Lloyd Jones 2.0
As the previous Lloyd Jones thread has been closed and doesnt look like its opening up anytime soon, I thought I would start a new one to discuss his current form and potential interest in him.
He has been incredible this season and is clearly playing the beat football of his career, which also inevitably worries me about interest in him come January.
Do you think clubs will come in for him in Jan window and if so how much do you think he is worth? Also what would him leaving do for our season?
PS apologies if starting a new thread isn't allowed not sure of the rules regarding this.

He is 30% of our team and we'd be lost without him, as shown by his absence last season.
An absolute colossus of a player. He deserves a more catchy song, even though his song is great.
A larger championship team may come in for him in January, and definitely in the summer, if he stays healthy.

It is quite interesting how his game has developed. I mean, he isn't a youngster where it can all click after a season or two but he has found genuine class and leadership to go with his existing qualities. I say interesting as does this happen when a player is in their late 20s that often? I would say he has found another 20% to his overall game. Maybe Nathan Jones can take a lot of credit for it. Maybe the role suits him where he leads the defence. Anyway, he is now arguably as good, if not better than any defender in the championship. If we could swap with any other championship club, would we? I certainly wouldn't.
This statement isn't bias based but he has clearly found his niche at Charlton with this manager. If he were to go, it could be detrimental to his career.1 -
He has been awesome and if a PL club came in for him before we get there you have to consider it a well earned move. The only caveat to that is this side of a full season in the Championship it’s hard to see that PL club being one of the top ones and, basically, all the others should be avoided like the plague when the January window opens because they will be fighting relegation whether they realise it or not. Those clubs won’t be as nice an environment as the one he’s at, plus ending up at a club that could be back in the Championship next season when the dream that we might just go up hasn’t yet ended would be plain daft even if the money will be a lot higher.0

Can’t see us getting any realistic offers and can’t see him leaving anyway.Best CB for years5
-
Key player in our team - such a solid performer.1
-
Can’t see him going anywhere particularly if we are in the mix come January. What has improved beyond recognition is his aggressiveness, he literally makes it his mission to attack and win the ball 1st and if he doesn’t the opposing player invariably ends up on the floor. Since last season Lloyd has been absolutely immense and the most vital player in our side, This has to be NJ’s influence.5

Rock solid player to have in the centre, being the centre of a 3 really suits him down to the ground, covers his flaws and plays to his strengths, which is why we’re seeing him flourish. Great character too.0

Can’t help but think back to that period when he was injured and NJ decided not to play him during the end of the season so he could fully recover. Things like that might seem insignificant but it was quite a large leap of faith. At the time it wasn’t the same Jones in the heart of defence and in hindsight he was probably lacking confidence. Coming back fully fit and with whatever inspiration NJ provides completely changed the trajectory of his career, both with us and in general5

Don’t think there’s much danger of him leaving. He’s been unbelievable and defensively he’s shown he’s one of the best at this level. He’s stepped up brilliantly to the championship, but the premier league is another thing entirely in terms of the demands with the ball and physically. These days I doubt there are many (if any) centre backs in the premier league that are slower than Jones0

He’d be my player of the season if we voted right now. Yes Carey has been excellent but we’re so used to Lloyd Jones performances that we take it for granted almost.7

Damn, read the thread title and thought we'd found a way to clone him for a minute15

Really wouldn’t surprise me despite turning 30 if he gets a Wales call up6

Jones leads the table for winning aerial duels in the championship this season .... Keiffer Moore is second.AFKABartram said:Saturday will be a great test against Keifer Moore
Has the potential to be a Pearce v Mitrovic clash4 -
Not the greatest compliment mate, I’m 51 not Welsh and would get to play for wales!! But yes he is surely being considered.😂AFKABartram said:Really wouldn’t surprise me despite turning 30 if he gets a Wales call up0 -
As long as we have got competitive ambitions in the Championship and offer him decent terms I don't see why he would go to a 'bigger' Championship team. If a Prem team wants him then let them pay big money.2
-
He's probably enjoying being the Main Man, he's clearly respected and popular with the other players and in the form of his life. I'd be very surprised if he went anywhere any time soon.0
-
Too slow for the Prem these days, upper championship is where it's at.
And I say that absolutely loving him and the way he plays btw, but these days premier league managers want their centre backs to be like Van Der Ven, Saliba, Konate etc. they need to be physical, but rapid0 -
He has gone to another level this year with his performances. Seriously impressive and it's been a long long time since we've had a CB performing week in week out like he has been. Wins everything in the air and so aggressive in pushing up to stop balls into the opponents striker. Proper CB.0

A lot of credit goes to nathan jones -
NJ defensive structure is right up there imho.
Prem even high prem league level.
I mean Man City couldn't breach it.
He has certainly coached LJ to a higher level.

Slightly amazed he only started playing regularly about 5 years ago. Plays like a lad with bags and bags of experience.1

Think he's only in the side because he's got the same name as the manager!!!
I joke, he's been excellent this year.0 -
I think there's tonnes of quality players out there who haven't managed to stand out until they found the right club, the right manager and the right season to prove themselves. Two teams that come to my mind are Wilder's initial Sheff Utd promotion team and Howe's Bournemouth. Sheff Utd had a backline of George Baldock, John Egan, Chris Basham, Enda Stevens and Jack O'Connell. Every single one of those players were journeymen who had taken in at least a bit of L2 football and then suddenly they were finishing 9th in the Premier League and innovating the overlapping centre back formation. The setup just worked for them. They couldn't sustain it in the Premier League after that first season but 31 year old Chris Basham dominating experienced Premier League forwards was insane to see. I think Egan must have been about 27 and only a few years removed from playing for Gillingham. Bournemouth as well getting a good Prem tune out of Charlie Daniels, Simon Francis, Steve Cook and Tommy Elphick was mad. I think Daniels must have been around 29, Francis 30 and Elphick 28. Suddenly top level players out of nowhere having looked in at least one case like one of the worst L1 players we'd ever seen. Just look at Nathan Jones' old Luton team as well to see how the likes of Bell and Burke's fortunes fluctuated based on who was running the show.MuttleyCAFC said:It is quite interesting how his game has developed. I've talked about momentum on here before but it's incredible what that first season after a big success can do for a club. As long as the key parts stay the same players can play well outside their usual range for an extended period. We had it with Bowyer before the injures set in and we're seeing it now with Jones. I think the only way Lloyd realistically plays in the Premier League is if he somehow goes up with us, like Neil Etheridge somehow playing all 38 Premier League games for Cardiff despite being Neil Etheridge. I don't think there's a Premier League team who will look at him and see a saviour, and given his age I don't think that many teams would push the boat out for him at our level, most likely tap him up and wait to get him on a free if they can. There's so many Premier League academy graduates out there who had the talent but just couldn't make it happen for themselves until the right setup unlocked them finally, and they can lose it as quickly as they find it, that's what separates them from the real top players3 -
Being acknowledged as a talisman is a singular honour for a player.
Closest we have had in recent years was George Dobson, but Lloyd Jones fits the bill perfectly.
I mean last Tuesday he won every single challenge he contested as far as I remember, phenomenal class footballer.0 -
'a bigger Championship club' oh this exists huh0

He’s not been named in their upcoming squad. Which is mental considering they have Dylan Lawlor a 19 year old CB who’s played 7 senior league games for Cardiff. I am more than happy for Lloyd to be resting but he definitely deserves a call upAFKABartram said:Really wouldn’t surprise me despite turning 30 if he gets a Wales call up0 -
I agree it’s mad, unless he’s made himself unavailable due to his injury issues? That would surprise me thoughfollett said:
