Upton Park: I was in the West Ham end when Melrose scored after 9 seconds at Upton Park. That was weird. It was like nobody knew the game had started. Result: 1-3 win.
City Ground: With a Forest supporting mate in 98-99. Youds with the goal. When he scored, my mate turned to me and said “You fucker” 😂. Pretty boring game otherwise. Result: 0-1 win.
Stamford Bridge: A mate got me tickets near the players tunnel the year we were the game where Chelsea got crowned champions. I think that was when they got a penalty when Lampard was fouled about 3 feet outside the box and they let Makelele take it because he was leaving I think? Might be misremembering that though. Result: 1-0 loss (I think)
Carrow Road: My dad’s wife’s family are Norwich and he got tickets through them. Andy Hunt Hattrick. Me and dad sitting on our hands with his wife’s family sitting next to us screaming blue murder. Awkward. Result: 0-3 win.
Highbury: Behind the goal for that mental goalfest where we gave Vieira, Henry and the rest a big scare. Arsenal fan at work couldn’t go, so I had his ticket. Don’t know how I disguised my allegiance in that game. Bonkers match. Result: 5-3 loss.
Goodison Park: Girlfriend at the time was Everton. She got us tickets. We went 4-0 down and after each goal I hid my allegiance less to the point that I sat sulking with my arms folded when the 4th went in. Quite a few around us realised but they were enjoying taking the piss. Then we got a penalty and as Graeme Stuart was taking it, all the scousers around me were saying “We’ll let you have that one lad, cos it’s Stuart and he’s a good lad.” So when he scored I had a little celebrate and the mickeys had a good laugh at me. Result: 4-1 loss.
Whaddon Road. This hasn’t happened yet. I live in Gloucester and my Sister and Brother in law have just moved down and he’s decided to start going to Cheltenham games. So he got me a ticket for the League cup game on August the 8th. Hopefully it’ll be fun! Result: ?-?

I sat in the Wimbledon end on Saturday. The bars and kiosks are so much better than those at the valley. There is a club owned bar with trained staff that can pull a pint and the kiosks stay open for the entire match1

Several times...from memory;
Luton late 80s when they banned away fans. A Charlton fan living in Aylesbury managed to get a few of us "fake" IDs. Think we lost 1-0.
palarse mid 90s? - I won a pair of tickets to any palarse home match and obviously picked our game! We lost!
West Ham 2000 - My in-laws are all Hammers and I had my mother-in-law's season ticket for the Boxing Day 5-0 thrashing. I later found out, that was my Xmas present!! I was very quiet at the dinner table!!
Arsenal 2001 - I was given my Gooner mate's season ticket at Highbury for that 4-2 win. Luckily I knew his mates next to me and got away with standing & clapping (not cheering) Jensen's goal. Home fans were very frustrated how wasteful their team were in the first half. We could've been 5 down in the first 10 minutes!
Portsmouth 2005 - A season ticket Pompey mate (Dan Kemp's Dad) got me and another mate tickets as we had sold out. Won 2-1 with Rommedahl scoring the winner.
Tottenham 2006 - The company my brother was then working for had a client with a box in the Paxton Road End. Got beat 3-1 I believe. Didn't enjoy the crap the home fans were spouting about us.
Wolves 2012(?) - My mate Andy is Mike Bailey's son and he's a Wolves fan due to his Dad's time there. He managed to get us some freebies in Main Stand. Drew 1-11 -
I’ve done the complete opposite and stood in the away end whilst Charlton were at “home”.
Having arrived late to Selhurst park and the home turnstiles wrere closed in the AW stand. So went into the away end with the Liverpool fans.2 -
most memorable one was at Anfield, I think we won 0-1. When we scored I stood and cheered with the Lass telling me to sit down and keep quiet which was back up by a strong Scouse accent from neighbour telling me similar but not quite so politely!0

another one was in my teen years away at Derby. I think we won 0-1 , the pitch was a quagmire and our goal just, only just, trickled over the line, from Leary I think. Anyway I celebrated, and had my bobble hat taken.0

Leicester away c 2000/2001. My oldest daughter was at university in Leicester and acquired two free tickets. As I knew as much if not more about Len Glover than the surrounding Leicester fans we were safe. Not that there was a lot to get excited about as we lost 3-1.
For the youngsters Leicester paid Charlton a British record fee for a winger of £80,000 in November 1967. Len is regarded as a legend at Leicester as well as being in our Hall of Fame.1 -
QPR last season, apart from Apter scoring, hated it.0

I went in a box at Villa when we lost 2-0 I think in 2006.
And then with the same mate in the away end for pre-season friendly when we lost 1-4 at home to Villa, I think for Solly's testimonial, just after we got promoted in 2019. That was odd - hardly any Charlton fans there and I had no intention of going but he was dead up for it - Villa had also just been promoted and their fans were flying, think they sold the away end, Grealish playing etc, so he dragged me in with him. Was an odd feeling being in our away end, and also with it packed out but then what felt like zero home fans in our areas!
Think they're the only occasions I've ever watched us outside of being with our own supporters.0 -

Cardiff away 1978/79, a 4-1 victory. I and another Charlton fan had driven down from Warwick Uni for this one. Cardiff had had some trouble with their floodlights, so the game kicked off at 2.15 and we arrived at the ground just before kick off. We asked a steward for directions to the away section. He vaguely pointed at an entrance. It turned out we were in the section next to the away area and blokes around us were chucking coins at the Charlton fans. Needless to say we kept very quiet.
Ironically, a few months later, I met and later married a girl from Cardiff. We now live about 15 mins drive from the Cardiff City Stadium. I have already arranged to see the game in September with my Cardiff supporting brother in law.1 -
Only once, at Craven Cottage, some time after we got relegated, not sure if we were in Championship or League 1 at the time, but it was a cup match of some kind (can't remember which one). Not an overly threatening crowd, easy enough to sit on my hands as we lost something like 3-1 I think.The most disappointing part was not being able to join in the chorus of calling Danny Murphy a wanker. I seem to recall soon after we (or everyone else) were doing that they got awarded a free kick or a pen? And he was adamant he would take it as he wanted to score so badly against us for that. He got told to give it to someone else though ha ha ha.

A couple of times at Chelsea in Corporate. One was Stamford Beach and the other when Lisbie scored in the last minute. Sat next to Michael Grade.
Spurs a few times. One when Sir Chris scored.
Everton - lost badly. Strangely was sitting behind some boys with Blackheath tops on
Leicester - corporate, left with 5 minutes to go and we scored. Same day England won the Rugby WC in Australia

My dad is an Orient fan and we did hospitality for the game at Orient in 2025 that we won 2-1 in injury time. Was sat right behind the dugouts, was beautiful seeing NJ giving it back to the Orient fans after they’d been giving it to him all game. Vile club1

As a kid in the 70’s it was the thing to do. Make a bit of noise and get moved around to the away supporters bit, hopefully in full view of your school mates.As a 14 year old I do remember standing down the front of the halfway at millwall and being gobby to an Italian gentleman. That went on for about 30 seconds before another man joined in and told me what he was going to do. Life lesson learned.1

Back in the mid‑80s, a friend’s dad knew Charlie Vaughan, Charlton’s physio, and thanks to that connection we ended up with complimentary tickets for every away game. Oddly enough, I can only remember one match where we were actually in with the Charlton supporters — Nottingham Forest. Every other week we found ourselves tucked in among the home fans.It was the season Charlton left The Valley for Selhurst Park, bouncing between what was then Division Two and Division One. Despite it being right in the middle of the hooliganism era, I don’t recall any trouble. We were always seated with the players’ families and friends, which gave the whole thing a strangely calm, almost cosy feel.Over time we got to know Peter Shirtliff’s mum, dad and sisters. They were Wednesday fans through and through, but they still turned up to most matches — whether the team were playing up north or down south. A proper football family, and a lovely part of those memories.1

The Old Den in the 70’s I was in the funny little bar at the top of the terrace on the half way line when I heard a loud groan, went outside and pushed my way back onto the terrace and asked what had happened, that c***t Flanagan has scored was the reply, whilst I was dancing inside I thought it prudent to reply what a t****r and live to tell the tale.1

Highbury, Upton Park, Roots Hall, Layer Road. Worst though was one of my very rare sojourns to Selhurst Park. We were the 'home' side, but I arrived late and in a rather merry state. Somehow got lost and ended up in the away end with the Villa Supporters. They scored just as we walked in, I didn't have the capability to get myself out of there so stood in there whist they scored another to round off a miserable afternoon. Should have just turned myself in to a steward but wasn't capable of thinking that straight.0
