    Ah proper gutted by this.

I've been lucky to meet him a few times when I've been in the 1882 Lounge at Spurs when numerous Legends walk in to chat to the punters.  Got a picture of us together somewhere.  Such a nice man, proper gentleman and an absolute giant, he towered above us.

Wasn't lucky enough to see him play live but blimey, I've watched endless video footage of him over the years.  Scored a belter of a goal in the 1972 Uefa Cup Final against Wolves which is etched on my memory.  Think he may have scored twice.

    RIP Big Chiv

Saw him play a few times in the 70s. RIP
  • That's sad.

When I was at school, a couple of my friends there were Tottenham supporters and I went a few times with them to see Spurs in the early 70s. Remember Martin Chivers well and thinking this guy is something special. Also remember the great partnership he had with Alan Gilzean.

    RIP

Prolific scorer for Southampton, Spurs and England. I saw him play for England at Wembley, wasn't the best day, Gunter Netzer and Uli Hoeness inspired West Germany to beat an aging England side 3-1, that afternoon Charlton lost 5-0 at Blackpool and were relegated back into division three for the first time since leaving the old Division three south in 1935. RIP Martin.

A fantastic old fashioned centre forward.  Saw an imperious display from him at Stamford Bridge when Spurs won 2-0 in about '71. 60k attendance, and he was fabulous all game and scored both goals. RIP

RIP. Was one if my favourite non Charlton players in the 70s. Funnily enough I ended up working with his daughter Melanie a few years ago.

I had the pleasure of watching the champions league final with him in 2023 on the Queen Mary. Very unassuming and a proper gentleman.

Just listened to John Pratt on 5live, saying he would be worth millions now, not just cos he was a two footed forward who scored a hat full of goals but also he had one of the best long throws going.

    RIP big Chivers

Great player back in the day, my Spurs mate met him at a hospitality do, and like a few have said here, found him to be a genuinely decent bloke.

    RIP Big fella.
