Woolwich Ferry Roundabout

Just a heads up to those who travel via the Woolwich ferry roundabout either for match days or general travel. Apparently there is going to be major road works on the roundabout starting in mid September for approximately 10 months. The highways people have advised the Ambulance Station staff to be warned of potentially long delays during the work.
Also noticed that the A2 around the Black Prince area is due to have roadworks lasting 11 weeks starting soon.

Less than that .Karim_myBagheri said:I reckon you could walk it in 20 minutes0 -
I trust it is negotiated port to starboard.0

Given the ridiculous speed restriction on the lower road (which even buses seem
to struggle with) this will just make that route even harder than it already is.2 -
I old enough to remember the ambulance station on the roundabout.0

Expect delays into 2027. Kinda cool it will create an unbroken segregated cycle lane all the way from Woolwich to Tower Hill.1

I can clearly see the house where my wife grew up in and her parents lived until a few years ago.
I spent much of my time there as well between the ages of 19 & 25.0 -
Mr Tatters goes to one of the art workshop places by the Thames roughly opposite the road leading down from Woolwich Dockyard Station. Any suggestions for somewhere he could park and walk to avoid the inevitable delays?0

I think you need to be a bit more specific as to what time of day and what inevitable delays you are talking about.Arsenetatters said:Mr Tatters goes to one of the art workshop places by the Thames roughly opposite the road leading down from Woolwich Dockyard Station. Are you saying it's across (north) of the dual carriage way, the other side of the road to Francis Street?0 -
Yes - next door to the Thames barrier. He gets there for 9 and leaves around 3Covered End said:Arsenetatters said:Mr Tatters goes to one of the art workshop places by the Thames roughly opposite the road leading down from Woolwich Dockyard Station. Work is now in full swing on major changes to streets between Woolwich ferry and Charlton to construct a cycle lane.
Work is underway at various points along the Woolwich Road between the Ferry Roundabout & Anchor & Hope Lane, this will cause long delays for motorists & bus users in both directions on matchdays & the Valley Express coaches may have to drop-off & pick-up at another location, also it will be difficult for pedestrians to cross the road before/after matches due to barriers now inserted on the central reservation.

We already struggle to make progress in our Ambulance when on blue lights between Charlton and the Woolwich flyover because of the single lane in each direction because the buses stopping on the road.
I bet the 20 or so bikes that will use those cycle lanes will be very happy though, so that’s ok.
I may have to try to get a Road tax rebate at this rate because we are losing Road space at pace. Maybe it’s time to make cyclists pay to use the roads seen as though they are getting more and more tarmac now days.12 -

The council need voting out, they are purely in it for their own dogma.
They don't give a fig for the views of the resident's of the borough.3 -
I’m a resident of the borough and I’m very happy that cycling is being taken seriously by the council.12

Gas works on Charlton Road too with single file traffic and temporary lights.0

The far west end of the road is a mess but the new bit will be fine and isn't reducing the number of car and bus lanes so will work much better. The car lanes will be a bit narrower but there is plenty of space for that.cafckev said:We already struggle to make progress in our Ambulance when on blue lights between Charlton and the Woolwich flyover because of the single lane in each direction because the buses stopping on the road.

It may be in jest, but, suggesting cyclist pay "road" tax is a daft argument. Apart from road tax doesn't actually exist.... It's unenforceable even if it was introduced and would cost more to run the system than it would raise. Traffic problems in London are down too many cars. As for your point on road space... LOL!4 -
The centre island is being removed to allow for the cycle lanes. The remaining road width will be reduced.arthur said:

If coming from Woolwich via bus to the ground give yourself extra time for the coming months2

Is it taking it seriously? 18 months to put in 2.5km of cycleway? Losing parts of bus lanes along the route, forcing them to share one lane with all other traffic? Perhaps if they actually got on with the Greenwich Masterplan, they could have included a cycle way that didn’t interrupt one of the main South East London traffic arteries. As it is, all they are doing is clogging it up for everyone.iainment said:I’m a resident of the borough and I’m very happy that cycling is being taken seriously by the council.5 -
They are doing it in all the other arteries of London. Now it's southeast Londons turn. Enjoy.TelMc32 said:

Any roadworks cause interruptions, I cycle from Plumstead up to Shoreditch via Woolwich and Charlton at least 3 times a week the sections without cycle lanes are dangerous for cyclists. Having cycle lanes will encourage more people to cycle which means fewer cars on the road and consequently freer flowing traffic.TelMc32 said:
