    Good to have that continuity as well, yes he didn't play many minutes but having been part of both the playing squad and the coaching team he would hopefully be quite helpful as a "bridge" between the two if needed.

    I think if he can teach some of our youngsters (Leaburn, Mbick) some of the dark arts, he'll easily earn his money...

    And I'm sure they'll all appreciate having a sounding board to gripe to...

    Great news, another piece if the promotion puzzle stays with us. Our attack third really improved throughout last season, especially in 2025. Let's hope we gets some more limbs in for him to work with

    Or teach them how to put it into the back of the net , more pressingly

    He’s highly qualified as a coach and liked by pretty much everyone it seems. Good to have around the camp so I think having him onboard is a no brainer.

    Our set pieces today were truly truly woeful and have been for some time.
    I do worry at times that Jones's 'jobs for the boys' do cost us a lot of the time.

    Cronyism is only going to hurt us! 

    Our set plays have been dire since Brayne left - and we’ve just let someone else absorb the responsibility rather than kick on an appoint. The same goes for replacing Will Abbott.

    Phil Chappell equally hasn’t covered himself in glory so far

    We're have been woeful on set peices since James Brayne went.

    Don't think he is a bad coach, but just on Brayne's level of set peice coaching.
    Goes to prove that set peices in today's game are complex to master. Think we need another one.

    Said this on the match thread but Brayne went onto the PL so was clearly coaching way below his ability. Some of that is down to learning off NJ. I still think we could do with one more experienced coach though

    The amount of short stuff was criminal. 1-0 down and we ended up back on our halfway line. 

    We will need our set pieces to stay up. They have to improve

    TBH its piss poor that a professional footballer hits the first man once, let alone multiple times in one game.

    Granted he’s not orchestrating that, but he will be controlling the fact we have a random player always taking up a weird offside position whilst we constantly lump it to the back post

    Which is a tactic that works. That player creates chaos when the line drops and creates a free man, we just don’t find that man often enough

    Hard to judge how effective that is though if the free kicks are easily cleared time after time.

    I am just pointing out the difference in quality. Brayne always got praised for the details he puts into his work.

    Big Hylton fan, so hate the fact some fans is labelling him coming in as jobs for mates, but you cannot deny that Brayne does have an impact on a club.

    Sunderland were poor at set plays and look at how many points they have won, due to set plays, since Brayne came in. (Even winning a derby).

    Hylton replacing Brayne is a bit like replacing a great goalscorer with a youngster from the youth team.

    He will be in charge of who takes them though and surely should have pulled Bree off duty today. Our attempts at short corners were also dreadful.

    My sons u13 team takes better corners (short and long) than we managed today. Woeful organisation.
