MATCH THREAD [+POST P 28]: Charlton Athletic v Chelsea: FA Cup Round 3: Sat 10th Jan 2025
Wembley trail starts here…🙌
Today is a welcome break from the Championship and all it's attached pressures, and a time for us to get involved in Round 3 of The FA Cup, not only that, but for a change it's a very tempting tie with Chelsea at The Valley in front of a sold out attendance, what sort of team we, and for that matter Chelsea send out will be interesting, and subject no doubt to some healthy "discussions" on the terraces.
In his pre-match press conference NJ said: "Burke and Miles will both be fine, "Matty's been back integrating with us this week, he trained properly on Thursday and he was fantastic. We've got to be careful with him. He won’t be able to start games for a few weeks yet, but it's having that impact and the cleverness he provides," Josh Edwards remains sidelined. Regarding Chelsea, the only one def not involved is Marc Cucurella who is suspended.
We've met on 70 occasions, winning 22, the Blues 31 and the remaining 17 encounters ending in draws, our last meeting came at The Valley in February 2007, when Chelsea were 1-0 winners.
COYR, we can do this tonight…
Team news…Nathan Jones has made four changes for the Addicks’ Emirates FA Cup third-round…
Will Mannion, Keenan Gough, Greg Docherty, Sonny Carey all come into the starting XI, with Joe Rankin-Costello and Luke Berry moving to the bench.
Gough, Lloyd Jones and Amari’i Bell start in a back three in front of Mannion, with James Bree and Tyreece Campbell, who will make his 150th appearance for the Addicks, expected to operate as wing-backs.
The returning Docherty and Carey join Conor Coventry in a three-man midfield, with Miles Leaburn partnering Charlie Kelman up top.
Rankin-Costello and Berry are joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Macaulay Gillesphey, Karoy Anderson, Harvey Knibbs, Rob Apter, Ibrahim Fullah and Tanto Olaofe.
Charlton: Mannion; Gough, Jones, Bell; Bree, Coventry, Docherty (c), Carey, Campbell; Leaburn, Kelman
Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Gillesphey, Anderson, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Knibbs, Apter, Fullah, Olaofe

He won't be starting games for a while ... but we can unleash the Sniffer Dog from the kennel.

Be surprised if they could find a pair of shorts large enough at such short noticeScoham said:

Must admit these are the games I really miss not being there in person.*
Hope all of you who are there have an evening never to forget.
* Mind you, sitting here in the warm with a glass of red after my good lady has cooked a superb lasagne is some consolation!

Rankin-Costello dropped for Docherty? Hmm.6

Apter and Knibbs STILL can’t get a start. Gotta feel for them3
-
Expected a better line up ngl3
-
Well our 11 is more or less as strong as it could be given injuries0
-
No idea about theirs2
-
League One midfield that. Garnacho will kill us. I like Buonanotte, looks a good player from what I’ve seen.2
-
We don't really have anyone else...curlywantstotango said:Expected a better line up ngl3 -
Gittens or Garnacho against TC is going to be rather interesting. The attacking options on their bench must be at least £200m+ worth.3
-
He should play for his defensive qualities. Just keep him off set pieces!panther10 said:Oh dear bree and docherty seriously nathan0 -
Sorry but bree been awfull latley and docherty got no pace wtf nathan6
