That’s what you call winning your battles. Brilliant performance from the moment he came on and won his first18 -
All the subs looked incredibly up for it ans none more so than Gillesphey...Great to see him come on and stake a claim for his place after no seconds and then score3
-
Immense character, to be out of the team and come in to put a shift like that speaks volumes.
Delighted he signed a contract here, we are bloody spoilt having an option like Macca with the other left sided defenders we have.
From the likes of Terrell, Hector, Lavelle, etc, to Lloydy, Bell and Macca, levels.4 -
Seriously can see a few of our current squad in the Prem, they have taken to the championship no bother.Braziliance said:Immense character, to be out of the team and come in to put a shift like that speaks volumes.

I've seen several mentions of the song about Gillesphey's head, can someone tell us the tune and the words?0

You have to say that with players like Gillesphey, Tanto and Leaburn on the bench I doubt too many teams have better subs than us in this league.
The difference between a couple of seasons ago to how we are today is enormous.4 -

I think quite a lot of clubs will have more expensive benches, probably more talented in terms of how they are with the ball... BUT none of them will have a bench so hungry, hard working and powerful and that is what you want from a modern substitute.blackpool72 said:You have to say that with players like Gillesphey, Tanto and Leaburn on the bench I doubt too many teams have better subs than us in this league.

Great performance my Macca on Saturday. So happy for our Wembley Hero.1
-
Macca was outstanding from January onwards and his goals and defensive work went up so many levels. Losing the shirt was harsh and against what Nathan normally does when players are playing to a high standard in the team.
Competition is great for the fans and we pick our favourites and Bell is a Championship player but so is our goal scoring Wembley Hero.
With Josh turning his ankle, Bell goes to LWB and Macca slots in next to Lloyd with the chasen Ramsay coming back in for Burke who shouldn't play too many games in a row with his recent injury record.
Great to have choices which wasn't the case the last time we made a good start in the Championship !

I don't think Macauley Gillesphey even dreamt he had this in him two years ago12
-
Commitment to learning and training hard has seen him improve tremendously since his last Championship spell.
He's a real fox in the box and also so strong!6 -
Possibly my favourite player of this bunch. Continues to improve and love that despite looking so slight he wins all his physical battles, has expertly mastered the art of the shoulder barge as well.1
-
Huge credit to him for not sulking when he didn’t start the season too6
-
Delighted for him... Like Lloyd Jones before him, made a mistake up at Blackpool and hasn't looked back since - Half wondered if he'd be up for this level, given we signed him from Plymouth, and was disappointed when he lost his place to Bell (understandably given his performances).
Was even slightly concerned a bit about Macca coming into the team: "Jones has dropped him for a reason" I thought, whilst he was a big disappointment against Cambridge - But instead he's picked up where he left off last season.
I just hope he's happy being a "bit part" player again when Edwards returns, we need a squad not just eleven players.2 -
Always had my doubts about him and still think he is a bit slow but my god the boy has the heart of a lion and wins so many duals, his passing is great and he has a real knack of knowing where to be in the oppositions box. Keep it up Macca, legend status is creeping up!4
-
Last month he was on the bench, this month he is a starting player and our (joint) 2nd highest goal scorer.
Definition of a cult hero.4 -

He was superb tonight. Carry on like that and he will be undroppable.
And his knack of scoring is a very handy habit to have.2 -
I’m so happy for him to have come in and staked his place! He is a great lad! Amazing thing what confidence can do!People will easily forget the mistake he made at Blackpool and how NJ could have easily silenced him out the squad…instead he praised him after saying he will turn it around. A lot of credit needs to go to NJ for Maccas transformation!0

Bloody love this bloke. Absolute warrior.4

It’s a great question. Macca and Bell have both been outstanding and work well together, Edwards might need to earn his place again. Feels mad to say thatFortune 82nd Minute said:

With the way Jones likes to play think he would resort back to Bell and Edwards when they’re both fit but it’s nice to know if they get injured there’s no zero need to panic. Can’t remember the last Charlton player who looked absolutely useless to start and then suddenly became brilliantFortune 82nd Minute said:

Steve Mackenzie springs to mind, arrived overweight and absolutely hopeless in 1987/88, but somehow turned it around to become a fabulous player for a couple of seasons.Crispywood said:

Depending on who you ask there was another left footed, free kick scoring centre half we had who might fit that descriptionCrispywood said:

@Garrymanilow any chance of a hint? Or given that I'm utterly dreadful at names these days, just explaining outright?Garrymanilow said:
