Only been in The Shipwrights about twice but thought it was a great boozer, although will swerve it now as it has a spoons as a neighbour.
And they didn't chuck out Charlton fans. They actually shut the whole pub. Absolutely ridiculous.1 -
Popped in the Richard 1 in Greenwich today for lunch with my daughter.
Food was nice, but it was more like a creche than a pub, with kids screaming and their parents not telling them to shut the fuck up.2 -
Has there been any more news about the Anchor and Hope.0
-
Not that I’ve heard but I saw a cryptic comment from the landlord of the Pelton on a mate’s insta post about the pub which got my hopes up. But not seen anything since.0

Correct. Bank holiday weekend and they just said fuck it we are closing. Charlton fans very well behaved apart from some jolly singing. Market porter etc closed them selves off too. Thank goodness Southwark Tavern up the top had the sense to keep letting anyone and everyone in.Off_it said:

COME ON NOW, There are lots of people who desire nothing more than eating a steak so dense light bends around it or a roast that would make a homeless person at christmas say "nah your alright, ill see what KFC throws in bins later".Croydon said:

Also you undersetimate the value of a show with your drink, where else would you be able to see a a family of 14 all decked out in their finest Sport's Direct tracksuits with 12 kids who all have names that are a variation on "Kenzie, Kenzo, Dane etc", stare at ipads whilst their parents polish off their 4th WKDs at 1.45pm on a tuesday afternoon. Whilst some would prefer to pay £1 or 2 more a pint to have a more sophisticated experience surrounded by fellow intellectuals to discuss current events, politics and the latest developments in the STEM field. No judgement though guys.9 -
Bizarre that publicans complain about industry then turn away well behaved customers. Especially on a playoff day when most will realise its transient.Budington said:

The Dickie 1 / Tolly was a great pub until its conversion to a restaurant. Spent many many nights down there.Off_it said:Popped in the Richard 1 in Greenwich today for lunch with my daughter.

No judgement though guys. And it's more than "£1 or £2 more". Particularly in a lot of them between Monday and Wednesdays when the spoons do promotions. One of my mates has CAMRA vouchers and he can get a pint for around £1.50
I have told him to save some for me when I'm over in March.0 -

If you guys do manage to buy it it’ll be a great time for a rename, something like The Red Robin perhaps 😉pauleec said:Afternoon all. Coming up on 11 years a member and about to make my 3rd post, so hoping this won't count as spam. I'm part of the group trying to get The White Swan in Charlton Village out of its current state and into community ownership. A pipe dream possibly, but we're giving it a go. You can read more here if you are curious: https://www.whiteswanmusicandarts.org/.
As part of our pre-crowdfunding efforts, we're shooting a promotional video, and we're looking to get a crowd outside the Swan at midday this Saturday, for - I think - what will be the final shoot of the video. Be great to see some lifers there!
