So, here's the thing. In the mid-eighties, I may have caught a bit of chart music in someone elses car or or passing a radio, I may have even seen a few minutes of TOTP, but other than that I was totally immersed in fifties music. I know and like Word Up, but that was a bone-fide top five hit and had a bit of hutzpah about it . I just listened to Candy and I can say if I have heard it before I quickly forgot - it's no Word Up - sorry but it's the kind of bland nothingness that I still just switch off from. That it just scraped the top thirty would suggest I am not alone in that opinion?
As for Afro-Caribbean music. I listen to shedloads of the stuff. Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, Cab Calloway, The Flamingos, The Spaniels, Ruth Brown, Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers, Lightnin' Hopkins, Etta James, Big Al Downing, Jimmy Jones, Sonny Boy Williamson, Lois Jordan, Anisteen Allen, Sister Rosetta Tharpe and dozens and dozens of others...
What's wrong with the Hokey Cokey anyway?

They are all in the same pond. I spent years DJ'ing and at some point at pretty much every wedding or birthday I did I'd have to stick the following wanker bangers on
Apache
Saturday night
Macarena
Oops upside your head
Candy
Cha cha slide
The time warp
And the procession of the sad acts who spent too long in front of MTV leading the charge and dragging reluctant participants in.
Never minded Apache or Time Warp to be honest and whilst Candy has its merits you can't play two Cameo tracks in the same evening and Word Up is the bigger banger2 -

Royal Mail. Received a flyer from the club today, advertising the match against Southampton. Admittedly I wouldn't have gone anyway, but delivering something after the event is not good enough.
Last week I asked for next day delivery of a parcel, as I knew I'd be at home. It wasn't delivered until the day after.0 -

Podcast cliches are really getting on my nerves. Mostly American things.
"That's a great segue..." - it was until you acknowledged it, now it is no longer a segue.
"I'm just curious..." - your question is not more interesting because you used the word curious. Just ask the fucking question. Q&As on podcasts are especially bad for this. Nobody just asks a question anymore, or says they're wondering or interested to know. They're all 'curious' which sounds smug as fuck to me.
Ending every sentence with 'right?' thus forcing whoever they're talking to to agree with them. It's on the NY Times Daily every day. Kamala Harris is especially guilty of this. It's like a Derren Brown mind trick.
Also on the NY Times pod, "That's exactly right".
Richard Osman starting his statements with 'listen,' as if we weren't already listening. To his fucking podcast.
On the same pod, Marina Hyde saying "In lots of ways" or "in many ways" when I think she would struggle to name more than two ways. She will also fail to complete a sentence and interrupt herself more often than not.
Honestly I don't know why I listen to podcasts. They just annoy me.3 -
Not sure how it became so but very much is an Afro Caribbean thing. Comes out at bbq's, or basically any time they have people together. Was introduced to it by my African family members but friends bring it out all the time and are always impressed when I know it!MrOneLung said:
