped into the away end to cheers from the Millwall fans. As someone who used to crawl under the turnstile as a kid I shouldn't really get pious about fans getting in for free!1 -

Maybe I’m being naive, I drive to the vast majority of games I go to so I rarely see what happens at the stations. I can only comment on what Ive seen and I haven’t seen any trouble at any of the Millwall charlton games I’ve been to in recent years. Actually, tell a lie, when you had the bottom tier at The Den a few years back your fans threw a flare on the pitch and a couple of seats, smashed the bogs up and made a half arsed attempt at ‘charging’ the home ends down in the corner. That’s the closest thing I’ve seen to any trouble but it was hardly a return to the bad old days.paulsturgess said:

I just did a rough count up.follett said:On a long car journey last week so had a look at tickets left on sale (yes my life is very dull) and it was under 5k with all blocks open so was surprised to see the 20k mark only hit yesterday. Is a sell out no longer 27k or is the 20k sold missing 1000+ through friends family and freebies?
Curbishley Stand holds 6,000 and I estimate 4,000 left.
West Stand holds 8,000 & I estimate 3,000 left.
So looks like 20,000 sold.4 -

It was a long time ago, certainly before we moved from the Valley, and at a time when trains had individual carriages and slam doors.MillwallFan said:

As the train left Charlton station the window next to me smashed and sent flying glass through the compartment. I had a number of facial cuts
Somebody in the next carriage had leaned out and used what I assume to be an iron bar to smash the window, I don’t think they knew if my compartment had Millwall or Charlton fans in it.
At Blackheath station I got out and opened the door to their compartment I suppose to remonstrate and show my cut face, at that point three or four Millwall fans surged towards me, bizarrely yelling ‘When the red red Robin starts bobbin along shoot the bastard’.
Faced with that, and being outnumbered I scarpered out of Blackheath station, (dabbing my face with a ‘hanky’ which we all carried in those days).
Millwallfan I am not blaming you for the incident, but it has put me off, for life, mixing with Millwall fans on any train to and from the football at Charlton.
I know we have lumpen support too, but I proceed in my own way because of my experience with Millwall fans.1 -
Don't worry, just because your name is 'Millwall Fan', nobody is taking your slightly moving narratives as the current status quo.1

On the 14th you'll almost certainly not be on a train with any horrible spanners, I promise you that.
1 -
Are they that obnoxious though? They may cling to being poster boys for The Football Factory, but every town with a football club has an element, up and down our leagues and country.
My prejudices are long standing and very local. It don't help of course having such a piss poor record on the pitch against them. In my formative years, the whole football violence thing was much more formulaic, nowadays you are just as likely to get twatted by a coked up imbecile on any night out, miles from a football ground. Society has stabilised at a much lower standard of general tired thuggery.
Still have a unshakeable genuine dislike for them though, that'll be taken to the grave.6 -
Most spanners will leave the ground after about 60 minutes when they go 4 nil down.ElfsborgAddick said:TootingRedArmy said:

Not had a gate for a Millwall home game that high since 1972That was the last time I was there in the flesh. Three days late getting into the country because Heathrow had 3mm of snow and had run out of brooms. Took an hour to get my suitcase and when I got to Paddington it was well past midnight so I had to get a black cab to Eltham. The driver was a Spanner. Of course he was. And unknown to us, Christian Dailly was going down with flu, which for me explained his slip to let whoever it was in for their 4th. He’d been excellent all season up to that point.None of that sort of shit is going to happen this time. Is it?1 -

There was plenty of talk about how expensive our matchday ticket prices were this season, but I don’t think many expected we’d see over 22,000 at each of our home games so far.1

Leicester had 22k and I suspect etc this next one will be around 24-25k so the average will be over 22k1 -
I would luv it KK style to see the naybors streaming out after 80 mins 3-0 down. However, reasonable defences and two powder puff attacks suggest to lump on a 0-0 bore draw. On the positives, should be a cracking atmosphere.2
