    So now it's January.

What're the plans for Apter long term?

Not sure why we signed him if it's clear he's in the Campbell mode of not fitting in stylistically with our formation plans.

Least with Campbell Jones has tried to shoehorn in wherever he can, seems Apter doesn't benefit from the same goodwill.

Shame really as I thought he was one of the bright spots from our early good form this season.
Apter has a better chance of playing wing back when we have Edwards and/or a new LWB available. Understandably NJ won’t start with two wingers at WB.
The initial 8 games Apter was dropped completely for, we had Edwards and Bell at LWB.

Which coincided with Bree having his best form for us?
I do hope that Costello is proving to Apter that you're not necessarily a lost cause under Jones, I dont think he's that petty

Which is why I said it would give him a better chance of playing. At that point, Bree was getting goals and assists, and NJ probably wanted more from Apter off the ball

He’s be getting more game time if we had to fit defensive wingbacks, it’s just too unbalanced atm for him to start or come off the bench…

There’s a place for him and we’ll see more as the season goes on

Gets back into contention as soon as we get a proper LB/LWB in, Bree’s current form gives him a chance was unfortunate when Bell was fit originally and playing LWB that Bree was moving like Prime Dani Alves
  • Rumours of being loaned to Bolton and, rather unbelievable, us
    No thanks.

I notice Scott Banks has swapped Blackpool for Barnsley. Does this create an opening for Rob at his old club?

Blackpool playing 352 this season under Evatt doubt he fits there. Cozier-Duberry has just got injured for a few months so Apter to Bolton considering they have a lot of money to cover wages + a potential loan fee makes a lot of sense

Something not right when a player who was POM when he had a run of games looks like being loaned out

With how out of form our midfielders are couldn’t we try him in the 10? Hesitant to slot him in at RWB because Ramsay was covering his defensive duties a lot earlier in the season allowing him to get forward.

Still sits at the top of our expected assists and big chances created with barely any game time..

It's been clear for a little while that Jones will do almost anything else other than play Apter now. There were rumours of a fall out when he was dropped but we don't know much more than that. I have suspected for a while though that even if we got in a proper LWB or even Josh Edwards returned we still wouldn't really see Apter at RWB despite what Jones said about balance. Apter had dipped a bit when he was dropped, he scored against QPR but cost us defensively and then he wasted so much possession when we were in the ascendancy against Millwall. Bree came in from there and got 2 goals and 3 assists in 5 games while also fulfilling his defensive duties. Apter came back in for Hull and was a bit rubbish again so Bree was dropped back in. It's around then that it sounds like Apter gave his thoughts on not playing but at that point if you're Jones you'd be pretty pissed off given that Bree had earned his spot and offered more across his appearance than Apter had. I wonder if Apter had got his head down and worked harder he might have come back in when Bree hurt his groin and his form levelled out too but he might have burned his credit with Jones by then. The Saints game was the last straw for him as a starter on the right really and Jones doesn't even seem to want to use him as a sub anymore. We don't know enough about what Apter is like about the place but it sounds like he got upset at not playing quite early on and Jones is not one to accept that kind of attitude

We’ve had a left wing back for 45 minutes of 1 game. I don’t think it’s clear yet at all, you might be right but we will find out properly if he leaves this week or if he’s still not being selected once we have a fully fit LWB we can rely on

It's clear that even when we're losing and shape and balance is no longer something Jones is worried about he'd still rather not bring Apter on now. It made sense against Coventry where a point was a good result but I was a bit surprised he didn't bring him on against Sheff Utd where he wouldn't have really needed to worry so much about defensive duties, didn't turn to him against Blackburn, he didn't even have him in the squad against Derby and then despite us going to a 442 against Millwall and desperately needing some kind of spark he chose to bring on Godden for a central midfielder which made us even less able to get the ball forward. I hope he does use him, we need an alternative threat down the right, but I just get the feeling that he's done with him, a bit like he was with McIntyre, Ahadme, Edun and Taylor after a certain point.
  • I hope he stays and starts getting some game time soon, I enjoy watching him play.

He was our best player at the start of the season when we was playing well.

He came on against Middlesbrough and got us back into the game with his creativity

I agree. It would be kinder really to have him put down.

At least he can shrug at our relegation and justifiably claim it's not his fault

Well, he's unlikely to be going on loan to Bolton now, they've just signed CBT.

CBT plays on the left. Bolton’s best player plays on the right and has just been injured. They will want Apter to fill that gap
