These couldn't be more there for the taking if they were wrapped up with a pretty Christmas ribbon. If we don't win this we're fucked
  • No complaints from me so far. Playing the better grittier football. How i like it. 100% support.

Happy with that so far... Feels like the opposite to the Norwich game
Not the greatest of Football matches, but unlike Friday I feel we're edging the game a bit more
First goal is going to be so important
The Championship experience from the likes of Bell, Burke, Costello and Berry is showing

Certainly an improvement on Norwich, but we all know what’s absolutely nailed on to happen if we don’t take one of these chances…

Like half time vs Norwich we’re still in this.

Need to step up this time. We’ve been better going forward but want to see us create a bit more and improve that final pass/cross/shot.

Some of the fluency of play and passing from both sides is very league one
Bit harsh, we have controlled large portions of the first half, Portsmouth nowhere to be seen as a danger first half...

Decent first half. Problem is that I cannot see Burke, Berry,Bell, Kelman or Rankin-Costello lasting much past 60, after that it is pot luck with the subs.

JRC looks a upgrade on Docherty or Anderson, begs the question why hasnt he played more
  • Sounds like another poor Bree performance. Get Apter on.

Sorry but we've got to be winning this, not settling for a f**king draw

  • Feels like the deciding factor for us, if its 0-0, is how we manage the game when we need to make substitutes
The likes of Bell and Burke, maybe even Kelman and Costello have had limited game time of late, so I dont see them surviving 90mins, the two former names will surely be replaced by Gough and Gillesphey at some stage.

Both teams rightfully cagey with us edging things overall.

We can certainly win this, need to keep doing the same thing but find that little bit of quality!

Also someone surely has to have a word with NJ about Bree set-pieces

Don’t think Jones will want our two wing backs to be TC and Apter.

He’s always tried to balance an attacking player on one side with a defensive minded one on the other side. Edwards and Small, Edwards and Apter, Bree and TC…

If you want Apter wide right, you have to figure out how to make the left hand side more solid.
  • couple of back pass shots from Kelman , he looks well rusty
they fall to my man Berry and there's a goal

It does feel as though Jones has focused on this one, over Norwich and Coventry with his line up - Go for the win tonight, put Gough and Gillesphey back in on Thursday, with Bell at Wing-Back, and treat Coventry as a bonus match (especially with them losing today) - The risk is, we still lose even tonight by prioritising this game, but you cant prepare for everything.

Yeah I talked in the pre-match about needing a box-to-box linking midfielder. I didn't even count JRC in my reckoning as I thought NJ wanted to use him as a holding player. But tonight he's been picking up bits and bobs and looking to link play.

More like that and we win this. They're there for the taking. We just look a little nervy in the final third. Settle down, take that one extra touch, have that one little moment of quality, and the goal will come. Expect 2 and 3 to follow after. COYR.

If he wants to win he will. Also, it’s his job to coach players.

I don't get it.  When Bree first arrived his crossing/freekicks where great.

I think every header Coventry has won or made in the middle of the park has ended up at a Pompey foot!
  • Think there's a lot of overly negative comments here. Play is most fluid since Nov, passing it around well and the transition play has been up there with the best we've seen from us in this league so far.

JRC offers much of the movement of Anderson, but his pass selection is dramatically better. Berry not as dynamic as Carey, but his positioning and nous has been helpful in linking our play and getting it to Leaburn and Kelman.

Some great through balls aimed at Leaburn, just need those at Kelman now.

Guessing at 65ish  it will be Oloafe for Kelman, Docherty for JRC, Carey for Berry, Gillesphey for Bell and Gough for Burke.

dont see us winning this tbh reasonable first half but didint put ball in net
  • Pompey are so poor. They are absolutely and utterly there for the taking.

We are dominating the game but as so often, we have no punch up front. If we can just find a goal somehow we can win this.

But if we gut mugged here, then I really do fear for this season.
  • Such a good first half, any "upgrades" need to be right time right player, hopefully Bell can stay on, but changes will be crucial second half...

We have to score. They're more open than Michael Appleton's Charlton in the 88th minute.
