Blackburn at home a bell weather game

So far this season all our home league games have been special attractions.
A first game back at this level, a game v a newly relegated Premier League club and a local derby.
Despite the 12.45 KOs all three have seen 20k+ attendances and a great home atmosphere.
Now we face Blackburn Rovers.
We no due respect, they are not attractive opposition (I'm sure Rovers fans' feelings are mutual).
But Rovers are just the sort of side we need to beat at home if we want to consolidate in the top half of the table, especially with two away games ahead.
Not that it will be an easy game in any way but it will be a real rest of how we are settling in back in the Championship.
It will also be a test of our core support. Can we keep up that 20k figure if the Jimmy Seed is not sold out and there is no extra edge to the game? Yes, many of us go to see Charlton regardless of who we face but that is not everyone.

18,500 is guess, would love to see more.3

I think we will get just over 20k. I think the Sheffield result helped and there is a real feel good factor around the club at present. Long may it continue.6

Watford was 21.9k. The drop in away support will have that to almost 20k, and I would be very surprised and impressed if our home turnout matches that day, so can’t see over 20k but here’s a hopin’ 🙏1

I suppose one thing in favour of this is the 3 week wait til I next game and some might not want to wait that long so be more motivated to turn up for this fix!1

Wasn’t it Blackburn that wanted to sue us for the cost of meat pies for a postponed game during our financial woes in the Eighties?

If it was anything near 20,000 tickets sold or the possibility of reaching over that number, then you can bet that the club would have announced it by now on the website and the socials

Nowhere near 20k sadly. Though after being off the table for Millwall, there should be a fair freebie dump for this one. A lot of tickets in my block have switched to not available in the last day1

I doubt we'll make 20k but I think the gate will be an indication of the level of our support for a "run of the mill" game.
All the replies have focused on the gate but equally I think the result will also be a measure of our level playing wise.0 -

First game I'm able to get to since the turn of the year. It did not go unnoticed that the moment I stopped going we soared up the table and started to play something resembling football again. So I am open to financial inducements to stay at home for this one.3

Hoping we’ll hit 20K but not sure the club have pushed / promoted it as much as they could. We’re very much in a phase of needing to build support, both locally and via fanbase connections.2

Their club site says we only gave them 2k….and they were still available to buy yesterday. That said, it’s one of those games where I would expect walk ups on the day from the away fans that live and work down here. Won’t be a packed JS though but might be noisier fhan the Library team fans that were here last time, though TBF I can’t imagine any away team will have quieter fans at The Valley this season than Millwall did.Rothko said:How many are Blackburn bringing down? If you are avoiding going Charlton tomorrow to instead watch the woman's Rugby WC final on TV at home, id suggest never bothering to go to a CAFC game again.

Three memories for me on Blackburn.
Blackburn at home was my 2nd ever Charlton game. (My first game I went with my Dad), when we lost to Preston at home (I think we lost 3-0). I was a Liverpool fan back then.
Saw my best mate in Hospital with another friend, I think Charlton were winning at half time 1-0.
Steve and I knew that we could get in for free at half time, we left our other friend in hospital. When we got there, Joel Garner scored for them in the 2nd half. I think the game ended 1-1. (Had to wait until December 1992 to finally see Charlton win at home against Portsmouth and by then i was a converted Charlton fan, thanks to Marc (and Back to the Valley campaign).
2nd Memory - Brad Friedel. I couldn't believe what I had just saw. Thankfully, i think it was "Clause Jensen" who scored at the other end. I quietly felt sorry for Brad because, he was so close getting his fingertips to save the shot.
3rd Memory - FA Cup. Darren Pitcher, deflected shot. Had they won the league the previous season?
Getting on the coach after the game. Everyone on the coach had a beer on the coach straight after celebrating. The police just smiled and ignored us. Onto Man Utd next round.

Blackburn Rovers are much more enjoyable opposition than the likes of Stockport/Oldham.
Memories of us v Blackburn include the 2004 3-2 win at home.

Remember watching us against them in the 70's, they had a winger by the name of Noel Brotherstone from memory, small tricky winger and
just around the time I was able to start watching appreciate who the oppositions main threats were.
