What has happened to Welling? I was hoping the drop down a league might allow the club to stabilise somewhat, buy they just seem to be on a permanent nose dive and will end up in the SCEFL at this rate.
There's clearly issues behind the scenes but I don't know enough about them to comment. On the pitch, not one player was there last year. That was always going to take time to gel but with a manager in his first job it's looking like it's taking even longer. Going forward Wings look alright but some of the defenders are atrocious. Recruitment issues again with around 25 players signed, about 6 of them leaving already
Even given the shocking decision to not send off the Ramsgate player for the tackle and Welling being down to 10 men due to the players reaction, they were awful last night.

Agreed. If anything they were better after the sending off which says quite a lot
  • It's just a bit sad really, to go from a National league south playoff final in 2019, to the bottom of the Isthmian prem in a few years.
  • What’s happened to Dartford?

A few years ago a players for Bath City had a horrendous head injury after "smashing" into the hoardings.  Eventually the player "recovered" and returned to playing but I believe soon after had to retire.  Sadly there is a repetition of history and a former Arsenal U21 Billy Vigar is in an induced coma after suffering a head injury during a match for his club Chichester City.

    Died apparently.

No doubt the savings top level clubs have made from FA cup replays will be finding there way to his family.

Welling finally plan on doing something regarding park end concrete wall.
Just fucking annoys me all the wealth at the top end, yet lower down you have to go cap in hand for these basic provisions.

  • Wonder if we will hear anything from Arsenal?

    Extremely tragic. RIP Billy.

This incident should lead to immediate reform at non-league stadiums. No club in 2025 should have a concrete wall just a couple of metres from their pitch.

This is a wall at the stadium where the poor kid collided and eventually died, i'd love someone at the FA to tell me how that is in any way deemed safe and passes an inspection?

Visiting teams should refuse to play there (or any other ground with concrete walls/barriers) until it is knocked down.

Hemel Hempstead have got an area that concerns me. They've got a brick wall near the tunnel area and if that's not bad enough, it's not very high so it's not too far fetched to think someone could go flying over it, and the ground behind it is a couple of feet lower down than the pitch. Every time I see it I think it's got multiple ways of hurting someone. Not that I would dare mention it to that particular chairman!!
  • In the biggest shock of the night, Dartford had a player sent off.
  • Went to Flamingo Park, where I take my daughters Puppy to go swimming. That's more fun than tonight watching Hamlet at Cray Wanderers.

A bit of Charlton connection, Alan Pardews project Chris Dickson came on for Cray half way through the first half.

Hamlet failed to come to grips with the extra bounce of an artificial pitch and were two down after 17 minutes and three down just before half time. Hamlet got one back when they sent ageing Danny Mills on and promptly got one back, but they continued to be pretty useless and Cray eventually running out winners 4-2

This guy seems to play for a different team every season.
  • Aveley v Gateshead and Spennymoor v Billericay in a regionalised cup draw. Sounds about right

That is absolutely ridiculous, surely the midlands should be the furtherst north and south these teams should travel.
I remember reading the programme when we played away to Halifax in the FA Cup, I saw the table to see Bishops Stortford in the National League North.

The reason is because quite stupidly the draw was done before Aveley and Billericay played their replays. No idea why they couldn't just wait a day or two for the replays.

What is bizarre though is Aveley's opponents were Halesowen which is near Birmingham, so surely that tie would've made far more sense for the Southern section draw?
  • The FA need an equal amount of teams in each half of the draw. Unless they start regionalising further, then this sort of thing is always possible.

Big part of of the enjoyment of cup football is going to places you'd never normally get to.
  • -10 GD after 10 games is grim.
  • FA Youth Cup tonight....

    Erith Town 1-0 Dulwich Hamlet

Another great win from the Dockers Youth. Have some really great kids on our Pathway scheme.

I was there - Hamlet Youth were taught a bit of a lesson. Enjoyable match, though, and a good crowd - a decent night out for a fiver!

Rod Stringer the second Welling interim this week!
  • Must be mad.  At Hadley FC to watch Dartford in the FA Trophy.  To be fair it's fairly close to me, and a new ground also.
  • To cap a fairly grim afternoon,  Dartford crash out 2-1. A very poor second half performance,  Hadley being completely on top.
    Dartford look desperately ordinary.
