  Duolingo is very good, I use it for the Portuguese.

  I think it will be a help for you to spend the odd weekend in Amsterdam to speed the language process up.

  You need to something else alongside Duolingo imo. Also a piss take that you have to have the premium version to unlock the 'why was i wrong' feature.

  My dad was in India/Burma during WW2 .
  He was fluent in Urdu. And could write it as well.  

  He would leave some of the shopkeepers he met open mouthed with astonishement when he spoke to them. 

  He would even chat to his army mates in Urdu.
