50 for Jaydn1
-
96-0 (24) at close for a lead of 105. Very mature effort from the two youngsters that has put us in a great position.
Jaydn 55* (74)
Dawkins 35* (72)5 -
One of the massive benefits of giving the likes of Jaydn, Ekansh, Dawkins and Curtiss these opportunities is that, because they have come from the same successful age group, when one does do well than the others will think "well if he can do it in the first team level then there is no reason why I can't". It's somewhat premature to think that they are all going to have long and successful careers at this level but, given how bereft of homegrown talent we have been in recent times, they've brought some definite hope.7

The parallel with his batting style and physique, at 6' 4'' plus, means that he is, potentially, a clone of Crawley. The low centre of gravity for most keepers, especially standing up, is a big plus and the reason why we rarely, if ever, see in professional cricket keepers that tall - Gilchrist and Foakes, both at 6' 1'', are the tallest I can think of but the difference is that those two have always been regarded as keepers whereas with Kent 2s and England U19s Dawkins hasn't been taking the gloves. The first step would be for him to start doing so for the 2s next season.
Dawkins might get in the side as Crawley's replacement when the latter is away on England duty but, that said, there is no guarantee that he will sign another contract with us, at least not a long term one anyway. If and when he loses his England place, I'm not sure what the incentive for him, financially or otherwise, for him to remain with us in Div 2?
It would also be good for Jaydn and Ekansh to develop their bowling in the 2s too because a side can never have too many options. Ultimately and in two or three years time, having those two in the top seven plus Evison, would enable us to go in with an extra batter or three frontline seamers and a spinner / two of each.1 -
110-1 (30.3) for a lead of 119. Rain has stopped play. Dawkins was caught at slip for 36 (81)
Jaydn 67* (100)
Ekansh 0* (4)1 -
Jaydn bowled an over after the resumption for 74 (105)
117-2 (31.2)1 -
More rain
131-2 (38.2) for a lead of 140
Ekansh 5* (27)
Evison 8* (19)1 - Sponsored links:

They are back out and 40 overs left to play but the forecast is poor for the rest of the day by all accounts0
-
Evison caught behind for 26 (51)
155-3 for a lead of 164
Ekansh 9* (45)1 -
170-3 at tea and leading by 179
Ekansh 13* (58)
Joe 11* (19)
I'm not overly concerned about Ekansh's run rate. He does possess gears anyway but he needs to occupy the crease for any number of reasons - conditions are very difficult and if he does have one fault it is that lack of concentration at times. We also don't know if Compton is going to be fit to bat so see out today and see what tomorrow brings when conditions might improve.1 -
Jaydn (19) and Dawkins (18) are the second youngest pair to have ever opened in the history of the County Championship. The youngest pair were Greg Smith and James Taylor for Leicestershire against Essex in 2008. If we were to add Ekansh (19) then that is the youngest top three ever in the CC and we have probably broken the record for the top four too with Evison (23). I think we can stop there though because Joe Denly is in his 40th year and will increase the overall average from 20 to 24.3
-
Joe Denly caught behind driving at a ball for 19 (36)
188-4 for a lead of 197
Ekansh 18* (77)1 -
Finch out LBW for 4 (3)
196-5 (59.5) for a lead of 205
Singh 22* (84)1 -
Play stopped once again for a combination of bad light and drizzle
206-5 for a lead of 215
Ekansh 30* (95)
Rizvi 0* (5)
Whether Compton will actually bat is not known but if there is no further play today then that can't do him any harm if there is a chance that he can do so.3 -
That is close of play.1
-
Following a delayed start, play resumed some five or so minutes ago - a six from Ekansh has been followed by both Rizvi and Parkinson being dismissed for ducks
212-70 -
22 off one over from Stanley (9 wickets in the match) with 18 coming from agricultural swings from Quinn plus 4 leg byes
238-7 (66) for a lead of 2471 - Sponsored links:
-
Quinn has shaken hands more times with the square leg umpire than any batter known. On one occasion he earned marks of 9.1, 9.2 and 9.4 from those judging his backward somersault in taking evasive action from a delivery from Stanley.
In contrast, Ekansh, at the other end, has been immaculate in defence and in support of Quinn's assault.1 -
50 for Ekansh2
-
276-7 (74) at lunch for a lead of 285. There are probably 55 overs of the day to come.
Ekansh 55* (129)
Quinn 37* (34)1 -
Quinn out caught behind for an entertaining 42 (38) to give Stanley his second 5-fer in the match and in what is his only second FC game
283-8 (75.3) for a lead of 2920 -
Ekansh's gritty innings comes to an end as he tries to pull out from pulling a short ball and is caught behind for 60 (139). Compton has finally come to the crease.
289-9 for a lead of 2980 -
293 all out as Cohen becomes Stanley's 11th victim in the game
Lancashire have a target of 303 off 51 overs0 -
Quinn has Jennings caught behind by Finch - the second time he has taken his wicket in the match
17-11 -
