I appreciate that yesterday was not his best day, but I do think the one-on-one miss is being overplayed. His first touch was pretty good, to get him away from the defender, and he got a strong shot away on target. Yes, he could have made it a lot more difficult for teh goalkeeper, but it was hardly a disaster.
Exactly where I am on it. At least he made the keeper make a save, unlike Leaburn last week.

All the one on ones he’s missed have been on his left foot. Would guess he’d have scored at least one of them if they’d been on his right foot

I’m sorry but there is absolutely zero chance a professional footballer let alone a striker should be missing this. Like Tanto but he seriously needs to figure out how to put the ball in the net sooner rather than later

Better Strikers than Tanto have missed clearer chances than that

Zero chance? Blimey I’ve seen much better strikers than Tanto miss easier chances than that.

Carey didn’t on the follow up though, which if anything was an easier chance than Leaburn’s last week.

Ahem. Cunha just missed an absolute sitter for United at Villa Park. And he cost 65m.

He should probably score but I think you’re being harsh. It’s a bouncing ball which isn’t clear from that screenshot. That definitely makes it harder, and the fact he’s running at full pelt on to it and it’s on his weak foot

He lacks finesse but makes up for it in work rate and power. If he can add a touch more finesse, he’ll go up a level.

What a daft thing to say.
Every striker has probably failed to beat the keeper (he didn't miss, as in put it wide) on at least one occasion.

It's amazing how many people appear to think every striker should score every chance.

Yes, i agree with this - it wasn't a bad miss at all - on his wrong foot, in a rush to get the shot off before tackled - not easy at all.

Anyone remember the Andy Jones miss at Oldham? If my memory serves me right.

Maybe I’m overreacting but would probably be less inclined to feel that way if he managed to score one of his other 3 1V1’s.

If our strikers had a 100% success rate on chances to goals they would not be playing at Charlton … even Haaland don’t have 100% scoring rate ….. Oloafe played well last few games MOM at Birmingham .. always say only worry when striker not getting chances to miss ..

don’t need a 100% conversion rate but he’s got to get better at finishing we talk about TC’s lack of end product and rightly so but he’s not even had the quality of chances Tanto has had

I liked him up until this afternoon but jesus he was bad this afternoon... did just about everything wrong... reminded me of Ali Dia's appearance for Saints... just running around aimlessly, and when occasionally he ran towards the ball he looked very confused and it bounced over him

Changing your opinion of a player you liked based on one performance is nuts.

I genuinely don’t really understand what he brings, if anything, to the squad.

    Target man, winning headers ❌
    hold up play ❌
    quick feet and mazy dribbling❌
reading the game, being on the last defenders shoulder ❌
    a poacher/fox in the box❌

Hard to see what we’ve payed £1+ for?
Mbick and Kanu offer more, albeit perhaps not much more, but more.

Essentially another Gassan Ahadme, whilst not being treated as such
  • Dreadful scouting and a waste of money for me.  Can't help but think we bought him on the back of one good performance against us last season.
Like a lot of our players he is a willing trier and you can't fault his effort but he is a L1 player and no way good enough for the Championship

Okay as a sub to come on and cause chaos against tiring defences but for me he hasn't shown he has the quality to start

It's not one performance... he's been poor for ages, was terrible against Oxford... but today's showing really took the biscuit and is more the straw that broke the camel's back and made me realise that my previous enthusiasm for him was misguided / primarily based on hope, the fact he seems a good lad, and a few encouraging moments off the bench in the first handful of games... but actually he's been toilet for ages and I'm struggling to see him being able to improve much

    hope he proves me wrong!

if i was to look for hope for olaofe it would be from a complete change in playing style... the football we play makes all our strikers look dreadful so maybe he could look better in a different style/system but I can't see that occurring

I like Tanto and was really pleased we signed him, but he has been really disappointing overall. He hasn't made the step up required and some his attempts at passing/shooting/crossing are laughably bad

The problem isn’t our system Godden has proved that. Our issue is we’re focusing on developing young forwards into good footballers to try and turn them into million pound assets rather than trying to sign the finished article. Our system doesn’t benefit forwards as much as defenders so we need attackers that are the finished product and can adapt to different games rather than forcing them to be something they’re clearly not ready for TC has no end product, Leaburn can’t use his body effectively and lacks pace , Tanto has no composure or technical ability and Kelman has limited aerial and hold up play Godden you can’t pick a big weakness that’s the difference
  • Love his attitude and he runs through brick walls, but he really doesn’t have it in front of goal, does he?

I don’t agree with that, and Godden proved it only a division below. I believe some of our strikers have more to offer if there were able to see
the ball a bit more. Tanto included.
